Depends how the startlights are done. If when the light goes green the server sends that message for all players then the player with smallest ping will see the green light first. Small differences in ping don't make much difference but even a tenth is a lot.

Quote from sinbad :A drag strip isn't exactly something that would take a lot of dev time up, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's a part of some kind of test track facility like the one in nkp, I forget it's name, it had the skid pad. When's the eta anyway?

It was crema i think. It had that circle thing you could drive around.

I think the biggest thing to get right with drag racing is the tire physics as the initial launch of the car where the speed starts from 0 has been quite unimportant feature for sim racing for quite some time and sims have had some "big" problems with it. Mainly iracing but I think many games have this thing called low speed physics which kicks in at really slow speeds (less than 1kmh or so). For normal racing that part of the physics is not very important but for drag racing it is kinda important.

Other thing to get right is the timing. You would not want to create lots of drag racing content if you do not take ping into consideration. Especially at 400m drag racing you do not want to give the other player half a tenth advantage just because he has low ping. For normal racing and starts that difference makes no difference but in drag racing I think reaction times is very important. At 160kmh speeds for example a difference in ping of just 0.05s means already 2.2metre difference.

Quote from Bean0 :Didn't Ferrari have to change their logo as it was too similar to the Marlboro one ?
I can't see McLaren being allowed to re-use the old Marlboro livery if this was the case.

Well lotus is effectively running the gold and black john player tobacco paintjob from its earlier years so I doubt in that sense there are very few reasons why mclaren couldn't run the red and white color scheme.

I think the old red and white would look very good in the mclarens but I doubt the other sponsors nor even mclaren themselves would want that. Would be quite strange if mclaren keeps the silver bullet paint scheme though.

There are some massive differences in gt5 with the cars as well. Most cars understeer like brick and generally it is almost impossible to tune out the earth shattering understeer. Some other cars feel pretty decent though and while you can not really drive through a corner in small slip angle you can still push and the car responds with under or oversteer. S2000 with confort softs can be fun, the maclaren f1 gtr with some setup work and hard tiers can drive nicely and some other cars are fine too. Some of the cars are absolutely bizarre though like the formula cars.

A bit worried about the spinning comments though.

I will most probably get this on the release date just like I did with gt5. Despite the obvious shortcomings I've played gt5 more than any other racing game in the past 3 years and personally I just love it when you can jump into an online race without any practise and just get on with it.

Looking at that xbow vid my only concern at the moment is the lack of bonnet view. The cockpit view in gt5 was always unplayable for me because of the low fps, slow responsiveness of the car, random rubber neck movement and general lack of feedback about what the car was doing.

I really hope pd will bring back some of the classic gt tracks from earlier versions. Like, Special Stage R11, rome, seattle, apricot hill, red rock valley, midfield and el capitan.

Took few months break and just got back playing again. Rebought tiger2 and it is still total crap but I really want e75 and even e100 looks pretty fun. I really need money and I want to sell my arties but I'll just wait for the 8.6 test to see how exactly are the arties going to change.

As for the premium ammo making little impact on low tiers? 10.5 says hello. Those heat shells are game breaking imho. Not to forget grilles and hummels hitting you with 700hp with their working as intended premium ammo from the other side of the map. It is all over the place. Most of the time you don't get them in the enemy team and even if you do they usually die fast if they are not good players. But when you get a good playing derping prem ammo around you are in for a suffering.

Looks to me that the guy who crashed tried to pass the other guy but the car in front tried to block but was too late and bumped into the side causing the guy fishtail and lose control.

If he was fit to drive F1 car I'm sure he would have already had that kind of opportunity. Being away may or may not hurt him but it is his hand that is the question mark. Can he do all the things a driver needs to do in the cockpit given that the team can design a steering wheel just for him. And for full race distance...

Quote from DeKo :The steering isn't linear? Since when? Mine is set up at 900 and then not touched, has always been absolutely linear for me (at least the virtual wheel has always matched my physical wheel). Is it only when you short calibrate your wheel?

If you have 900 degree steering wheel...

So real cars have speed sensitive steering and unlinear but adjustable steering ratio?

Personally I've pretty much totally given up with iracing and after my sub runs out I'll never give them 1 cent more. After 5 years they are still not offering the most basic kind of wheel support. How they are still claiming to be a sim while forcing you to deal with steering unlinearity and speed sensitiveness you can not turn off is just plain ignorant and stupid beyond redonkulous at this point.

Even consoles offer incredibly better support in this regard and if assetto corsa is even nearly as good it looks now when it is released I'll get some 1k€ equipment and totally forget I've spend some comparable sums into this halfassed piece of disappoitment...

In this case it seems the attack came from inside (not saying it was anything tinfoil guberment nonsense) because the islamist fundamentalist groups are always pretty quick to take the blame and it doesn't seem to have been a suicide attack. Maybe some lone gunman or small group because there seems to have been quite a few bombs and not all of them went off.

Looks really bad. . Some of the gore pics posted are sick though.

A bit annoying to read this kind of flymike conspiracy shit this soon though...

Quote from Hyperactive :Master you called!?

https://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=82544

Anyways, here's a separate thing for this thread:
1) which team will score most points?
2) will pole sitter win the race?
3) who wins the race?
4) number of cars finish?
5) will williams score points?
6) who gets the fastest lap?
Bonus) first driver to finish lap down?

You have time to post answer until the first practise session starts.

Correct answers:
1: Ferrari (33)
2: No
3: Alonso
4: 18 cars
5: No
6: Vettel
B: Bianchi

Proper offline mode means little more than just having an ai. You need a system to manage the races and competitors somehow. GT5 for example has over thousand cars and tens of different tracks but as offline racing sim it is very limited in many ways. You can make it do things it is not meant to do (I just had 4 lapper race in rain in nordschleife in slightly tuned merc e190) but it requires lots of luck and some planning.

You only get decent opposition if you handicap your car and even then the races have maybe one or two cars that go really fast while the rest go really slow. No multiclasses and no control at all over what kind of opponents you have. Which restricts a lot what kind of cars you can drive in the first place...

So simply having ai is not really enough for an offline experience. You want to adjust their speed so they can be made faster or slower than you and you want to be able to make the races configurable in some ways as well.

These predictions are nothing more than a build-up thing for the weekend. The "deadline" for the predictions is the start of the first practise which means that these predictions will not clutter the thread once the cars start driving around the track. Plus this makes the thread more active when there is not much else to talk about.
