and why always, when someone starts to talk about young drivers + powerful cars, UK boys always are first who starts to crying about that, because its wrong, etc etc? its your problem that you can only afford to insure a 1.1l fwd crapbox, so stop brainwash other peoples who lives in countries with normal insurance prices.

Here, in Latvia, you can get your Learners license from 16. You don't need to know any road rules, etc etc, just go to Road Traffic Safety Direction and take that license. On your car need to be a sticker, which looks like triangle with ''M'' letter in it (M is the first letter or ''Mācību'' which means Learner, in latvian language). And you can drive only with someone which have got license already 2 or 3 years (don't remember). You can drive as much you want, carry as much passengers as you want, drive in night, etc. And.. for all things you do, responsible is that who watches you (as I said he/she which got license already 2 or 3 years), for example, if you are speeding, and cops stop you, you don't get fine - that who watches your driving got it, because, he is responsible for all your actions.

So, when you are about 17,5 years old, it's time for driving school (because all that process is about 2 - 3 months long, some guys can do all driving school thing in 1 month). There you are learning some theory and driving. Actually, you can not to go to theory lessons, because in theory test which you pass, are 30 easy questions and it's possible to make 3 mistakes. About driving lessons - our Road Traffic Safety Direction has prescribed that you need 14 hours of driving before you can go to driving test. But.. if your driving instructor see's that you are good driver, he can drive with you only 5 or 10 hours, and write in driving school passport that you drove 14 hours.
Driving test starts with a 5 minutes long test drive, then we go and do two Special manouvres (computer choose them before your test). For example, I got parallelpark and starting to drive on elevated road. If you do these manouvres correct, it's time to driving on streets. Maximal driving time is 1 hour. I drove about 15 - 20 minutes, and about half of that time was sitting in traffic-jam.
So, and if you passed both tests, you can go and take out your license. There are no restrictions anymore. For example, about 8 years ago, all who got they license, first year can only drive not faster than 80 km/h, etc.

Quote from S14 DRIFT : In a car the size/weight of a 3 series, a 320i would probably be the best all rounder. The 316i is breathless and the 318i is just acceptable.

Actually, the 320 is fail in 3-series e36. It have +/- same petrol consumption as 323/25/28 have and it accelerates slower. In my opinion, go for a 318is, if you can find it.

Quote from Hoshimodo :Ok Shadowww, a picture of XFG's in shape of a swastika is not disgusting for you?

A little off-topic... But what is so disgusting? About 80% of people thinks that swastika is only connected with nazi, Hitler, etc. This symbol is much older than 20. century. Here, in Latvia it's called a firecross or thunder-cross and it's not connected with something that most peoples think. In our history, this symbol appear about in 3. - 4. century, and at that time it symbolized happiness, energy, fire and something like that.

Here is a link about that http://www.liis.lv/majtur/darb ... fija/ornamenti/ugunsk.htm
Here I loaded that text in google translate, and you can read it in english (a bit poor translation) http://img.lejup.lv/images/1236006815.JPG

In some of these posts I see envy, nothing more. Why he can't spend hes parents money where he wants?
I know some guys, who spend about £150 and more of they parents money (each weekend), just in clubs for overpriced alcohol, etc.
I bet, if some of you see's a ~18 years old person driving with, umm.. for example, Porsche Cayenne or BMW X5, then you immediately think: ''yes, he doesnt earn that car by himself, he is a spoilt child who asked his parents to buy him that car, and the best and only way is earn all things by myself (even in age 16 - 18), blablaablablaaa.... and better is to buy a nissan micra for my own money than got a X5 from my parents... blaablaaabaa...''

Yes, I'm 17. So, if I'm under 18, it immediately means that I can't drive?
Or that, young peoples can't understand risk factor, because they think, if they crashes all will be right?
Then, there appears a question: which is better driver, who can faster find a solve in dangerous situation on road?
1. 17 years old, who 2 or 3 years was driving on abandoned gravel, asphalt (snow and ice in winter) roads with old, rusty RWD's and trying to bridle that old junk on these roads. Every week driving with his parents cars, etc. But don't have license.
2. And... guy, who first time in drivers seat sits at first driving lesson in driving school, then, after 3 months have passed his test and got license.
So, which of them got better chances not-to-crash in extremal situation on road? Number two, only because that he got license and he is older?

Quote from jibber :I'm not squidhead, but i'm going to reply nevertheless...

In regard of what you have written in your last post/paragraph... you are basically trying to find and excuse for driving too fast?

*Police officer stops you*

Officer: "You've been driving above the speed limit sir, what do you have to say about that?"

You: "Well, i have to, because there are people who would try to overtake me otherwise, which is not safe, and then there are also the drunk drivers... i'm just trying to keep things safe, that's why i'm speeding, officer!"

I'm sure he'll appreciate your logic.

Main thing why I asked specially to Squidhead for reply, because he lives in same country as me, and driving culture here is bad, I just wanted to hear other Latvian opinion about that.
And, Jibber, I don't know what is in Switzerland, but here, if you are doing ~110km/h in 90 zone, and police stops you, theoretically best what they can do is write you a warning , because they have old speed-radars with +/-7km/h fault. And, if, from 20 cars on road, 17 are driving on ~110 in 90 zone, police will stop them all? No, because it is not worth.
And about drunk drivers, it's other story. I'm not talking about that my excuse of speeding can be that there can appear drunk drivers on the road, so I need to get farther from them ASAP. In this topic they was talking about that, car crashes with deadly results, is causen only by speeding/streetracing drivers, but imagine: driver who is going on ~160km/h (yes, reaction time is slower than if he would go on ~100km/h) and drunk driver who is going on ~160km/h (and his reaction is 100 times slower than, just speeding driver). If anywhere we can see a table where will be number of accidents with deadly results, caused by speeding drivers and drunk drivers, and if we compare them, I bet, you will see MAGIC things! ''OMG WTF, accidents with deadly results by drunk drivers is a lot more than just speeding drivers!!! How it can be? O_o''
Okay, I will left this discussion, tired of it.

Quote from squidhead : Furthermore you should know that even a ****hole like Latvia offers ability to go to the track and blow off some steam (333 and Bikernieki) for an affordable pay...

I know it.

Quote from squidhead : Which is enough to kill somebody to death
and at night the visibility is much much lower so chances are you can't see people who try to cross the road not expecting some idiot to blast at over 200 kph. And if you CAN see them, chances are it's too late

As I can see from that video, he is driving on highway, with high, solid walls at the higway's side. Who wants to climb up the wall and cross the 3 or 4 lines? Possibility that he hit other car in front of him at night is 1:100000. So, he can only kill himself and that friend. I bet, his friend was not forced to sit in the car when DHRammstein is going fast, it was his friends choice and that friend is responsible for that.

Quote from squidhead :1. If I download a song - the victim loses $1,00 or something like that (itunes)
2. If I run someone over at 120 mph - the victim loses any signs of vitality
pfft... not much of a difference, don't you think?

Okay, this was bad comparison, but some guys here thinks, if you doing anything not very right, you immediately are law-breaker.
Like: ''OMG, you downloaded that game, not bought in shop! You should be slapped''. ''OMG, you are speeding! You should be slapped''. ''OMG, you are riding with bicycle, but you dont have lights on it!''
I don't know, but, IMO, some of these guy here thinks it's the same, because in all of these examples you break the law.

Quote from squidhead :You should comment on that when you see death caused by reckless driving in person... or even worse - a death of a closest friend (like I did) or a relative.... when you see THAT - I'd like you to say "Big deal, he just went 200 kph for a few seconds"
It's not that I wish you to see that (oh no, I'm not THAT much of a bastard), I'd like you to imagine a situation like that.... (By that I mean, take a seat, and imagine somebody dear to you being broken in pieces by a streetracer's car). Think about it...

I have see that, my friends brother died in a car crash. It was his fault, and after that my friend said that he never wants to drive fast anymore, but after a year from that, he crashed his car too and was in hospital ~3 months. When he came out he said again old story, but now he is driving fast again. Some guys never learn... And I know lot of peoples like him.
IMHO, most car crashes, where fast driver hit other car, is because the driver are drunk. Okay, don't talk about USA, Squidhead, but, how you think - how much car crashes, in Latvia, with deadly results are causen by just fast driving peoples, and how much by drunk/under drugs peoples who can react 100 or more times slower than normal?
Maybe you unnoticed it, but try to drive in the speed limit. Whats happening? In most times, someone is overtaking you, but any overtake can make a danger situation. So, I dont know what is in USA, but here, if you are not driving at least 15+ km/h faster than speed limit, on road which got only one lane in each direction, it's not safe.
And, yes, drunk drivers should be slapped, these who is going when red light is on, and these who don't wearing seatbelts too (if, I, about 7 years ago havent wearing seatbelt, when my father crashed his car and it rolled over, maybe now I cannot write this text here...), but if you kick the gas pedal in the floor at good road with no traffic and you got good car with good tyres (not old, rusty BMW, which have relatively powerful engine, but bad brakes, bad suspension and worn out tyres), I don't see anything SO wrong it this...

I bet, these guys who write ''OMG, this is so bad, you can kill somebody, etc etc'' had never sit at normal car (normal car in my opinion is that which can reach 0-100km/h in not more than 7-8 seconds). What he did wrong? He drive at 120mp/h just few seconds, and as I see it was in night, when, I bet, traffic flow is sooooo small. OH YES, he break the law, it's SO illegal! You all really had never drive faster than allowed, never downloaded any single song, only because it's illegal?
I don't popularize illegal things on this forum, but some of these comments made me to smile.
