First off.. Becky and everyone else defending SRT.. Thanks so much..I was out of town until today so I didn't have a chance to come by here.

Hollywood.. If you watched the show, in episode 2 we talk about what our mission is.. We never say "We want to report REAL names only" but come on man..

We're not reporting on the LFS league racing community to the LFS community.. We want to report on it to the world.. We are trying to legitimize sim racing as a true form of motorsports (which we say in one of the episodes) .Im sorry if I offend, but in my 15 years of sim racing, I have ALWAYS used my real name. Im proud of my name and heritage and I also want people to know when I beat them.. It's Darin Gangi..(when I beat them of course hehe)

I think you refered to a plimply faced teenager playing quake.. Well.. some of the handles here are quake / Battlefield like.. I admit when going out to kill people, Im not Darin Gangi.. I play as something else..

But this is racing man ! This is no game..

In regards to not using your material.. If you get us something for the next "This week in Sim Racing" with real names, I'll make sure it's in there !

Someone mentioned us covering STCC.. hehe.. I think becky does a fine job of it and we promote her show every opportunity we can and will continue to do so.. No need for us to report on Becky standings etc when you can watch her cool show.

Anyway.. Hope you now understand our mission.. The ONLY thing we discriminate on at SRT are the use of real names..

I also thought of an idea for the LFS leagues that use handles and that want us to report on them.. I think on your license plate you can have them use their names abbrievated like - D Gangi and doesn't that come up on the results ?? I think that would be a fair compromise.. or vice versa.. Have them use their real name and and use the handle on the license plate..

Exactly Spikey... There's not too many leagues out there we won't report on.. The ones that make it easy for us have the best chance of getting on the show.. Not saying we won't do research because we do.. But the ones that send in bios, replays, videos, screen shots, stories, etc will get air play in some way..

Quote from SpikeyMarcoD :That is the point mate. They cant look up all info on every league. We should provide them pretty much with ready to use features prefrably

I missed this post from you Becky.. Thanks for plugging it for us..

And yes.. GREAT point !! We want to report on some LFS leagues yet no one is getting us info.. We also look at sites to try and find good info and we just can't report on the "handles".

If a league could force drivers to put their real names in the license plate field, then we could report on it..

Or, if a league sends us video, pictures and standings with the drivers real names (or names that sound real ) we will put them on the show..

We'd also love to showcase a league on the big show.. Again a problem I've found is a lot of the links on this forum are either dead or out dated. Even ones that have banners..

The leagues that we're reporting on are sending us stuff now weekly.. Make it easy on us and you get showcased..

HELP!

Quote from Becky Rose :The latest 'This Week In Sim Racing' is out, it's a good show with a wee bit of LFS in there (in the guise of a CTRA press release) but some more of you LFS league organisers need to get on the ball and start promoting yourselves guys - the opportunity is right there for the taking .

Thanks Nobo ! I would love to do a live LFS broadcast.. Speaking of Daytona.. We have part 1 of 3 up to view.. Becky Rose joined us at about the 1.5 hour mark for an interview

http://www.simracingtonight.com/pages/section/12hr

Parts 2 and 3 are being processed by Google and will be up soon

Darin

Quote from Nobo :Tuned in for the start session of your Daytona coverage, even though i didnt knew at all which game it was or to which series it belong( i believe some rfactor league?) i enjoyed your commentations. You always got sth to talk about what is hard in endurance racing coverage, would be awesome to see some live commentations from you in lfs

To those of you with the compliments, thanks so much!

Yes it is American style cause like someone said, we're Americans..

It will always have that..But, you have to admit we're trying to be diverse.. Team Redline doesn't have any Americans (that I know of) which by the way doesn't matter cause they're the best no matter what nationality.

If someone else out there would like to contribute on an International level and submit a segment, we'd be all for it !!

To answer your question Becky on Daytona.. It was a 3 gig file so we're cutting it in segments and will have it up soon as well as the F1 79 series race we did at Nordshliefe. Trust me you did great..

Oh and..To the people that either complained or gave good critism, we read what you write and have actually used things to better the show..We're having a lot of fun doing this and want to be taken seriously at the same time.. Comments like some in this thread just help motivate us to take it to the next level. Hopefully you'll agree as more episodes air.

Becky you were incredible in the booth! It's kinda nerve racking one you step into that live environment. Thanks for the compliments as well.

Quote from Becky Rose :I thought it was a good show. Informative and entertaining. We need to get Shaun and Darin to smile at the camera (imagine it is naked guys) but you know this is better than my first broadcasts by a long way and these guys are still finding their feet, so it's only going to get even better.

-*-

I've started to find myself really looking forward to these shows. I tuned in for a lot of the SCCA broadcast too, although I couldn't seem to get enough bandwidth to watch it properly, and you were doing a good job there by finding things to talk about as we all know, endurance racing isn't usually spectator friendly but you gave it a real radio lemans feel.

I hope I didnt drag the quality down too much with my own brief appearance! lol. I have no idea what I even said when my mic was live, no idea at all.

Thanks for the comments Bob.. We'll take your suggestions into consideration.

Quote from Bob Smith :I watched most of the video content uploaded so far, looks promising. I take it you're all new to presenting? If so, you'll no doubt get into a better rythm, you need to remember not to rush, relax, and take moments to pause and breathe inbetween sentences, there seemed a few occasions where there were small pauses to the flow where there shouldn't have been, due to the 5 minute barrage of text before hand. It would make it easier to listen to as well. I'm probably picking up on this because it's the exact same problems I have when public speaking.

I felt there was a bit of repitition in the description of the shifter, if you can't think of any other words to describe it, repeating them doesn't give more of an idea of the product. Then how you were moving it around when you had it in your hands, seemed very fast, maybe that's due to the springs in the shifter, but it seemed a bit... amateurish. It would also have been niced if you talked about using it with a clutch pedal and commenting on working the two together, but mentioning the obvious limitations where there is no mechanical linkage between the shifter and clutch pedal.

I won't comment on the humour as American humour falls flat with me at the best of times. I've watched little in the way of American TV but it seemed quite stereotypical of the style (in some ways), if that's what you're aiming for then it's working.

Sorry if my post seems very critical, on the whole it is good and I do encourage you to get better, I'm just commenting on what stood out to me. Hopefully the constructive criticism will be useful.

Don't worry about the names.. We'll make sure the community and world looks at LFS as a true sim!

In all honesty though about this community, it is harder to report on to the real world..

Names like "Asslover" or "MexicanMan" don't go over as well as names like Dom Duhan or Greger Huttu..

We want to report on as many legitimate LFS leagues as possible.. If people could just alter the final standings to show the peoples real names and then send us that, we'll report em.. Like STCC.. They announce only realnames and it adds to the realism in my opinion..

hehe...I would never base a sim on it's ai..

Went out tonight and turned some laps with my SRT partner Shaun at a street course. We ran an open wheel car (fox ?) and the caterham..

Love the physics !! WoW !! I'd love to run this in a series environment sometime.

Also met some really cool helpful people that gave us sets and some tutorials !

Quote from Becky Rose :You need to get online to truly descover LFS Darin, get yourself out of single player mode before you write our sim off as having sucky AI!

More great info KartRacer! THanks !

I loaded up the demo and went through a bunch of the training stuff.. Took me a few to get my TSW set up.. I really want to check this out with Force Feedback.

Anyway.. I recall trying a very early version of LFS and had trouble setting up my wheel so I didn't get far.

Now that I have, I can see why you all feel these are the most realistic physics. The cars react like they should from what I can tell so far and Im just in the demo.

Off to do more testing..

Quote from KartRacer :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_for_Speed

1) We'd like to do a "How to get started in Live for Speed" segment. Information on the best way to start, etc..
Try the demo, get used to the physics. Purchase S2, get familiar with the cars and tracks. Join a server, watch the leaders drive (the net code is what sets LFS apart, online races look just like offline races, the cars move "correctly.") There isn't any funky bouncing around and floating. Comparing lap times with the replays that are downloadable on lfsworld.net is the best way to improve your driving. Every submitted time is available for download! Search the forums for information on driving, setups, skins, leagues and different textures and sounds, for setups search the forum or visit the inferno setup field website (tons of WR sets.)

2) Who is the best in the LFS community
-The dev's (they listen! consistently here on the forums)
-Becky Rose (race coverage and the CTRA servers)
-Servers; CTRA,Redline Racing(not to be confused with the other redline team)
-Drivers; there are TONS of fast guys, hot-lappers and league racers alike.
3) Tell us why LFS is the best or most realistic sim
The feel. From the amazing force feedback to the visual tire deformation LFS looks and feels more realistic than most sims with real cars and real tracks! The physics might not be perfect number-wise as of yet, but S2 hasn't even been finished yet!
Rallycross and drifting are possible by just changing settings, no mod's and inconsistent track addon's along with the lack of too many poorly done mod's make it easy to race online and it makes it more fun!

4) Point us to leagues, broadcasts, anything that may seem news worthy to the sim racing community.
http://www.lfsforum.net/forumdisplay.php?f=22
CTRA&STCC

5) Interviews with key people in your community
-The dev's
-Drivers who used to race other sim's but now enjoy LFS the most
-Top hotlappers (lfsworld.net)
- League winners
-Some guy online

You'd be great for the show ! There's actually 40+ teams with 2-5 drivers each.. So minimum of 80 drivers.. Probably closer to 100..

Actually.. We have bios on a lot of the drivers on our site, we have live timing and scoring so it's actually pretty easy to follow.. You're a natural so you could pick it up in a second !

It'd be great to have you as a guest for even one hour of the 12.. It's dual class LeMans Series style racing.

Quote from Becky Rose :Unfortunately the nature of the commitments i've already made do tend to leave me with a really long to do list at the best of times.

Thank you for the offer, I am extremely busy over these next few weeks and dont think I could take enough time out to research the drivers, especially as a race that long will have quite a few of them (60 odd?) to learn about.

What do you want a cranky old Fenlands bint like me for anyway...

Thanks Rooble for your post along with all the other great posts here and emails I've received since this thread started.. I can guarantee that you will see something Sim Racing Tonight on Live for Speed in Episode 2.

Other than my initial brush with the law over here , this community seems incredible.. I'm honestly considering picking up a license and testing these cars out..

The show reports on Nascar sims and I was involved in that community personally for many years because thats all there was.. Im a sim road racer and I must say that from what I've read in the past few days and have seen in the STCC shows, this is a hardcore sim racing community. If I hadn't gone the rFacotr route after running the Trans Am and GTP mods for NR2003, I'd proabably be right here in this community.

My passion is for Endurance racing online and I see that some 24 hour races are planned or have been run.. Besides wanting to report on it, Im interested in fielding a team.. I went to I believe the MoE and it looked a little dated..

Anyway.. sorry for the long winded post.. We hope you like what we have in store for episode 2 and beyond and that we accuately represent your community.. I know if we don't we'll hear about it..

Quote from Rooble :1.
Most of the replies are pretty much the same here so there isn't much I could add to it, other then I'm almost certain getting stuck into LFS is a whole lot easier then other sims. I haven't purchased a licence for rFactor but I've heard and read enough to make me not do so, seems the general deal with rFactor is the lack of pick up and play option - as well as all the content mismatch issues.

2.
We already have a star that's progressed into real racing purely because of LFS, his name is Norbi Kiss and is just as fast on a virtual track as he is on a real track - Google his name and I'm sure you'll find some more information on him. There are also plenty of top teams, most of which are currently competing in a league called BoTT (Battle of The Teams - http://www.lfsforum.net/forumdisplay.php?f=79) Although this will never ultimately decide who the best team is, you'll get a pretty good idea from the results.

3.
Each to their own for this one really, I'm sure if I started on rFactor before I found LFS Id be other there now. However driving fast isn't difficult in my opinion once you've understood the laws of physics, and with other sims I just found they didn't replicate those laws well and that made the sim too alien from the real life counterpart - which made it difficult to drive.

4.
LFS has loads of different leagues for all types of racing, It all depends on what you want to do and how serious you want to take it. We have huge leagues like the MoE (Masters of Endurance) which also has its own Live Stream and commentary (even on the 24hr events :tilt The OLFSL (Original LFS League) has been running for aeons, it also allows for pick up and play. ESCC Which all the top drivers from the top teams attend, League of the Americas, BoTT - List goes on and on.

5.
Someone with less then 1000 Miles.
Someone with more then 25,000 Miles.
Someone with more then 55,000 Miles.
Scawen.

With that you'll get a good mix of opinions and ideas and such from all types of players from 'newbie' to 'just settled' and to the 'old farts' who have been playing long before Scawen was born. Round it off with a technical insight from Scawen as well as any information on the ideas and plans for LFS.

After looking around here a bit STCC is high on our list to cover o doubt.. I love their shows ! Im listening to STCC7 right now and I happened upon one of their shows when we were coming up with our concept...

Some of the movies, servers and other cool things in this community would be great to report on.

The more the merrier

Quote from squidhead :serioulsy speaking,
I am at work at the moment, so posting links is kinda hard for me (not enough free time)
on 4)
Im sure you should include the info about the Becky Rose's STCC season and broadcasts of the races (exiting stuff, really)
there's many more good stuff, but that just pops into my head when you say "LFS racing leagues"

also it would be nice to tell about the CTRA servers...

and why not tell about the massive amount of movies on LFS done by the community? Show some of them (Don's Slow Motion vids for example, Yamakawa's works are brilliant too)

no one ever said it's spam. it was just moved to the off topic section , because it had nothing to do with lfs. off topic isnt always spam, you know?[/quote]
Tell us about Live For Speed !
DarinSRT

Dear LFS Community:

I posted a press release for our show Sim Racing Tonight approximately 12 hours ago and it was considered spam by a moderator here..

First thing I want to do is apologize if it seemed that way.

Representing SRT, I sent an email to the developers of Live for Speed and this was their reply..

"Hello Darin,
Thanks for your email. It is great to hear that you are providing this exciting service for the sim racing community!
It is difficult for us to just send you information about LFS. It would be easier if you were to perhaps send over some specific questions that we could answer for you?
Also, you may like to visit our forum
www.lfsforum.net and make a post there. You will find that our community members will be more than happy to give you some background info about LFS. And I expect they will be interested to hear about your show too!
I hope it continues to go well and please let me know if there are any specific questions you want answered.
Thanks"

I should have been more specific in my post to this community about the show and for that I apologize too. We want to cover LFS ! Thats the main reason we posted here.. This is a viable sim racing community that deserves recognition.

I know that the show may have looked like it only covered rFactor and Nascar 2003 but that is only because it is the community we are most familiar with here at SRT. We started there in Episode 1 and now want to report on Live For Speed, GTR2, Netkar Pro, Arca Racing and any other program that is considered a racing sim for future shows.

That being said.. If the LFS community would like to be mentioned on Sim Racing Tonight, please send us as much of the following:

1) We'd like to do a "How to get started in Live for Speed" segment. Information on the best way to start, etc..
2) Who is the best in the LFS community
3) Tell us why LFS is the best or most realistic sim
4) Point us to leagues, broadcasts, anything that may seem news worthy to the sim racing community.
5) Interviews with key people in your community

Please send to [email protected] or [email protected] .

Give us a chance to report on your community.. We hope you won't be disappointed.

Best Regards,
