Case closed, this quickly?
Cmon guys, this mistery was fascinating.. I lost today 2 hours minimum banging my head around it.
Problem is that my friend was added by the author unknowingly, so he just thought the car was uploaded publicly.
There is not real indication on this website and on the game that the mod is in fact "private".
He was essentially unknowingly a beta-tester for this car.
I have never been more active on a forum ever, by mid-November I read so many threads, but I have surely missed the purpose of a private mod.. I thought the "approve" system by LFS staff, based on the car's rating, was enough.
I summon you, Scawen and Victor, to make more clear a mod is private possibly even while driving it around.
In Italy we need by law to add a very big "P" (for "Principiante") at the rear window of any car that is driven by a new driver.
On the website, at LEAST something in the mod homepage, otherwise how can I be aware this thing is private?
Honestly, I don't get it nor understand what is going on.
I tried as logged, unlogged, Chrome, Firefox, adblocks disabled, home and work computers and smartphone: nothing, I never saw this car.
My friend (who sent me that screenshot) instead can normally select the car in the game and drive it, as I have seen it going around on various servers. He sees it everywhere on the website, on any browser etc, but he must be logged in.
This PLM1 car's address page (http://www.lfs.net/files/vehicles/D1EBAD) redirects me to the vehicles home page.
It was published, updated, rated, downloaded, but nobody is talking about it in the forum, not even ELDemon that created specific forum threads for each mod he also created but this one.
Apart from understanding how ELDemon can work on so many mods at the same time, what is going on here really?
Best looking overall car: ACOSTA STARLIN (Lancia Stratos)
This is a masterpiece from the original creators to the Flame LFS porting.
Unfortunately there is no real rally track on LFS, those rallycross tracks are not really fine, also quite hard to setup for gp tracks.
I like a lot the almost-same-spec but different cars, usually made by the same author, like:
- MRG V8 GTR and LSV 12 GTR
- FT1R and FT28R (freaking amazing)
- VFI-9 and VKI-6
Dear Flame, this thing is so good but damn if it is hard to drive on tracks.
Meanwhile I still hope you will add slick tires, and:
- The central mirror could be prettier;
- Even more trivial: reducing rear height (not at the limit, still using reasonable values) and then bouncing the car, the tire can overlap the car body;
- This could be unfixable as it is caused by the shape of the car, but in rallycross tracks with other Acostas, from behind you can pass *under* other cars. The front is so pointy and low while the rear is so high, so it is a "perfect" scenario.
The LFS physics exagerates the effect a lot as usual unfortunately too.
Could this be at least reduced somehow? Maybe adding some almost-invisible points in the empty bottom part in the rear of the car?
On tracks it is harder to replicate, I suggest driving with AI on rallycross tracks and you will easily see what I mean.
This seems a pretty good hypothesis, even though I remember Scawen on Twitter complaining more against Discord itself lacking possibility to report an entire server and not just some messages.
Anyway, it is not even important whoever did this, because some day a DDos would arrive for anyone.. So let's hope the team will make the necessary adjoustment to the server infrastructure.
Well I cannot say the evening was ruined really.. I was left driving the Stratos so it could be much worse
Thank you for this stratospheric mod!
I wonder if you could enable the slick tires too, it would be great on tracks.
Pirelli created specifically for this car a semi-slick tire that unfortunately is missing in LFS, but I think slick tires would be good enough.
I've seen also other pictures like this one after the Montecarlo rally in '77.
Not as much as we need a proper rally track on LFS, but I know, that is a r(e)ally off-topic argument!
If this is still a WIP, I hope to see an updated version
I see you made other mods like the 23R JDM and it is clear your technical skills are improving.
However abount car skins, engine sound and engine curve, you know you can ask for help around.
Honestly I don't get why this car is a LFS "Staff Pick".
It has practically nothing interesting being something similar to UFR with a UF1 look.
No skins, boring audio, unrealistic aerodynamic setup.
It is barely more than a tweak mod imho, meanwhile other recent mods have pushed the bar much higher.
as mush as I appreciate your amazing hard work, I am worried about this.
I waited so long to see LFS resurrect from ashes and so the last thing we need now would be another long break from development.
I can speak about it being a developer myself.
It is important not to spend too much time of a day on the same thing because it accelerates the probability of a brain-explosion. It may be rewarding but also consuming inside.
I understand it is important to release an official LFS version before Holidays, so I kindly suggest you to not implement this very cool "auto skin function". Now should be only bug-fix time!
There are so many things upgradeable: bikes, mini RCs, airplanes, destruction derbys, tanks firing..
Nothing can be done if the small team of yours struggle into insanity.
Please accept my suggestion to do the bare minimum needed before the Official LFS version, which is already a big thing!
I mean.. if this thing is actually "driveable" while flying, I am really curious to know what Scawen think about the possibility to do it and to make your flying dreams become true!
Yesterday I tested the mini-moto mod and the other motorbike mod and it was absolutely surprisingly good. Maybe LFS can do even more..
If he could add a new propulsion system for this.. I'd vote yes.
Pls don't stop developing this.
It was a real surprise enjoying it!
Also thanks to Scawen 2-wheeled vehicles are more manageable at low speed.
The sound at the moment is probably the worst thing
Well if this isn't great I don't know what great is anymore.
I like this car, it is underrated now but I hope more people will enjoy this kind of thing!
Is there in Russia a real competition / championship similar to this car? I don't really know how to find it if exists.
I thought you made just a cube with 4 wheels.. then I opened the images.
Come on man release the thing I need to deliver packages on LFS tracks, I am already late!!
Please don't!
Interior > Exterior while driving.
Imho, only the front and the back of the car should be detailed, leaving less detailed the other parts (top, sides, bottom) that are more rarely seen during a race.
Interiors in LFS official cars are sooooooooooooo empty.. 15 years ago was ok, nowadays nope, not at all!
Amazing work man, keep going.
I like the numbazZ propose, I'd call them "variants" not "mods".
So, we could see in the LFS cars interface, for each official car a "variant" button.
However, there could be still thousand of variations for any car, for istance about the UF1000: the UF1300, but also a UF1305, UF1306.. you get the idea.
So, car variations too may have to be limited, but still they could be accepted more easily than a new car (aka "mod").
I haven't got this excited in a very long time about LFS!
The release plan makes sense, the mod system looks promising so I had to upgrade my license from S2 to S3 as a sign of appreciation and hope.
Then, the graphic upgrade (lighting system and textures) is veeeeery important but I'd suggest to do the tire physics update first.
Actually, it would be fantastic to have a whole LFS physics update: cars still fly at anything, brakes temperature is missing and maybe other things that would break hotlaps and car setups (LFS 0.8).
After those "core" changes, then I'd suggest to release anything graphics related. (LFS 0.9)
Finally the track editor that would be amazing but I am waiting more about the weather system that would practically double or triple the tracks already available. (LFS 1.0).
