That's why we need real info, if Russia really is invading then we're living in the most apathetic world ever. Russia already annexed another region and the world yawned. But if the US suddenly took Ontario it would be WWIII (makes me think we should take Ontario....). I guess that means Crimea (and Crimeans) aren't worth anything? Does that also apply to Ukrainians? The west doesn't want Ukraine. Why add another third world economy to an already failing system? Russia doesn't want Ukraine, the status quo was working just fine for Moscow's interests. Ukrainians don't even want Ukraine. They have failed time and time again at self governance and have some of the worst corruption in the world. That's why nothing will come of this fiasco. Nobody really cares.
My station wagon sunk in a flood that happened last Halloween in Austin along with my house and everything in it (over 5 feet of water). So naturally the logical choice is to fix a 30 year old car with >260k miles that was underwater for 6 hours. I'll have pics soon. Its a big job but I'm doing a lot of the work myself. It would not be possible of the car were a newer model, but everything ruined can be cheaply replaced. Rebuilt transmission, gutted the interior, drained bout 5 gallons of water from the engine... Its a big job but I decided a while ago that the wagon would go for 1 million miles come hell or high water. Got the water.
Yes that is also an opinion. I offered evidence to the contrary in the research of man-made global warming and the well-publicised scientific corruption that goes along with it. I'll admit the stakes are much lower in this debate, and so scientists don't have a lot to gain here from an argument that is all but settled. They still should remain open to the idea that they know actually very little about the formation of our various biological systems. They do better at that than creationists. I think that parts of both theories are likely to create a more accurate whole idea. The either-or mentality doesn't help us find the truth.

Well I dunno it might be nice to have Ukraine on our friends list and off of Russia's. They have every right to profit from their own energy resources with help from whoever they want to do business with. If a stronger relationship with the West brings more jobs and personal freedom then great. If it doesn't then Russia probably won't have hard feelings taking them back.

They have the biggest country with endless natural resources and a tiny population (per square mile) to divvy it between, if the entire rest of the world sunk into the ocean they'd be fine or better off. I do not discount evolution because it is well established, but we just do not know for certain what are all of the factors that led to life as we know it, and those faithful who claim to know have enormous egos and cannot be trusted entirely. Scientists are not always objective with the data, and also cannot be trusted if they have something to gain from publicising one conclusion over another. (public and private grant money) Look at the highly profitable science behind global warming. One conclusion gets public money because it generates expensive and powerful legislation, the other is discounted entirely to the point of outright hostility and hatred. It's not even a choice, going against the grain there is career suicide, just the same as scientists who examine the question of some kind of intervention in our evolutionary past.

Perhaps we monkey meat bags have as incomplete theories about evolution as we do about creationism. Life is too exquisitely engineered and complex to have spawned from the mud with no influence whatsoever imo. There are entire periods of our ancient history we know worse than nothing about because we have a knack for making shit up to see if it sounds right.

Getting past the rumors and half-truths, it seems to me there are a few benefits that could come out of this for Ukrainians. If this power play works out in favor of the West, corporations are already working to develop energy infrastructure for Ukraine to be less reliant on Putin. Oil shale jobs are paying young men six figure salaries in the US as well as creating local economies full of well paying jobs where few or none existed. Added to the fact that frakking throughout Eastern Europe would be a serious blow to Russia's influence over its former vassals, it also provides employment when it is needed the most. Everyone from scientists and researchers to roughnecks and computer technicians can get in on energy production and increase the power and wealth of their whole country and themselves.

The united states F1 grand pix starts November 14th in Austin Tx. I fly over the COTA track every time I go out since its right off the runway, but there is a no-fly zone that week, so no aerial shots from me. Even though its an international event, the city fills up with Aussies before you can blink.
