Sometimes I wonder if this community actually realizes that LFS is developed by three people, and not a whole studio. The comparisons to the likes of rF2 and Assetto are so unfair it makes me genuinely feel bad for the LFS devs. Those games have entire studios behind them that are pretty much working on those games 24/7. LFS is an indie game developed by three people on their free time, and I think a lot of people fail to grasp that.
LFS isn't updated any quicker because it is humanly impossible for a three-person team to work on a game as extensively as an entire studio of 50+ people. It just doesn't work like that.
VOB mods and quality cannot exist in the same sentence, though perhaps with proper mod tools we could see some great mods getting made. And while Scawen and his folks do plan on releasing proper mod tools eventually, that's not going to happen in the near future, I'm afraid.
You're probably using a VERY old mod if that's the case. The drivers' names can be edited through Options > Game. Also, in Options > Misc, there is an option to have the AIs use the player's skin and car setup.
As for the AI themselves, yes, they are rather passive and don't overtake much. AI programming in LFS is rather minimal - All they know how to do is drive and follow the race line, overtake cars that are extremely slow, pit for fuel when needed, and avoid crashing into each other in the pits. Apart from that, they're basically mindless. They don't even respect flags. There's basically nothing you can do about it - LFS is online-focused, so the AI is not really a priority for the devs.
I highly believe so. However, demo racers could be locked to fixed time of day only, and require a license to access the full 24-hour day/night cycle. I'm not a demo user anymore so it's not really my problem, but still, don't get your hopes too high.
It's hard to believe that LFS is still not available on Steam. It definitely would make the game a lot more accessible. But the final decision is up to the devs, and who am I to question them, some random Brazilian LFS player? A cruiser no less, from a part of the playerbase that is heavily looked down upon by the community? Yeah. I wish LFS was on Steam, but if the devs don't want it to be on Steam, then there's not much we can do about it.
Maybe, one day, if we get proper car modding in LFS (as in, adding new cars, with their own performance values and everything), I'll actually use them. VOB mods are unreliable, buggy messes, especially the ones made to work online, and most of them are not very good to begin with. Not to mention they invalidate one of the greatest things about LFS: Custom Skins. I love custom skins too much to ruin them with a (most likely ugly) VOB mod.
Okay, here it is. Fair warning, it's based on the 2016 pre-season livery, and it's also the first skin I ever actually made, so it's inaccurate, low quality, and pretty damn ugly. But as you said, it's better than nothing.
It's already uploaded as well, so feel free to use it.
On that note, maybe make it so new setups are created based on a default setup (or [hard track]), rather than the last setup selected, unless you are the creator of that setup. That would be pretty much a foolproof way of blocking setup stealing.
Step 1: Enter SO1X.
Step 2: Make sure you're in follow view.
Step 3: Turn right out of pits, go all the way down the pit lane, then around to the back of the pits. Enter the closed off garage that can only be entered from the back.
Step 4: This happens:
The results depend on which car you use. The XFG seems to yield the best result.
While this screenshot was taken on Test Patch R9, I can confirm it happens on the official version as well.
I know that this is probably the game un-loading models that you can't see to save memory, but in chase view, you can still see them, but the game un-loads them anyway and... Well, glitchiness ensues.
Uh, guys, I don't think he's talking about LFS... As in, he said it's the first race in Rockingham in four years, yet the first LFS version with Rockingham available to the public isn't even two years old. Not only that, he seems to be complaining of crowd attendance - Which means he might be talking about a real-life race here, and everyone jumped to conclusions because "lol demo racer". If this is going to happen every time, might as well require a license to even post on these forums.
Sounds simple enough, but you seem to forget that some servers don't allow you to block messages (and actually kick you if you do it), so this would be quite useful. I, for one, would like to see this implemented.
