Actually, I'd still say that we don't need more classes, but more choices within each class. Take the FXR/FZR and add 2-3 more cars, with characteristics close to those and voila - you got a very mixed driver field competing.
Same for the tracks - don't implement rallycross when we still need some more street tracks. Adding 2-3 difficult courses and additionally, a few Nordschleife-alikes which are VERY long and VERY difficult will encourage the people to master their skills within a class.
My understanding is that a wide range of cars attracts people for a short time, where as a narrow, but deep range will motivate over a longer time (but attracts less new lfs users).
Think so too. I am a bit confused when I read someone did a PB but can't find that persons name in the list. If the weblogin is treated as a unique ID behind the screen name, it would be fine to put the idea in () brackets behind or whatever.
Bug or Intention: Weblogin instead of Racers Name at PB
Noticed it yesterday, and I am not sure wether this is a bug or intended. Has it been this way before?
-> When I drive a personal best lap time, the server displays my weblogin, like "huxorator drove a new PB (xxx)", regardless of the driver name I am using. If I drive as huxley or something else, huxorator is still displayed. Anyone noticed? Happened to me with FXR on AS national.
Whenever I hear "Ferrari Sound", the Rendezvous Video comes to my mind. Anyways, having better sounds is one thing, but my personal focus is more on authentic tracks & cars (with fake names, due to licensing). Racing on Nürburgring Nordschleife is just sooo great... *sigh* Believe me or not, I got this lousy SimBin GTR only for racing the Nordschleife with different Porsche.
'to idle' means to do nothing, to be more specific: when his car stands still on the track, his wheel starts to shake from left to right. I have that too and dont know how to fix it, yet.
Please consider changing from ACPI to Standard as the last thing to try as it will require you to reinstall every driver and figure around with your IRQs... this can be a lot of work. If you still like to try, you can find the option at Win Device Manager -> Computer -> ACPI-Multiprocessor-PC (that's what mine reads).
Another idea: What cards, besides your Audigy Soundcard, do you have installed? Some Motherboards use "shared IRQs", which means that PCI Slot 1 and 3 for example share the same IRQ. This is no problem for most of the cards, but for example Sound Card + ISDN Card do not work together on these shared slots. Your Boards Manual will tell you if this shared IRQ for PCI is used. If so, put your cards on other PCI slots.
I have ATI Gfx for a while, so I am not up-to-date on nvidia drivers: Maybe try some recommended driver versions, which are known as safe harbour. I remember back in detonator 41.x times, there where loads of problems due to drivers, mostly the WHQL certified ones where the only ones which seemed stable.
2nd thought: Does your board manufacturer provide some newer BIOS versions? Updating may help. And for the ACPI which is said to be a problem, you can switch Win XP from ACPI to "Standard Computer" Mode. This requires you to reinstall some drivers and set some IRQ by hand, but it may be worth a try if you know what you do.
Oh, yes you're right. Imagine one day you don't get your corner right and crash into a wall - who is paying you a new wheel? The Dev team as they didn't put tires in front of the wall to bounce you off?
If someone rests his chin on the wheel ... that's his decision, but it's his own risk.
If someone likes to tie his p3n1s to the wheel and it gets stretched to double length, it's his own risk (although he might enjoy it).
You simply cannot hold other people responsible for your FF hardware movements.
I put a small news on www.bremer-liga.de - it would have been longer if I haven't been that late after the S2 release. Will give it a feature once in a while on the site.
Intel P4 CPUs drastically decrease performance when hitting a certain temperature. But, no doubt, you would obviously notice what is happening when this occurs as the drop in FPS is close to a total system halt. If temperatures continue to raise at that point, the CPU will shut the whole system off (which is dangerous too, as the cooling fan stops to work while the CPU is still very hot).
I like the lower tyre temps at start, as everyone needs to adjust to it. Going into the first corner with very low traction needs a bit of skill if you don't want to mess it. That makes to choice of tyre more tactical as you may benefit of a longer lasting tyre or one that has it's grip way earlier. Just think of racers with R4 tyres that are at green temps at the start o.O and then forget about the warmer request.
I'd like to have a sort function for Server names, Player Numbers, Current Track, ... you know, click the column to sort. This goes for the ingame browser and the lfsworld browser as well.
I allready look at your ASG as a kind of bible as it covers so many things that are to be considered when setting up a car... really great work. But as you said, it's a bit to complex if you try to look up a specific thing. Basically, everything is mentioned, but what it needs is a section for "reverse lookup".
You know, beginners like me read the setup guide 1 or 2 times, but when they encounter a specific problem, it is very hard to find all possible solutions in the guide. A good thing would be a list of scenarios with possible solutions, like:
My car doesn't reach enough top speed!
- You could set your gear ratio to ... (page x)
- Try to decrease the wings angles (page y)
- ...
My car oversteers when entering a corner / while under no throttle!
- Try this
- Try that
My car oversteers when exiting a corner / when engine is under load!
- Try ... whatever
I Think you get the idea. The problem is that I don't have such an overview which points me to the solutions in your guide. I know the solutions are in it, but there is always more than 1 option to fix something. Now the question would be how to make such a 'what to do, when'-list. I can't answer many of those questions yet, but I got a lot of questions if this may help someone to establish such a checklist.
I got this installed on my shuttle as well, seems to work just fine. To give you an idea of my system: Shuttle SB51G, P4 3.06 ghz (the one which is getting massively hot ), 1 GB Ram, Geforce 9800 Pro. Racing on AS National with a lot of cars happening on screen results in 70 to 90 fps, dont got a benchmark, but it is running very smooth. Obviously, Graphics Adapter come into play and your fps will be something different from mine.
My Shuttle runs very fine with the latest drivers from the website, so that should be fine with you, too.
About windows swap file: This is a amount of hard disk space used as virtual memory. Once you are in the task manager (ctrl+alt+del), you can find the systems usage or whatever it is called, showing you how much RAM is used and how much is available. Same goes for the virtual memory (swap file). You can set the amount used for swapping when you right-click "my desktop", choose preferences, extended(?), system performance(?), virtual memory. I've set it to the same amount as my RAM, that's 1024 MB for swapping. If you run multiple partitions on your systems, you might chose a partition for swapping that is not used as the Windows partition ( c: ).
Dunno if those will dramatically change anything.
In my opinion, it makes no difference wether you install a Win XP without any Service Packs and patch to the most recent version or start off with a SP2 XP.
Another wild guess: Try to change the Hardware acceleration for the Sound Card in Direct X Setup (dxdiag.exe).
Did you try start -> run -> dxdiag.exe and checked wether there is a problem with DirectX installation?
Did you install the Intel Application Accelerator? I often forget this thingie as it is not neccessary but improves performance on Intel-based systems a lot. You can find it at the intel download page.
Also - did you use the (mainboard) install cd that shipped with the Board/Computer? That drivers work, but might be rather old. Chosing new drivers on the manufacturers download page for each component is worth a try.
What about your windows swap file? Did you set it to the same setting as under your old Win Install?
@Topic: I am pretty much happy with my adjustable office chair. Only thing I would need to think about is a way to stop it from moving / rolling on the floor. It is standing on 5 casters and therefor, I am looking for a smart & good-looking way to give it a break.
