Me is likeing this program very mucho...

Maybe a suggestion, It would be nice if you could get a ghost car of a replay. Like download the WR, and make a ghost car for that run, so you could compare that run with your own.

Quote from detail :In that thread the guy sits quite far from the screen, like 70-80 cm.

To have a proper perception of speed in a game, the FOV of the screen in your eyes must be the same as the in-game FOV. We have the in-game FOV bigger than the angle at which we see our screens, that's the sourse of the problem.

If we calculate the real screen's FOV and set this value to the in-game FOV, it would look like a narrow window. It would look a bit like the image that we see in a window of an aircraft sitting in the middle or on the other side. I have 17" and my eyes are in 1 meter from the screen, thus I'd need to set in-game FOV to 18.18°! (=2*arctg0.16)

To have in-game FOV 90° and percept it properly, we'd need to place the monitor in 1/2 of it's width from our eyes . For example, 17" screen has 32 cm useful width => the eyes should be in 16 cm from the screen.

So, what I'd like to have, look at the picture. The same 17" screen, but with such a lens, that would make it look like 1m from the eyes (and the eyes would focus on 1m, not on terrible 16 cm), and consequently it would be like 2m screen. Real 90°FOV.

Though, with such distances the distance between the eyes affects the view.

[edit] Who is good at physics? What's the dependence between the focal length, the distance between the lens, the eye and the observed object?

I think you're very right. When i set the fov to 40 deg. everything feels more realistic, like looking trough a window (only a veeery tiny one ).

Same effect when setting the fov to 80 deg and putting your nose to the screen.

Im gonna get me a fresnel lens I think....

Quote from Cue-Ball :Well, this guy played WoW for over 50 hours before he died of exhaustion and dehydration, so you'll have to do at least two straight days to be impressive.

Isnt the record playing computer games something like 70 hours? I'd think the record simracing should be somewhere around that.

(Hell, im not gonna drive that long illepall)

Hail Traxxion, for starting this topic! This morning LFS was sure to lose in the poll, now its #1.

I really think that would be a bad idea, at least for now. Since the damage isnt perfect for now, cars that hit a wall fly all over the place and spin wildly. In real life they would break into pieces, and stop spinning much sooner.

Oh yes, this mainly aplies to the oval, other tracks are less dangerous.

And when im testing setups, I pit a lot, stopping the car everytime before I can pit isnt funny.

Quote from TravisS :According to the Raceabout website the 1/4 mile is actually closer to 14 seconds... so you've gone about 1.5 seconds faster then the real thing!

Makes me wonder. Is that 14s time way off, or is LFS way off?

http://www.raceabout.fi/car_techdata.php

My guess is that changeing gears in real life takes a bit more time.

I've had the same problem, try assigning left and right to an action, and then setting that action to (none) with del. That way, left and right arrow should be free of any action.

Quote from TurboRacer35 :Shifting first and clutching will stall if you're not quick if you don't use autoclutch (like me.)

Not in LFS, I do it all the time.
Its the other way around, if you release the clutch before you've finished shifting, it will go into neutal.

Quote from smith :Very strange situation, because in lap times data file Nauta's race time is smaller than Kok's, what is correct.
Only racers positions are wrong, and I can think of only one situation when it can happen - Nauta's lap time packet arrived later than his rival's one.
Anyhow I plan to get rid of positions data file and I'm going to rewrite positions graph so it shows position changes at every split instead of every lap.

I think that is very possible, 'cos the finish was VERY close.

Maybe its an idea to wait like 1sec before adding a racer to the final result list, too make sure every packet has arrived.

I've got a problem with the program. It doesnt output any files, nothing.

Program version is 1.277 with LFS S2 P2.

Connecting goes well, I see the split and laps times from every player, replay ends, program exits, but nothring else.
I tried this with a few races, same result.

Those walls sure were dangerous, hit one and you would fly 50m into the air.
Glad you changed it, cones are enough to tell people not to cross the line.

Btw. oval-office race event anywhere soon?

Snif, its not fair, I overtook Klaus Adam (no. 2) like 2 times and still i'm placed last

Btw, there really should be more oval racing, those GTR-oval servers are nearly always empty
