FBM - 45deg look left glitch

Hi Everyone,

I've had this for a while, and looking through the first couple pages in this forum, I haven't seen anything posted on this.

Using the 45 degree look left button in the FBM, I get a small strip of transparent car at the left edge of the screen. Dunno if anyone else gets this, or if it's just my computer. See attached pic.
great demo racing?? no way!! : proof inside

Hi Guys,

Just figured I'd say something positive about demo'ers for a change , and talk about a great racing night I just had on FA(fast americans) demo server. BL1, fbmw.

Top 6-7ish were all mid-low 1:13's, a ton of respect and great driving. I haven't seen driving like this since watching the demo-only s2 competition. Replay attached below... and unfortunately, me representing s2 got owned by the competition :P

Quote from Joker1 :I Think that lfs should bring back XR GT Turbo back into lfs demo because most ppl prefer to use it more than the original XR GT. There is another reason that they should put it back on there because with out the Turbo on demo most ppl stop playing becasue of the big change. Thats what i had on my mind.

I think that you should buy the game if you want to play with the XRT because the most S2'ers prefers you support the dev's work instead of leeching the teaser they've released for you to test the game. There is another reason that you should buy the game, because with S2, you can actually use the xrt, and thus there is no big change. That's what I had on my mind

Quote from tristancliffe :Not that many people have ever used their heels in the process, unless the pedals are very poorly spaced or they have tiny feet. Most people use each side of the ball of their foot to brake and blip - not only is this easier, it allows more consistent braking, more accurate blipping, and doesn't require a 6 month intensive course of yoga.

However, the heel can be used (and is by the occasional driving legend), but more often than not with a floor hinged throttle.

I remember reading somewhere that heel-toe was coined when most cars still had the thottle pedal in the middle and the brake pedal on the right. Thus, you really did in-fact use heel-toe with the toe on the brakes and heel to blip the throttle. Was wondering if anyone could confirm this info? Forgot where I read it so can't cite anything.

One of the best GP threads I've read in a long time. Been thoroughly entertained through the first half of my work day. Please keep up the good work guys

On a slightly more related note, Honda was not the only team to utilize the extreme wets. They were, however, the only team at the front to do so. Here's a full breakdown.

Quote from rcpilot :On the subject of finding sponsorships, our f/sae team (think mrt5) was able to wrangle up $20k in sponsorship on top of the $10k from the school, and our car would basically never be getting any media exposure. So it's not really unheard of to be able to scrape money from businesses. (A lot of you are forgetting multiple sponsor sources it seems.)

I agree that $200k would be a fair bit harder, but then you actually have something tangible to offer the sponsors. :P

To be honest, getting sponsorship for an FSAE team is extremely different from getting sponsorship for your personal racing ventures. The advertising value for FSAE comes from the fact that it supports education, thus making it very tempting for businesses.

On a side note, what school are you with? I'm from the UC Berkeley FSAE team and am very curious how you managed to get 10k from your school :P

Quote from Migz :What the **** dyu think your saying?

I've payed for my lfs copy thank you very ****ing much. I should'nt have my opinion discounted just becuase im 14. Arsehole !!!

And alot of you are saying that there isnt ever many people who like ricing, but urm if there wasnt why do we get so many new topics being made? Surely its not just one person making them over and over.

Edit: Sorry about that, but i just got extremely annoyed at the fact you think my opinion shouldnt be heard just because im 14.....
Some of the worlds best point of views come from kids/teenagers so stfu :P lol
And what you said was pretty much discrimination, theres nothing different betwen that and saying " Colour : Black
Nuff said,"
(No offense to any coloured people)
You should be ashamed

Second Edit: I like the fact that when someone brings up a point and somebody else just cant find a way to beat it they always go to their profile and see if they can pick anything out of there to win with.

I really hope this isn't indicative of the intelligence level of this next generation... scares me... scares me a lot... :scared:

Quote from Migz :Its because most people are faggots and follow the crowd by saying all visual tuning = rice. and that anybody who likes this in the slightest = ricer boy lol.

Now i like both lfs and nfs.

Lfs because it PAWNS and is 733T , well that and the physics rule and its as close as im ever going to get to driving a real car for now.

But then i like nfs because it allows for you to personalize your car, it makes me feel like its more unique and my own sorta thing.
Plus where else can you hit a button and go ZOOOM straight to 50000000 million mph and take out another car :P

But honestly i think sometime in the future Ea games are going to rethink nfs and make it with realistic physics, perhaps even physics to equal or surpass lfs (doubt it though) But then nfs will have both physics and tuning. Meaning it will be bringing in a huge ammount of people who are looking for each one.

Then because of that and the fact nfs is more commonly known lfs may begin to start losing sales.

Btw alot of you think that there are very little ammount of people who like visual tuning and that because of this they PHAIL.
But thats not true, they're are ALOT of people in the world who want tuning, half of them would be ricey boys, but the other half just want to make theyre car lighter or faster. So no neons, or 50" rims or a spoiler that makes the car look like a shopping trolley. Just some small noticable modifications that makes the car better, while also looking kinda nice.

Edit: before people say that you can skin your car, so thats a way to make your care more personal.
what if you cant skin? And dont want to use one thats been made before?

I've never been so disgusted by a post that I've responded, but this brings it over the edge. The diction and phrasing used here is a prime example exactly what why many don't want to associate LFS with a feature that NFS is based on.

Quote from tisy0 :Its people like you..
All I'm saying is if people... Usually Noobs ask for "Bodykits" etc... Why the hell do most people say: Go back to NFS..
All their asking for is a bodykit damnit..
Fair enough you cant really make bodykits but why doesn't everybody just say :: There are no bodykits on this game..

They say that because the NFS series has based it's marketing strategy upon being able to "personalize" your car. Since that usually involves some severe ricing with ridiculous body kits and spoilers, it's very logical that sort of request in LFS immediately brings NFS to mind. When NFS comes to mind, crap physics and punk kids who have no idea how to drive come to mind. Thus, the annoyance/flaming appears. Furthermore, due to the nature of LFS, i doubt this attitude towards "tuning" will ever change, which isn't a bad thing

Quote from keiran :http://www.karting1.co.uk/braking-karting.htm - That sort of driving you get away with in a powerful 2 stroke but try it in a 4 stroke rental kart that weighs 200+kgs it just doesn't work.

Throwing the kart into the corner will not really keep your revs up, all your going to do is cause the engine to bog down and thus the revs will drop. If your nice and smooth the engine doesn't have to work so hard thus naturally the revs don't drop drop as much.

Most hire karts will be using the Honda GX--- engines which just don't have the power to be thrown about, especially when the kart weighs 200+kgs.

Appreciate the response Ironically I was just reading up at that site and somewhat realized for myself oh, this theory doesn't exactly apply to these small rental kart places. Thanks for the info, I'm actually heading to a kart center later tonight (50% off this week ) so i'll see if I can test out these different trains of though

Quote from keiran :I work in an indoor kart track where our `best` karts are 270cc sodi karts. In any of our karts (few different chassis etc) the quickest laps are always done by being smooth and keeping the engine revs up. At the moment after only 30laps on our current track I'm a tenth off the lap record, set by someone who has done 100s of laps. He is a regular and noticed how I setup the kart into the corners, asked me some Qs and now after a few visits is used to the way I drive our circuit and on my pace.

My advice to any drivers looking for a quick time is to keep braking to a minimum as the karts aren't going that fast so the front tyres usually scrub off enough speed to make the apex. Keep the kart controlled, no point sliding a puny little 4 stroke that weighs the best part of 200+kgs as it will not accelerate quick enough. Keep your steering to minimum, the straighter the kart the less work the engine has to do.

From my experience of marshaling the biggest time killer is people stomping the brakes. They may gain a very small margin in hairpins by going in quicker and still hitting the apex, but by the time the engine winds up again they've lost so much time.

I'm quite curious as to what you meant by stomping the brakes. My interpretation is that you are saying braking, turning in, then accelerating loses too many revs? Should it be more, lightly brake and just turn in to scrub off speed?

And sorry to keep asking this question, but you and someone else have said to keep it smooth to keep engine revs up. Rdcranno however supported my initial impression that you were supposed to throw the kart into the corner to keep the revs up. Again, I pose the question, which is correct? (Or is a case of, there is no one correct answer and I should travel my own spiritual journey to find my own truth )

Quote from jaws99 :Be very smooth, don't slide at all. I imagine you'll be using slow 4-strokes so keeping your momentum and the engine revs high is crucial

Also, I would adivse you to wear a thick jumper as it bloody hurts if you get hit and you don't ahve the luxury of a rib protector, the amount of times i've had massive bruises on my back is ridiculous.

Hrm.. this is kinda counter to what I've learned through a kart class I sat in on. Aren't you supposed to to throw the kart into the corner (slide it in) to get the nose pointing to the exit faster? This lets you just stomp on the gas and keeps revs up. Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

I had your exact same problem when I had the DFP. The forcefeed back was very minimal over terrain, but was halfway decent in the corners. Ever since switching over to the G25, I've noticed an absolute world of difference (using the settings from the wiki). Response is much faster and more accurate so yes, I believe it's probably just a hardware issue

Quote from Mikkel Petersen :You seem like a quite sad person right now Jakg. I don't understand your attitude and your mindset. I think it's great that people like him have that opportunity, stop ruining it with your "you didn't buy it yourself"-shit.

This doesn't make much sense, might get some sleep.

While yes, it's great this kid has this type of opportunity, however, I believe what Jakg (and myself) see is a significant lack of respect towards his parents.

Quote :costing my parents a bit, but who cares

As this opportunity was created entirely his parents support, I (even as a university student and not a parent myself), take offense to the lack of respect. Lets see him come up with 750 pounds on his own, and wave it around like he doesn't care.

But, regardless, congrats on your opportunity and definitely have fun with everything.

Quote from pb32000 :Yer but pretty much every kid whos plays games wants to be a game designer when they're that age. Or a games tester, because they get to play games all day.

Pretty much none of them realise what's involved, and tbh I think it's pretty pointless saying 'I want to be X' in a computer based job when you're that age. Keep it general and many possibilities will be open to you. Maybe.

haha, I actually had that exact same goal going into high school as well. Just from personal experience, get into a good University and take some design classes first to see if it's for you. You might turn out to hate being a CAD-monkey.

Quote from Stigpt :blargh. I dont get the iPhone at all.
Why not spend the same money (and problably even less) on a PDA? more funcionality, waaaay more features...

My pda has all the iPhone has plus a decent working wireless (one you can *gasp* configure), GPS, word, excel, acrobat reader etc... I honestly dont get it. And I'v used one - its just a ridiculously overpriced piece of design...

Well, a lot of people are under the impression that the Iphone is an all-purpose business phone. Personally, I don't think it can even compare to the functionality of the Blackberry's, but you're very right, when you buy an Iphone, what you pay for is the UED (User experience design). I'm not an apple fanboy, but compared to blackberry's, this thing is pure smex.

Quote from thisnameistaken :The main issue with the iPhone isn't the cost of the unit, it's the cost of the functionality. I don't imagine the flat-rate £40/mo deals with no additional data charges will change much with a cheaper handset.

It is a great bit of kit though.

I have to say I totally agree with this. And it seems that an increase in the price of the data plan is inevitable, which essentially nullifies the decrease in initial purchase price. But as an engineer, I am damn impressed with the hardware upgrades.

Hey Guys,

I don't usually post too much, but figured for any techies out there, (well, techies probably know, but for those techie wannabes :P) this would be some awesome news. Steve Jobs just officially announced the new 3G Iphone, and to sum up the basics:

It will be available in the US and 21 other markets on July 11th. The 8gb model is $199, 16gb is $299. It's 3.6x faster than the old edge model and loading pages, and comes with GPS with live tracking. Hope the GPS manufacturers have something planned to compete
