I never said you dident. And a flywheel does not increase the tq that an engine makes, but the tq that reaches the wheels. Now that the flywheel is lighter, the engine is not using as much power to spin it as before, thus more power reaches the wheels of your car, thus the car will accelerate faster.
Bob, you could, but im saying there really is no room to do that. You could also get a multi plate carbon clutch... but then thats dealing with the clutch and not flywheel.
You guys got wayy too technical. Tristin, you are right, but the clutch needs to use the flywheel to connect the engine and trans, which means we cannot make the flywheel smaller. Thus, the only way to reduce inertia is to reduce the weight. This greatly effects the car, if you drove my car with the stock flywheel and the fidanza, you would see what I mean. Because there is less inertia in the drivetrain, more power makes it to the wheels, which means the car accelerates faster. The only reason you would want a heavy flywheel is in drag raceing when you have huge sticky tires that are very hard to break free off the line. Thus you need the inertia of a heavy flywheel. So, bacially, a light flywheel = a faster car. Plus, it makes shifts quicker because the revs drop faster when you depress the clutch.
I just thought of this.. it would be cool if we could change the weight of the flywheel. heavy for drag raceing, light for circut, etc. I just put a light flywheel on my miata, and its awesome how much of an affect it made. Of course there would have to be a limit, and a really light one would require more clutch slipping to get it started, etc. So, what do you think?
acually, the mk3 (newest) vertion handles just as good as the others. total konfusion, then why is it that spec miata is one of the largest raceing class's here in the usa? Why is it that they do very good on the track and in autox? A miata will out handle a mr2, the only cars that come close to it are the s2000, mini, and the lotuses. All of which cost more. So, total kon, go drive a miata, and i know that your opinion will change
Then again, some people are just ignorant, and im not trying to change anyones opinion, im just saying facts. You know how the saying goes, opinions are like asses, everyone has one =)
Maybe you just have alittle bit of napoleon complex? =D
To alot, it is considered the perfect drivers car for under $10k. It may not be fast in a straight line, but handles better than most cars out there. Its also easy to work on, and its a convertable . In autox or a very tight track it will beat most cars costing many times more then it.
To whoever thinks my car is girly: come visit me and ill take you for a spin on some back roads. I guarantee you wont think its girly after that =). Oh, that, and they own everything (other than minis..) at autox. If you have ever drivin one, then you wouldent think its girly, so dont be ignorant .
Oh, and almost all of them are stick shift, so I dont see how everyone thinks girls and hairdressers drive it? (im not saying all girls cant drive stick.. just alot)
And if I was to turbo my miata.. well.. I could beat alot of "manly" cars in a straight line..
Back to LFS, we could then have a spec miata class just like real life lol.
i know im dreaming here, but imange a editor where you could take say a I4 block, tweak the bore, flow of heads, exhust backpressure, cam lift/ duration, the whole cam profile, timeing, compression, stroke, a/f mixture, turbo, nitrous, intake manafold efficency, etc... etc... you could make engines moldled after real ones. you could have a mild "stock" motor or one with extreme cam timeing and the such. that would open up even more classes with in cars. is that even possible? i know there are engine dyno programs out there that you can edit that stuff and get a estimated HP/TQ graph. if you where able to tweak the cars too, you could have cars that handle and drive excatly like their real world ones. just needed to get that out!
im not sure if this has been brought up before, and if it was sorry. but id like to see some kind of editor where you can make hp/tq graphs of the cars, along with sprung/unsprung wt... etc. that way you could make cars that mimic real life ones. plus it would be fun to make up a whole hp/tq graph . of course changeing the type of motor would add (v8) or subtract (I4) weight. pllus different motors have different charteristics. what do you think?
btw this is my first post even tho id had the game since 04'.. i love it
