I upgraded to a similar config PC recently also.. and had similar problems at first (PC crashing all the time while in a race)
My specs: P4 3.2GHz, (4x) 512Mb DDR 533 A grade mem in dual channel mode, 160GB SATAII HHD, Intel M/B, Nvidia 6600GT 256MB, on board sound/ Nic, etc, etc
What i found fixed it was changing the default memory timings to be even more conservitive (ie the slowest settings for mem available) the problem has ceased.. but i've still got to get around to gradually bringing the memory timings back up to find where the system will run stable with the optimum settings.. thats time consuming though and will do it on a rainy day when bored as it is even with the slowest settings it plenty fast enough lol
Yeah great race as always.. and full of controversy as always which makes it a great specticale i guess good to see Scaife avoid such controversy for a change Im thinking there will be a fair bit of air play about the Murphy/Ambrose incident
We think some of the online events are full of incidents, boy oh boy Bathurst always has its share, I sometimes wonder at the wisdom of so many safty car stop and starts.. always seems to be an incident after a restart
Yeah and I would love to be trackside on year at BATHURST
P.s. imagine bathurst in lfs!
I know tomshardware site well have been visiting it for years :P that articale doesnt clearly state that they are testing dx9 3d graphic screens (such as an lfs window) stretched across several monitors.. infact in the Benchmark and Settings section of the article you link to it is just mentioning normal resolutions you would expect on a single monitor.
When i do a search at the nvidia site about this it says,
Question
Will NVIDIA SLI™ support surround gaming with 3 or more monitors?
Answer
NVIDIA SLI™ based products can only support a single display within SLI mode. Up to four displays are supported when SLI software mode is disabled.
From this info though im still not convinced that surround gaming can be achieved on three monitors (except the matrox Parhelia), on two yes but three or more its still unclear.. anyway I plan to write some emails to graphic card vendors in the next day or two so will see if i can get a response back from them
Are you sure sli gives extra monitor support, the reading of done on vendor sites suggests that if u have two dual head cards in sli mode u loose the dual head functionality
In what way do you use it when gaming? Does it support 3D acceleration? From their website it doesn't appear to.. so do you just use it for multitasking?
At work i used to work on 3 or 4 pc's at a time at home I have two pc's I use all the time and about 4 monitors with others lying around looking for a use Once you've tried a dual monitor setup you cant go back, it's like listening to mono radio
Thx for the heads-up Scawen
I've had three monitors for years, for other purposes other than gaming.. personally I cant understand there mentality in not supporting tripple head cards illepall we now have dual core cpu's which give four virtual cpu processes we have 64bit operating systems capable of many multiple tasks and they think we want to do all our multitasking on one or two monitors max! Jeez in my opinion the more monitors I can have the better So being able to use my extra monitors in a 3d game would be great (I dont at the moment) you have inspired me to write an email to the video card manufacturers..
Following that idea wouldn't it be fairer to collate all the finnish times from the different divisions and calculate each individuals standing from that?
I know there's possible abuses of that system, but whne you stop and think about it, maybe its not as stupid as it sounds... e.g. if a potenial div A racer qualifies slow on purpose to get a clearer run in a lower division for example.. it may aid him in the opening stages, but being an enduro he would soon be lapping traffic and having to repeatedly be dealing with slower traffic, so the initial advantage could quickly become a disadvantage
I apoligise for this happening to u and the others that were on my server at the time.. it appears the master server did have a temporary hickup that messed things up (many servers were affected).. but it seems it required the server admins to reset there servers also and i didnt realise this and went to bed :S then i went to work so theres been a long delay its sorted now though.. my apoligies again..
Happened to me too, master server must be having a problem. Im sure they will sort it out soon if its not done already... but alas its time for me to sleep anyway lol
[Sarcasm] I don't think you should be able to play LFS unless you have a three monitor surround vision setup with a 6 speaker surrond sound system all housed in a $35,000.00 state of the art motion simulator [/Sarcasm]
Seriously we dont need any more at the moment.. there arent enough regular drivers on lfs to find races supporting all the cars we've got at the moment, so more cars will only make the situation worse illepall perhaps when there are 5000 people online 24/7 then some will use other cars other than GTR or FO8 but until then..
Hi Cu-Ball Im on nightshift here in Aus at the moment so if I see you in your server I'll join as I probably am online around the same time as your evening at the moment ...
P.s. I had a blast yesterday doing a 40 lap race, and found that you dont have to be that familar with a track in a 40 lapper cause most drive a little more cautiously at the start so you can ease into it there was only 4 of us that started the race (with no mid race join) but I still found it much more enjoyable than many shorter races :P there's nothing like the feeling of pitting your wit against other human drivers in longer battles - fuel and tyre wear become much more important factors and even if you drop behind at time you have ample opportunity to fight your way back - whish there was more of these longer adhoc races about too :P
Seriously though it wouldnt be effective, even now windows cant tell the difference between a wheel and a gamepad so it would only be a matter of time before someone figured out a way to get a mouse to register as a wheel
He's on holiday and probably out of it at the time :P
Happens to us all LOL I overracted to some small thing yesterday too, some people making a racket at 6:30am next to our house and I went up to them and whent off :P regreted it later..
And LOL you probably wouldnt find Victor's response harsh if you took out the wtf :P .. its just an expression
LOL yes I go outdoors every now and again also :P
Have had it up for about 36 hrs so far and have only been able to be on it myself for about 3hrs on 2 occassions.. both times it was empty when i joined but within 5 - 10 minutes some others joined and we had some good times.. seems people are reluctent to join a server when theres only 1 other in there, but as soon as theres 2 or 3 everyone starts to join, anyway hopefully as more people notice its there it will be made use of..
