Should all of the 'road' cars have setups 'locked'?

This has been discussed before to some extent but with the current discussion around the limitation of setup options to the new VW I am curious as to see others view points on this subject (aside from the patch test forum).

So I put it to you, my fellow LFS'er, should all of the road based cars in LFS, have limited set ups similar to the new VW Scirrocco? i.e. What is actually adjustable on the car as it rolls off the factory floor.

Or should we leave it as is where we can adjust just about everything we could desire on all vehicles?

I, for one, would not be fussed either way, but I am definately leaning towards limited setups as they can be considered more 'realistic' IMHO.

I guess you would also have to consider are these just road cars, or modified versions of them? i.e. slipping in after market coil overs, etcetera at some sort of club based racing level.

Your thoughts?

I ran two instances of LFS, one as a mulitplayer host and one as the client (driving around).

I can't recall if there was any excessive fiddling about needed. I will confirm for you later but I'm at work atm.

Someone else might help out between now and then.

Singleplayer lap times are not 'uploaded' to LFSW.

You have to go online and do laps, or upload your hotlaps to get your times reflected in LFSW unfortunately mate.

*edit*

As a side note, I was recently offline for quite some time and had the same issue.

What I did was installed Lapper and set up my own server and played on that (offline naturally).

It's not the ideal set up, but it will give you PB's, split times etc whilst playing offline.

Worth a shot, IMO.

Could also be your tyres going 'cold' (depends on the length of the race)? I know we ran an enduro the other night on the FBM and we all had to pit at least once to get 'warm' tyres on again as our times were falling away.

Bottom line, how hard is it for a Dev to stick their head into General and give us a quick heads up about how things are going? It takes 2 minutes of 'production' time and everyone is happy, the forum's are back abuzz having generated new interest and the whingers (like me) are sated.

It would bring a good dose of happiness back into the forums to boot.

It's really not that much to ask.

Sometimes I wonder if half the people defending the dev's are doing so because they believe what they spout, or if they believe that by 'sticking up for' them they might be keeping the dev's happy = new content... just a thought (of my own).

I did a few laps in here the other day, its a new, slightly different system from others I've raced in and will be interesting to see where it heads from here and if any other servers pick it up.

Keep up the good work!

Quote from Glenn67 :This has at least in part to do with the majority of server operators in our area choosing to go down the path of private servers, which I grant you does keep out high ping users from wondering in but also makes it hard for newcomers to find their way into an Aussie LFS experience, thus over time contirbuting to a decline in local numbers.
This is an opinion I've held ever since getting LFS back in 2004 and why I've rarely join a passworded pickup racing server. You could also throw that back at the developers and say they have been too slow to setup local support but none the less it is a choice we have made for better or worse.

I have to say I was somewhat bemused when I finally stumbled across the many private Aussie servers.

Without knowing about them, I never saw them and probably missed out on a whole lot of racing. However I did find PRR and never looked back.

After I had bought S2 and logged on to find two servers with <300 ping, I almost pulled the pin right then and there.

I think Riders Motion used a keyboard for all his/her drifting?

I think he/she still frequents the boards..

OP - Might be worthwhile checking the Setups forum for some Keyboard drift setups as well. Get you on the right track! Have fun!

ProRacingRoom#1 is busy most nights, enduros on Sunday nights!
Come join us!

Not much you can do about the ping I'm afraid. I ping high 300's on CTRA servers, but always seem to get away without any horrendous lag.

Quote from Biohazard :whether scawen changes his way of working or not - it's irrelevant to me.
still, lfs somehow misses some motivation. lack of updates and content just are not enough to keep the consumers motivated and totally confident.

Very true.

If iRacing was free/cheaper, Scavier would be in a whole world of trouble.

I still love LFS.

Quote from boosterfire :lots 'o text.

I wont quote the whole thing, but this post sums up my view point exactly.

I think a lot (all?) of the constant threads about new content etc, could be stopped, if only we heard from the Dev's once in a while.

We paid our money, and I will be shelling out more come S3, but honestly, how hard is it to create a topic and let us know where we're all at?

Instead of locking threads about Scirocco's, Tracks and S3, post a new one and fill us mushrooms in.

PLEASE!

You might have to unlock/re-unlock your S2 again.

Sounds like you have just bought it, or updated.

Just bung in your password again and you'll be spinning the FO8 in no time!

Grip racing thanks very much. Drifting is good in it's own right.

However, I can do lap after lap chasing down a PB time, but when there's no-one to judge or score etc. drifting, I fail to see the point.

On top of that, drifting gets me no respect from my friends, and likely to get booted from most servers.

I flat shift most sprint races in the XFG/XRG and have no issues with clutch heat at all. I can't understand how/why people have these issues.
