Quote from herki :you should be able to adjust the camshafts, so you can produce backfire (or get more power), that would be quite cool... then a mis-firing system is needed - and a car which uses it... prefarebaly a small mid engined 4wd rallycar ....

(oops... quite OT :schwitz

Agree with Tristancliffe. To have that level of adjustability would for some time create such a gap between those who have the knowledge to exploit it and those who don't. There are plenty setup options to be getting on with now.
Anyway, adjusting cam timing is not that beneficial without going into other areas such as fuel and ignition mapping to compliment such changes, and I really don't see the devs bothering with such detail when there are the basic physics to finalise.

As for a 'misfire system', am guessing here but I presume you might be referring to the 'bang bang' system that was used on turbo rally cars use to keep the turbo spooled to reduce lag (fuel injected into turbo, hence bang bang!)

You want OLD? I remember watching black and white television.
Anyway, it ain't the age, it's the mileage.

Quote from farcar :Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding of rev limiters says that they will not prevent you from over revving on upshift, when the car is effectively in neutral briefly. The same as they'll have no effect on over revving on downshift.

To put my two bob in, I think that you should be heavily punished for flat shifting (or any over revving). 2 or three laps of it should render your car useless. It's more realistic. At least make realistic engine damage an option.

Agree here. A (real life) rev limiter will not prevent over revving on 'enthusiastic' downshifting. I notice on some replays that many bang down through the gears quickly to assist braking, resulting in rpms going through the roof. Presumably upshift/downshift techniques will need to change for many once the damage model is finalised or there will be many instances of blown engines.

How about if one could specify in the options that you are always willing to share your sets?
Then people wouldn't have to ask you all the time, but could directly go to the names list and get your set without disturbing your racing for example...

2) (has been suggested before I think)
Would it be possible to have an option on LFS world, where people could get setups directly from uploaded hotlaps if the 'uploader' agreed with it?

For number 2, as a newbie yes please. We would however need to respect the wishes of the uploader if he or she preferred to keep their setup to themselves. From what I have seen of this community so far I don't see that as being a problem either way.

Quote from Schooner :???

I think that Bob meant that it would be useful to be able to pull a setup from another track (via drop down list). Coming from GPL I am used to that, ie new track with characteristics you recognise from another layout so you pick one from another track that is close. For example, a circuit with long right hand turns, short gearing etc. Maybe another circuit is similar and taking a setup from that gives you something to work with. Once people start releasing their own user-build tracks things could get messy very quickly!
I certainly agree with the suggestion for setups in track folders and would in fact extend that to replays also (including by player). I am completely new to LFS, and in trying to learn the circuits my replay folder is a mess to me as I am still not familar with the track names (ie FE2 etc). A filter would help me to manage these.
Bob, as a total newcomer I must say that your 'roadgoing' setups are far better for me to learn the circuits/cars than the originals, and would vote for them to be the default setups in the final S2 release. I realise that this was in another thread but as my first post here am taking the opportunity to cover both in one hit (OK am lazy git). I thank you very much indeed for your work on these.
One last comment. I suck at GPL and so far suck just as hard at LFS, the fun factor however is the same. This is a wonderful sim however with tremendous possibilities.
