Jack Basford takes important points for the championship

The sixth round of Apex Cup season 2 was held on Friday the 6th of May on Aston Cadet Reversed with the MRT5.

Qualifying was close in front and around halfway during the session it was J.Holmes from ineX Racing that set the fastest time with a 0:53.60. For a moment it seemed it might have been enough for pole position, but with 10 minutes to go it was A.Bonilla from Lanzarote Racing Team that took the pole position with a time of 0:53.53. J.Basford from My3id Gaming took 2nd, only 0.05 slower than A.Bonilla. J.Holmes took 3rd while T.Iivonen from ineX Racing 2 took the fourth spot with N.Dakovic from My3id Gaming and Y.Laprevotte from Tiger Express Motorsports behind him.

The sprint race of 16 laps started surprisingly without any accidents on the first lap. J.Holmes had a fantastic start and was already ahead of J.Basford before the first turn. Unfortunatelly he wasn't able to hold this position, when J.Basford retook second position in lap 2 coming into turn one. At this moment the first three drivers weere putting in their laps while N.Dakovic and T.Iivonen were battling for the 4th position. With 2 laps to go it seemed that A.Bonilla would take his first win in Apex Cup, but out of nowhere he made a small mistake after the eau rouge section which was just enough for J.Basford to take the lead and the win. A.Bonilla finished second with J.Holmes just behind him. N.Dakovic and T.Iivonen were still in a big fight for the fourth place, in the end it was T.Iivonen who had a better exit out of the last corner and so took 4th, with N.Dakovic 0.06 behind him in 5th. Y.Laprevotte finished in 6th after a solid race without to much fights around him, K.Leu from Concept Racing managed to take 7th after serving a drive-through for missing the skin deadline. K.Dzelzgalvis from STO racing team was the last driver that took a point in 8th position. M.Saukkoriipi from Drunk Team 3 finished 10th which gave him the pole position in the main race.

At the start of the main race it was J.Basford that lost several positions due to a poor start. However, the next two laps he was able to gain 10 positions due to crashes and other mistakes by the other drivers, which put him in 3rd. J.Holmes made a costly mistake by pitting in the first lap, which is not allowed. Due to this he had to pit another time which may have costed him the win in the end. A.Bonilla was very strong again and took the first position from T.Iivonen in lap 3. He was able to build a gap of 7 seconds but timed-out in lap 30 which ruined his chances for a possible win. At this point it was N.Dakovic that took the lead with J.Holmes behind him and Y.Laprevotte in 3rd. J.Basford who already made his mandatory pit-stop in lap 26 was driving in 4th, and took the lead while the others still had to make their pit-stops. In the end it was J.Basford that took another win, with J.Holmes finishing in 2nd after contact with N.Dakovic in the last lap, which made him lose several positions. Y.Laprevotte took a nice 3rd place with N.Dakovic and T.Iivonen behind him in 4th and 5th. K.Leu finished 6th, while K.Dzelzgalvis, J.Dohnalík and A.Bonilla were the last three drivers that finished in the points.

J.Basford extended his championship lead over J.Holmes who is now in second. Unfortunately R.v.Buren was not able to race and so lost critical points which put him back in 3rd, three points ahead of K.Leu. My3id Gaming are still leading in the team championship with ineX Racing and ineX Racing 2 behind them.
