A G-tech is a device, when setup properly, can tell you your HP, 1/4 time, 0-60 time, etc etc. In the video you'll see mine sitting on the dash. With these things it's very important you get the weight right, basically if you set it up right, it will give accurate info. It's very nice if you don't want to go to the track each time you make a modification to the car.
But that's not what I got it for, I prefer to compete at the track, I like going on friday nights and eatin up the imports.
I have Z-rated Pirelli P Zero Nero tires, I don't excpect to ever get a blowout, I use them on every car I own.
As for others, this was only to test the G-tech, it's not like I'm out there every night doing this...
There is absolutely no way there'd be a pedestrian crossing the road where I was, in the middle of nowhere, it makes no sense, and I have brembo brakes, dunno that would help any, but with my custom lights I think I'd see them and be able to avoid them, it's not a caddilac, it's a Cobra, IT CAN TURN.
I spend all my time at the track, god forbid I drive well out of my way to test this G-tech I just bought. Too many haters here.
This car is actualy setup for the track, don't be so presumptuous. It has a racing suspension and brakes, and a little weight reduction, and unlike other mustangs, the 03/04 Cobra have an IRS, not a live axle. I've had it at pocono raceway, and plan to spend a lot of time there. This was the first time I'd driven it on the road like this, to test the G-tech..
Some of you are blowing this way out of proportion, I don't do this on a daily basis, and I drove 40 miles to a place I knew was safe. There is NO traffic and absolutely no pedestrians on the road there, it's illegal. Besides, my visibility is much better than you guys assume. And no, I don't street race, this is something I wanted to do when I got the G-tech, and my local airstrip was out of the question. This spot I choose to do this is entirely unknown by anyone.
The hills on each side are high as hell, and the north bound section is more than 100 meters away through thick woods. Trust me, it's very safe to go 0-121 and back down. To cruise at 120 for miles at a time, that's stupid, and I wouldnt do it. Whatever, if you wanna hate, hate, I took every precaution, and it was 3:30 am, and there's NEVER traffic there, and it's miles from where you might find peds around...
You guys act like I just drive down ****ing main st like this...
I did it extremly safely, who the hell is gonna cross a median that's over 100m wide with a 40 foot hill, 30 miles from town? I speed for about 13-16 seconds, that's it, in the middle of nowhere. You don't know anything about what I did, and you should watch your mouth, jealous pussy.
I got ripped for posting my car history before, but since everyone else did, I'll post mine.

Reason : Everyone esle posted, so..
It's the next best thing to running at a track. I removed the kenne bell blower, selling it to get the bigger one, so for now it's all stock.
My next run will be by myself, my passenger weighed 275lbs, plus I was easy outa first gear, I think I can pull a 12.6, and a 4.4 0-60. We'll see, I'll run it again very soon. Btw, G-tech is awesome, they're incredibly accurate, to within 1/10 of a second, but usualy even closer, anyways, here's my first run with my new car, my 03 Terminator Cobra-
The irony is, a number of people think it's a competition, even when it's not, and it's mostly not. So they feel a kind of satisfaction, but never realize the majority of gamers build systems capable of running only what they need, and not necessarily all games/apps, in their highest settings. I'm one of them, I could have built a much better system, but I decided to wait, and invest in my car, and now I have more options for building. Although I admit, if it didn't matter at all how much I spent, I'd probably re-build every year with the best hardware, but I don't think I'd get off knowing I had the best performance..lol.
The FXO seems to run a lot like my Saab, I'm gonna see how the mileage is. My Saab gets really good mileage when I don't beat it, but the moment I do, it drinks fuel more than my mustang.
Awesome, always nice to see a new member. You're in the right place, you'll find knowledge all over this forum, for just about anything you may need, related to LFS. As you begin playing online, you'll have questions, and this is the place to be. Enjoy!
I'm not sure how important improving the AI in LFS is exactly, but having the AI, in LFS, is very important. If they ever removed the AI, I wouldn't renew my license for the newest version. I'm sure I'm not alone in that I play offline a lot, on pro settings it can still be a challenge, and because the AI are kind of stupid, and make the mistakes, it makes the race more challenging. To survive a race with 19-20AI is good training, and if on something like SO, it can be a great way for ppl to train and learn how to race before going online. There's more to racing than scoring hot lap times, ya gotta be able to avoid accidents, pit strategies, so, yeah, offline AI is what makes this Sim the best, along with it's multiplayer racing.
Maybe someone here knows the technical reasons for the Intel chips being such good performers in LFS and SuperPi? I'd like to know, and I'd like to know, is it more the Intel doing very well, or the AMD doing badly, or a combination of both maybe..
I'm getting 28 seconds in SuperPi Athlon64 6400+BE stock speeds, with 667Mhz memory. I'm assuming 800Mhz memory will bring it under 25, and when running @ 3.5 should give me a decent score, I dunno. I start building my new PC soon, I guess I'd still like to know though, also it's been a long time....I hope AMD has something planned, soon, they need a new mainstream chip, and not 90nm!!! I'm using twice the power and making half the speed of a good intel chip, uhg.
Ford had a little trouble with their turbo diesels until recently, but their new twin turbo system is much better. More of a bi turbo setup I think, runs in stages, good for a very heavy truck.
But Ford has a past with turbo's tho, perhaps not overseas, or maybe so, I wouldn't know, but the Turbo Coupe Thunderbirds were great cars. Also the Turbo Mustangs, same engine, 2.3L Turbo, they pulled as good as the H.O. 5.0L Stangs and Birds, just add a big turbo kit, and a few supporting modds, and easy 400whp, which was a lot back in the 80's, early 90's.
True, this benchmark is pretty much stretching my CPU's legs, and memory bandwidth, that's about it. We're pretty much comparing CPU's rather than entire systems(CPU/GPU). Not many are posting, the majority of us should have 300-600fps. I'm running an Athlon64 6400+BE OC'd 3.2-3.5, still not a match for the high-end Intel chips, once I build my next system I'll post, my CPU will prevent me from doing very well...I mean it's a good CPU, especially considering the price, I just mean, one E8x00 or quad core and I'm smoked, and forget about a Qx heh..I'll be getting the 9550, can't wait till it's all done, I wonder what it can pull in LFS, with a single 9600GTOC... second will be down the road, to future proof it.
Well, at that time it was commonly referred to as a VR6, although it was really just called a VW Golf GTI, where GTI I guess referred to it being a sporty car. I love VW all around, but my favorite VR6 model was the MKIII, 12 valve.
Ford saved themselves by finally working out a good deal with it's union(s). It generally costs an american car company about $1500~ more than an import company to build your average car(This number from '06 model year), because of retiree's etc etc. GM and DaimlerChrysler are still circling the drain, which I don't mind(except for how it will affect the economy if they fail). Toyota I think is doing well though, they should be.
As for Saabs and the GM buyout, yeah I knew, I still like the new one's tho honestly, I really like Saab a lot, I've had several, I was gonna get a Viggen before I bought my '04 Cobra. But yeah, knew about that, but mine is a '95 so I guess I think of it as being a bit more pure, I dunno, regardless how much I dislike GM here in the states, I really like Saab. If GM keeps the relationship as it is, like what Ford does, I think Saab will be just fine.
As for the Cossy, admittedly I don't know much about them, not at all. They're very rare here, I've honestly seen only, ten maybe, and that was a long time ago, haven't seen anything since a car show in '99.
I thought it was a MKIII, but only because I assumed it was a third generation, but I wasn't too sure, escorts were around a long time(too long), and they'd change every other year, mostly because they were so bad. But, I looked it up, I know what's up with the car now, I'd love to have one, maybe down the road, I can't afford anything else for at least 4 years, but the Cobra has room for the cheaper goodies(Still needs aftermarket suspension and brakes, stuff like that) so that'll keep me busy, plus with the classes and all, I wanted to learn from a pro, it's been good, I've made good friends, and it's truly breath-taking, racing, love it!
HUGE Ford guy here, also love VAG. I love muscle cars and hatches alike. Right now my cars are very diverce, I think I have something to please everyone, but that wasn't the point, I realized, for the cost of 2 good new cars, I could have one of each of the cars I liked, just used, plus, it works out that two of my favorites are a '95 and a '97, so they were inexpensive, and I do virtually all the work that I can do for myself.
Anyways, I know a lot about Ford, and VAG, and I understand Fords modular designs, the two certainly don't share anything, except maybe industry knowledge, Ford really likes to reach out and learn what they can, they've had to become humble since the late 90's, when their cars were terrible, really the reason they saved face, and aren't facing chapter 11 like GM and Daimler-Chrysler. Ford has owned a number of Euro companies, most when they were doing well financially. I think they've invested the most into Jaquar, "making it one of the most reliable cars on the road, but they're not selling so hot" -This a qoute from Motor Trend, not my opinion, honestly if it's true I didn't know they were that reliable, although Ford did invest ten billion in ten years. Anyways, Ford is sharing platforms from one end of the spectrum to the other. I wouldn't be surprised to see Fords with Euro inspired power plants within ten years, they're already shaping up. Unlike GM, where they still believe a gigantic pushrod engine is the answer for everything...
So, yeah I LOVE VAG, most especially VW, I like the budget hatches(well, not very budget, but great), and Audi's more expensive sedans. My dubb is a '97, MKIII GTI VR6, it's a finished product, I can finally say, and the '95 Saab 2.0T is finished as well.
Anyways you may see Ford share more platforms/parts than any other make, it's getting more and more common place, even before all the buyouts they did it internally with Ford, Mercury and Lincoln. As of this year Ford owns Volvo, and part ownership in Mazda, & Aston Martin. Ford just sold Jaguar and Land Rover to Tata Motors in India in 3/08. It's crazy to think they invested ten billion in ten years into Jaguar, making it supposedly one of the best cars on the road, but they just wouldn't sell... Anyways it seems Ford takes advantage of these relationships and gains a lot of knowledge, they must because the quality in their cars has doubled in less than ten years, they were terrible not too long ago, although I was still a fan of Fords, I was well aware of what cars weren't any good(Ford Taurus, late 90's) The Mustang and the F150 are what saved them IMO. Eh, just felt like posting since the topic turned to Ford and VAG, love these two makes, hope to continue collecting, I'd love a Cossy, Cossworth Escort, the MKIII model I believe...not sure, the white one, it's 299HP, turbo 4 cyl, incredible suspension and brakes.. Man oh man, for it's time, it was a beast. As far as VAG, I'd like an Audi, turbo quattro sedan, mid 90's maybe. Don't get me wrong I like new cars, a LOT, but it's inexpensive and never boring collecting older ones for great prices, and just having a good time. Drove a friends brand new Ford Flex, I really like these things, different, unexpected, great quality and unusually good performance for such a vehicle.
Ahh come on, no need for that, I think the majority of the people following this thread feel the same way.. It's easier not to think about it, not to wait. Just race and let time pass, that's how I feel. I don't really want to contribute to the estimates, but I beleive it will be a gift, around Xmas, probably not 'on' Xmas, but around, but... I'll take the id software approach, "It'll be done when it's done".
First I'll tell the truth, then I'll make up something funny, or maybe dig up a funny memory of something I've done.
I'm a KB user, so usually I wipe my fingers on my pants or something, warm or not, they get a little moist, although I'm not a sweater, this may be common. I take a good look at my tire temps and wear, and clutch temp, while considering what lap I'm on, and figuring out when to push the car, when not to. I'll also have a look at my CPU/GPU temps sometimes, I often run other programs in the background, and some of my OC's are ridiculous so I gotta keep an eye on there. In the pits if I know I have major damage, and need all tires and fuel etc etc, I'll tab out and check any msg's from Aim, or have a look at whatever other program I have running(Decoding, defragging, whatever) It's also a good time to adjust the volume, I never use headphones with LFS, don't really like headphones period, makes music seem dull, unreal, doesn't hit me the way it should. Often I'll light up a smoke(I'm quiting tho, and seriously, it's terrible and expensive, but I rarely light up in the house, and only in the PC room, well ventilated with two dual window fans that run on high, always, only when I'm in the room of course.
Something funny... One time I did attempt to change my sons diaper during a pit stop, needless to say I wound up a lap down, but I think he comes first lol.
I can't think of anything else funny in this particular context, but I do have a funny tale to tell... And I'm very curious, if I'm the only LFS racer to have gotten road head, in the game!..real life plenty have, but in LFS, now, there's a challenge, try to keep pace in a race in that situation True story, heh... seriously I just hit Shift+P after not even a lap, it's just not possible to focus and race.
Although some of the 51 pages are false hopes and misconceptions, try looking at it from another perspective; The devs must feel really good about their decision to do this, look at the attention it's gotten, and consider the majority of people reading through this thread won't post, with so many views, it's safe to say the Devs made a great decision, and people are going to be very excited, and that should make them happy. It's hard work, and it's gotta feel nice to be appreciated, so in another perspective, this thread is a very good thing, and I highly doubt it bothers the Devs one bit. They're busy at work trying to accomplish what we all just can't stop thinking about. Says a lot about LFS, it's creators and it's users.
In a clean race, for example hotlapping, for whatever reason I've always been considerably faster, and more consistent on KB, no idea why... Maybe from years of NFS on keyboard, I dunno. If not for extreme oversteer and the inability to compensate quick enough, I think I could compete with above average racers. But I'm always depending on a little luck, I've gotta be incredibly careful, and it's tought me to drive a very particular way, I don't think I could ever use a wheel or pad properly after hundreds of hours mastering the keyboard. Honestly I find the KB easier in some situations, I can be really easy on tires, and incredibly consistent, just never very very fast.. It's all good though, I think I'll at least try one more time to use a wheel, and really give it effort and time, who knows, I have no problem in a real car, at pocono raceway, but in LFS, forget it, 2 seconds behind KB times, easy. And closest I ever got to a WR was behind by.. I think .8 seconds, on south city long with XFG.
Anyways I guess I come from the opposite end of the spectrum, but I just think everyone is different, you're using different muslces and nerves in your body, when using these different methods, and perhaps that has something to do with it, and why some people can be so good, with such an ackward input.
I know, but I assumed it would require a lot of CPU power to record plus render a game at the same time. Regardless I'll do it the proper way to get the better quality video.
