I actually had this happen when I installed a new processor, so it seems like... maybe, if the game detects a change in the system, it requires an unlock(I imagine this may be to prevent people from copying/burning and putting on a friends computer, basically stealing it). Is the battery on your motherboard good, like do you lose settings, time&date, anything like that? Or do you make any major changes to your system, on a regular basis? This is unlikely but could cause it.
I like that Capri! I had a 1983 Mercury Capri RS Turbo, loved it! It was my first car, got it back in '00, drove it until '05, gave it to a friend when I bought my Mustang, and I regret it!!! I miss that car so much, it was a great sleeper, nobody ever saw it comin.
Yours is a bit different, but better IMO, those are a far superior model. This last summer someone had one just likes yours with a Mach 460 engine, supercharged, at the race track, he was running high 9's in the quarter mile, he actually won first place that day, in race and in show!
Mine turned a 28.9s. It seems like people on lower end systems scored better... Also I noticed it's not multithreaded, only used one core. Anyways is this a bad score for an Athlon64 X2 6400+? Memory is 3GB DDR2 667mhz.
Edit: Also, if this is normal, and it looks that way after reading more posts in the thread, are the C2D chips this much quicker all around, or is it just this kind of processing they're good at?
Capping it will certainly help yes, unless you have a very high end PC and very few background tasks. Capping it leaves some overhead, so when the game, or a background task need a little extra cpu power, you don't get a spike of any kind.
Myself, I cap just about every game I play at 60, beyond that just doesn't seem necessary, plus I don't like using vsync so capping prevents tearing and any other abnormalities.
I find this VERY interesting.... About a month ago I installed GTR2, it ran like crap on Vista, so I uninstalled it, but afterward games were giving me problems. The first thing I do if I'm having trouble with more than one game is update directX, so I got the newest redist and installed it, then my system was perfect again.
There's something shady about that game...
I've been an AMD fan for a long time, and believe me, I know how much better the Intel chips are, I've even considered making the switch, but I'm not willing to pay the big money to switch over to an Intel based system.
Trust me, I know the 6400 gets smoked by Intel's counterpart, actually more than one, several of Intel's chips beat it, and considering the prices, I'll be the first to admit Intel is better, especially for gamers. My laptop is core 2 duo, and it outruns my 6400 no problem.
The point of my post is simple, the 6400+ is absolutely fantastic, for anyone on an AM2 system, it's the best buy, period. I should have been more clear, I was comparing it to other AMD products, not overall PC processors.
It is very likely my next system (at least two years from now) will be Intel based, but I love AMD, you know us Americans, always rooting for the underdog
I actually had a X800Pro, a very good card, I loved the X800 series cards, in their time they were untouchable, however they do not support shader model 3.0.
If you're interested you can better that card, the GeForce 7800GSOC is the best AGP solution I know of, used one for nearly a year before upgrading to PCI-E. It slaughtered my old X850XT which I think is quicker than any X1650 card.

Hmm, probably a big difference for me because I'm running it in a fairly low resolution, 1024x768, so the cpu runs away with it a little. After a few benchmarks, I'm seeing anywhere from 10-20% increase in performance over the 4400, great investment for anyone on an AM2 config.
I just finally installed the 6400+, my final upgrade for a very long time. Mostly I got it because of all the FPS I play, but also because I enjoy playing offline with a full field of AI. Man oh man, worth every penny, in fact it's much quicker than I even expected. Before I had the 4400+ installed, and with a full field the frame rate would drop into the 20's at times, now it never falls below the 50's, mostly sticks right at 62.5 where I have it capped. Perhaps it's a bit overkill, but for the price, it made sense to grab this one, it's the quickest they make, black edition, and came with a very nice heat sink and fan for only $189 US.
Anyone running an AM2 system, I highly recommend this processor!!!
P.S. Runs Crysis and Unreal 3 at impressive frame rates, for any other FPS fans out there.
EDIT: "owns" versus other AthlonX2 products, however obvious it may seem
The granny shifting is a term that's been around a lot longer than those stupid movies, it simply means to shift slowly. The movies made no sense, you don't have to double clutch in modern sports cars.
Anyways if you've ever raced in a straight line, then you understand how slowly I was shifting, that's all I meant by it.
At the time, my car had the stock shifter, which didn't have syncro blocks in it, so banging the gears hard could seriously reduce the life of the tranny. Now I have a good shifter, and I can nail each gear as hard as I like.
Wow, I really hope you guys realize how much I hate those corny movies! I guess it only came up because of the word choice, vin diesel used those words in the movie, so I guess I had that coming.
Check out what I just did, I was just messin around with the AI and I was distracted, at the last second I try to turn but it's too late, and how I wind up is pretty funny, I couldn't do it again if I tried!
Ehh.. I hated those movies, so terrible.
I love drag racing though, it's easy to get into, doesn't cost a fortune either. I try to make it out to the track every other weekend when the weather permits.
Recently I had similar questions about the game, and I've tested every aspect of the game and monitored my frame rates. It absolutely is the AI, not the cars themselves being on the screen, that's killing the frame rate. Given your specs you shouldn't have trouble with a small field of AI cars, the only thing I can think of is the loss of power in bootcamp. It takes a lot of cpu power to run AI, and you're gonna lose some of that power running windows and windows apps on a Mac.
Your system is similar in power to mine, and I can run with a field of 20 AI cars with the graphics nearly maxed out. If you were on a PC you'd be good.
Anyways I guess what's important is the game should run great for you online.
