FFS...not again!

Why not come up with a REALLY USEFUL idea...like how to implement full dynamic variable weather in a racing sim...but dont tell anybody about it until it is finished, 100% bug-free, and working...then give it to Scawen

Quote from ajp71 :We've always had pretty chunky threads for major releases so can't we just have one clearly labeled thread for each new game? This thread is just a confusing mess, deleting the posts would be just as effective. Personally I consider threads about games are far more useful to the community than masterpieces such as 'Draw a cat with your eyes closed!', 'hey guys neeed help with a good Team name' and 'do you think this can work for a self standing umbrella?'

CoD History....
D/L'd CoD2...not bad..but got fed up quickly
D/L'd CoD4.....So much single player enjoyment I BOUGHT it to play online as well!
CoD5...gonna buy it straight off..loved the Beta....who said that getting naughty versions costs the industry money?? I would NEVER have BOUGHT CoD4 or CoD5 if I hadn't played the "Extended Demo" version first..so in this case, it MADE them money!

OK...I know that this is a rather large bump, but it is preferable to starting a new thread.

I was listening to a book review on 5 Live yesterday, and the subject was a list of pet hates regarding the bastardization of the English Language.
This threw up a few gems that I just HAVE to share with you.

A letter from a parent explaining why her son wasn't at school:

Dear *******,
Johnny didnt come to school yesterday because he had DIRE REAR
(diarrhea)!!!

A child asked to spell the word "Hedgehog": EGOG

There were more, but have any amongst you heard of any more good ones?

No, but I didnt say:

Quote from ajp71 :Sorry? We clearly don't live in the same country then, in the UK our roads are generally very good. With the exception of bumpy side streets and country lanes most our roads, and all the main routes and high speed sections are kept smooth and are quickly repaired when they get damaged. The general state of repair of American highways is far worse, they're often rough and bumpy, not necessarily dangerously so but not terribly comfortable to drive on. Given the nature of the States there are a lot of long straight fast roads with very little traffic passing along them, it doesn't make sense to look after them like we do. What you also find in the States is they have a lot of unpaved public highway (it's nearly half of all their roads IIRC) and even just being a bit inquisitive and turning off the beaten track on holiday you'll soon find that the dirt roads are the only way to get to a lot of places. Have you even been to the States and ventured outside of Disneyland?

If you think we've got bad roads, then look at Australia, nothing wrong with their roads, which are mostly unpaved and until very recently the major highway across the country was to. If you want to see really bad roads in the developed world then look at somewhere like Malta, the roads are simply appalling like you wouldn't believe, we found a paved road. Marked on the map as a main road connecting the North and South that was literally so broken that it was impassable in a standard car.

Been on the M25 recently? Or do you class that as a side street? the section between jct 9 and 10 (both ways) is abysmal! And between 15 and 12 (anti-clockwise) is like a bloody roller coaster, even though that bit is less than 2 years old!

ROFL..Just completed the easiest quest in the history of quests!!! See below for spoiler!

In the Moira Book quest, chapter 2, she asks you to get injured, preferably critically...just go out the door and jump over the railing...you will smash your leg, thus meeting the criteria...just go back up to the store and collect the XP rewards! For getting irradiated, just stand next to teh bomb for 5 minutes!

As soon as I started reading this, my first though was "Lerts is at it again!"

Forget the post rating system..we should have a new system to rate threads for "Lerts-ness"

Do /not/ go near DC when you're a low level/don't have a few allies around

Hmm, does the BB gun you pick up at the start of the game....serve any actual PURPOSE? It doesn't seem to kill the Vault guards, as opposed to the pistol that rips through 'em

Allies?? You getz ALLIES??? wow, sounds good!
Just made it as far as the town where you have to deliver the letter.... and discovered the rapid transport system...zapping from one place to another as long as you have already been there... Certainly saves all the trolling through wastelands and getting blasted before you get to wherever you need to go!

BB Gun? Sold mine as soon as I got the chance...but I dont know if there is a Schematic later in the game that might let you upgrade it to a mega-hyper kill weapon. Knowing my luck there prolly is!

Off for another few hours playing...got to go check out a minefield for the tart in the shop

Quote from DieKolkrabe :Bladey, does it remind you of a Tarantino film?

Hehe, I love the VATS, it makes the game, I love lining somebody up, and blowing 'em apart

Yep...very much Tarantino-ish!

Just got pwned by a Super Mutant with a rocket launcher...In glorious Slo-Mo I saw my leg go one way, my arm go another way, and my torso going in yet a third direction...lots of lovely ketchup as well!

WooHOoo!!! The VATS system is TEH K00L!!!!
Wanted to disable somebody without killing them..and used the VATS to specifically target the legs....
Pressed the 'go for it' key after lining up my options...and then the slo-mo footage of me blowing this guys legs apart was brilliant!!!
Ultra gore.../me loves it!!!!!

(Unfortunately the guy died anyway...must have died of shock caused by seeing his leg fly off as he fell to the floor )

I really enjoyed Oblivion, and until this week had never played a Fallout game...but I am enjoying this so far!
Just about to restart the game from scratch..I was in a bit of a hurry first time around and didn't select the best skillz and stuff...a few hours gameplay has shown what was lacking, and rather than struggle later on, I think it is best to get my character buffed up sooner rather than later

o/t (slightly!)
Has anybody else got the Call of Duty 5 Beta? Had a quick look and the maps are AWESOME! Only three maps, but they cane the arse off the last CoD maps!
Also, seems like they got the WW2 settings a bit better as far as firepower/weapons are concerned...some good, some not so good...but it IS only a beta after all!

Quote from S k i p p y : American truckers are among the hardest working truckers around. Averaging 600 - 700 miles a day. The old school guys ignore the rules and run even harder. 800 miles and 16 - 18 hour days are not uncommon over here. Some of my livestock hauling buddies regularly run 2 or 3 days straight.

Anybody can run that distance per day on American roads!
I would LOVE to see your American Trucker buddies get anywhere NEAR that figure driving in Europe...Heck, I will bet that they would find it IMPOSSIBLE to cover 250 miles of MOTORWAY (Freeway, to you!) in the legal time limit.. depending on which roads they were on! (Currently 9 hrs per day..may be increased to 10 hours 3 times per week)

EVERY WEEK in the UK we see mega carnage caused by "Hard Working" truckers who think they are superman and can drive 14 hours a day...a lot of them end up DEAD! (http://www.thisislocallondon.c ... =complain&cid=7286116)
This particular accident caused the majority of the area northwest of London to become totally gridlocked for most of the day..and I had to try and work through it..I was well happy, I can assure you!
I have been a professional driver (Trucks as well as buses) for over 20 years.. and I have a special name for those great people that can cover 1000 miles a day without sleep.

I call them "STUPID WANKERS!"

As for the OP's question...it has quite a lot to do with EU regulations concerning the maximum length of articulated vehicles... a shorter cab means that the semi-trailer can be longer, and that means more carrying capacity..which is what the job is all about!

Something went VERY wrong this afternoon...they actually showed a formula 1 race that was EXCITING!!! Makes a pleasant change from the boring processions that we have come to expect!
Highlight of the day was watching the Ferrari team celebrating...until somebody told them that Lewis had nicked it at the death...the looks on their faces was like: "WTF"!!!?!!!!

Classic!

Well done McLaren...a good victory!

Quote from Dajmin :He doesn't look all that impressed with it either

I'm pretty sure my version looks better than that though. Those textures look like they're missing something. Full shading maybe.

Maybe a bit of AA would help too...that table (and the plate!) looks awful!

Quote from Mackie The Staggie  Are you still driving busses, and if so tell me which route you do so I can avoid the mad one......(although if going by the bus drivers up here, they all seem slightly mad )

Put it this way...If you ever fly into Heathrow or Gatwick, and need to get to Oxford...check the TRAIN TIMES! (Because I might be driving the big blue beasty that go to Oxford)
