...easiest way is to paralell the gamepad buttons with a custom harnes. First I would look again and decide what peripheral is best to use, any USB input device will work could it not? ie. a USB num-pad could be used - IMO use the cheapest peripheal you can find as these usually are built in a crude manner and are easier to work with.

Whichever device you choose to donate to the project is up to you and the principals of how to make it work are the same. Available from any electronic stores are micro-switch's, two of these can be mounted to the padels, the G25 has it's padels mounted on a small hinge at the shaft of the wheel, when the padel is pressed the micro switch closes, that's simple and the only factor determining wheather or not you can replicate this setup relys on you ability to machine/make a sturdy padel and switch assembly.

Wiring is simple, all you'll need to do is connect each of the switches to Some new wire and back to the pcb of the device at whatever switch you want to, this way the device can be tucked away somewhere else.

My final suggestion is best, it will take much less time to assemble as the use of padels is not nessessary.

Touch sesitive sequential shifter! Instead of micro switches all you'll need is two small conductive metal plates to press with your thumb or finger. again available from any electronics stores are transistors, all you'll need to do is wire back to the pcb of the device as before but this time when you touch off the collector of the transistor the circuit will close.

...mums laptop is perfectley able to act as an ap for the touch(so long as she does not mind it being turned on all of the time...well til may or June that is).

Set up the usual power scheme on the notebook(do not standby on AC when lid is closed...just in case). I'm not on xp ATM but thinks it's like this to set up

go to properties of notebook wifi card and select adhoc networks only, then manage wireless networks for that card and create a new adhoc network in the preferred networks section. Go to the properties of Ethernet card and enable Internet connection sharing. You should then tell the wifi card to connect to the previously made adhoc network and whalla!

Any card USB,CF or internal will work.

Do not expect good range with adhoc, if possible use a wireless router instead...

...there is a lot of redundant PCI garbage being sold on the webs so check the docs and review s for vista/W7 driver support(sorry I know this is obvious but with pci cards it can be a pain).

Quote from dadge :put your hand over the cold exhaust hole (the one that's meant to be there). if there's an unwanted hole in the exhaust, the gases will escape from there showing you where the leak is.

An apple wedged on the end of the pipe will be the perfect home-sourced application here

...If he's lucky the hole will be along the straight and not at a joint where those DIY exhaust leak fixing thingimy's can be used(sourced from any half decent motor factors).

jakg - if the neighbors are staring awkwardly at you whilst in this rather odd DIY fault-finding process, tell them it's the new green energy fuel(but you can only use certain apples

Quote from Framaris :Sorry if I say it was an uneducated comment...

Of course Global warming and energy usage are definitely important issues, and I won't sidetrack the entire thread to debate this issue. But it's worth considering that the energy spent folding is going to be spent somewhere by someone - even if it's done by supercomputers in laboratories. The search for curing certain diseases and understanding the human body better is a very important one which is going to continue unabated, and by distributing the work it simply speeds it up.

It should also be considered that we waste an inordinate amount of physical and human resources - and hence add a lot more to global warming - in the continuing treatment of diseases which could otherwise be cured for good. Imagine how much less energy could be used in the future if we find cures or simple treatments for major long-term diseases like Cancers, Alzheimers, Parkinsons, AIDS and so forth. The amount of energy used to produce the medicines, machines and treatments for these diseases is huge, so folding could be a potential way to prevent even larger energy wastage in the future.

I know very little of F@H, could you give me an example of an achievement that F@H has achieved?

...looking at the reams of footage on the webs there is never anyone around that is using their freaking head to warn drivers of ice.

You'll see it time and time again and not just on ice a patrol car will enter the scene parked alongside or behind an incident, lights off waiting for it.

WTF? Should it not be police policy to lay multiple warning signals before the scene warning others...even throw down the ruddy reflective triangle from the boot

Although some footage is somewhat amusing, most of it could have been avoided.

In weather such as this the Gov. should have a seperate 'road safety authority' responsible for educating and warning road users through public awareness.

why not use the traffic signaling system that is already in place, using the traffic lights to warn of ice on the road ahead by altering the flashing signal of the junction lights...

G25 and Windows 7 FF problem

I have all settings exactly the same on Vista 32 bit and W7 64 bit and can't understand why this is happening.

On W7 the first ~15 degrees on the G25 feels really light with little or no feel from the tyres resulting in a lot of oversteering. So to compensate I rase the FF level which means some oversteering in the first 15 degree range and a LOT of understeering thereafter.

On vista same car/track/setup it feels right as I begin to turn the wheel every degree is giving me FF from the tyres...any clues guy's/gals?

Quote from dawesdust_12 :You can't run a VM on an iPhone due to lack of software and it'd be slow.. along with conflicting architectures.

A native app is possible, but I just don't know anything

...sorry, I did not make myself clear.

I was talking of running a VM on the PC and running the software inside the VM in-turn remote desktopping to the VM from my iPod. Just a basic quick fix untill the real goods arrive

...another option I suppose is to run a windows VM at a screen size of 480 X 320(is that possible?)with LFS Virtual Dashboard, I'm guessing that that size would not suit the software though...LFS Dashboard designed for 480 X 320 might work???
