Yes, LFS' mouse support is very good. Perhaps, that's why I felt the way I did. AC is still raw on that front. True, it needs more mouse support. Let's see how things turn out. Thanks for you feedback, notanillusion and Imudilaskyline.
I was wondering whether the developers would allow enthusiasts to re-do the environment of the tracks (not the tracks, themselves; of course), so that some things might look fresh. Track-side buildings, landmarks, walls, trees, rumble strips, gravel, etc., could be re-done keeping the original poly-count and texture footprint the same. A contest could be arranged where fresh ideas can breathe new life on the sim, at least cosmetically.
I suppose the devs can release the track models to eager individuals (who they feel are qualified to do this), so that they can come up with interesting interpretation of the existing tracks (take something out; put something new in). Then, if the devs are happy with what they see, the same could be released as fresh ad-ons from LFS, itself. Of course, those who violate the interests of the devs by misusing any released info could have their license canceled. It would be a win-win for all concerned. Enthusiast model and texture artists may just be happy to have contributed. Imagine Fern Bay without the rural look, or south city with a village look. Tracks would be the same, of course. Just an idea. I hope just mentioning this idea won't get my license canceled.
It may even increase LFS sales, which the devs need to bring new stuff out (I'm assuming). Laziness is a very respectable lifestyle, I know. I am lazy myself, until something rivets my interests. Thoughts?
I was just wondering whether those that use mouse for steering in simracing have noticed this, or it could just be me. Apologies in that case.
First of, LFS is awesome to say the least. I've enjoyed this sim for many years (still do), but since I have only steered with the mouse thus far, I don't know how the cars feel on the wheel (I've read people, here, saying LFS' feel on the wheel is second to none).
So, I tried AC with its inbuilt mouse steering, and I have to say that the cars feel much more realistic on the mouse as far as sensations of weight shifts and forces acting on chasis and wheels are concerned. On LFS, the inbuilt mouse steering feels as if the cars have no weights. It's almost as if the cars were attached to a single, stiff suspension on one tire. Maybe, this has got to do with center reduction set to 0; I don't know.
There is some lag with AC's mouse input, though it got much lower for me when I disabled car surface reflections. The resulting feel was really great, though. I'm specifically talking about situations where you just about make a turn at high speed, thereby putting a lot of stress on one side of the tires and feel the weight of the car bouncing and oscillating on the tires so stressed as a result. On LFS, similar situations only give me very mild sensations of the same (more like intuitive).
Is this just me, or do you guys feel the same. Again, it's for those who use mouse for steering input. I suppose the proposed update of tire physics on LFS would address this. Maybe not. I don't know. Thoughts?
Are you the only one with a racing server? Talk about using an isolated incident and taking it to extreme proportions. With regards to apologies, read above. People like me have so far stayed calm. Emotional people, like you, will lose it eventually and start showing your true colors.
Not only taunting, cursing, abusive, but also xenophobic and racist, I see. Thank you for showing your true colors. And, what is all this based on - Just 2 races and 2 complaints, when I have done about 1500 laps on your servers? As for the high ping, it's only 200. Nice people in other servers allow me to race. I am, myself, aware that I have a high ping, and usually avoid starting from the grid, but doing it from the pits and trying to stay away from others. You may not realize it yet, but you are making this out to be more than what it is now.
Thank you, finally (sigh), for taking the time to explain things calmly. I have no problem accepting fault for all incidents if things are explained without resorting to personal attacks, and I accept fault. See how easy that was. Your approach worked well, didn't it? Try teaching that to nl. If you've read my complaint at nl, you'll know that I was more concerned with the language used, rather than the ruling. Did you review the incident involving CR and another car at the hairpin? Wasn't that a failed barge passing move? Did he say sorry? Naturally, I said if people like to give advice, they should pay heed to them also. Then, he starts ranting. Both nl and CR may be very knowledgeable as racers, but they sound like ignorant human beings. Thanks again for explaining your point of view. People who know me know that I apologize for incidents. During race, I can't reach for the function buttons. Trying to reach them ends up I typing tab, and that's not helpful.
I don't want to burden the members here by getting into a debate with you and prolonging this. There is a difference between saying, "Are you on drugs?" (which may be used to express disbelief in western popular culture), and saying, "You are on drugs", which sounds more like an insult. And, I'm not from the west. LFS is a global name with members from all over the world.
I've made my post. If the developers and other members want to give their views, it is up to them. I just don't want the ban (the most severest in this case) - which was imposed emotionally and haphazardly - carrying over to other servers by default.
You mentioning "Eric" and "Don't care much" sounds like you claiming that you have influence over the developers, and that, you're free to do things as you see fit. I'm happy to avoid your server, but I wouldn't want you using your special bond with the developers to ruin my experience of LFS in other servers.
Here is the pdf version of the forum page in question. I'm posting this here, because the site admin has already begun to change the contents of the forum page.
I have been wrongly banned for 999 days for reporting an incident to a server admin about verbal abuse in racing servers. The server admin was even more abusive and banned me for starting a debate about decorum. I think this kind of behavior will bring a bad name to LFS. I just recently got a S2 license, and now I think it was a mistake.
Please follow the link posted below. Everything will be clear. Pay close attention to the language the server admin uses. Please go through this link quickly, because the admin may turn it down.
are reflections, specularity, glossiness handled numerically through the cfg file alone, or can we edit their maps directly? I don't have LFS on this computer, but I think I saw images that looked like spec maps where LFS was installed (within some sub-folders). I only have LFS Viewer on this computer. I can see images under the maps_info folder that look like attribute maps, but they're in jpg format. They can't be normal maps. What are they, and can we directly edit maps other than the diffuse maps and upload them? This would give us more control in creating skins with variable amounts of everything.
[QUOTE=MorfeasFX;1628022]It's all a matter of what you get used to in my opinion.
True.
Has anyone tried using mouse y axis for throttle and brake? Tried it with PPJoy on some sims, but didn't stick with it. If one can master it, it'd be much better than accelerating and braking with non-linear keys and buttons.
Please allow users to change the keys assigned for messages. Currently, they're only assigned to the function keys. It's hard for me to reach them. I've been using the following key combo for years on racing sims:
Accelerator - A
Brake - Z
Shift Up - S
Shift Down - X
Steering - Mouse if available
I use my index and middle fingers for throttle and shifts. My attempts to access the function keys in races has many times resulted in I pressing the tab key and getting into someone else's cockpit - disaster!
I've been working on the old Knight Rider car and Volkswagon Beetle. I just wanted to know if it's possible to add these cars in LFS. If it's possible, please explain how and the polygon counts I'll have to work with. I don't know programming, though. Using 3ds max btw.
