CPU is overclocked (but I've backed this off and it's made no difference, and has been running at this frequency long before this issue). GPU is at stock clocks.
I would imagine a GPU hardware fault would probably cause the PC to stop working, and the GPU (AMD 6750) is the "newest" component, bought second hand off eBay...
Maybe I'll try some GPU stress testing software - I don't do *anything* GPU intensive on my PC.
No BSOD, just a freeze.
All jokes aside, while I love my MacBook it's not quite the paragon of reliability advertised. Plus, no OSX drivers for my GPU...
2 of the three screens (coming off my AMD graphics card) freeze with lines, the other one (off the onboard graphics) just freezes.
Tried endless combinations of GPU drivers as that was my first thought. Tried dialing back the overclock / not running intensive things but hasn't made a difference.
Happens at random, after an hour it might do it or maybe a day. Doesn't seem to happen in Safe Mode, but as it's so sporadic I can't really test it.
Event viewer hasn't said anything helpful, either.
PC was only built a few months ago, and has been working fine.
I hate to bump a several year old thread, but I was leafing through some MG Rover documentation and came accross this regarding the EBD (electronic brake distribution) component of the ABS system.
I've been trying this all day, despite saying it does OpenCL it just says my card doesn't do CUDA and then goes to the CPU and only runs on one core very slowly.
It's also totally failed to find the very simple passwords on the last 3 files I gave it ("test", "ab" & "abc") so I can't really trust it either :/
Shame as it looked good!
(rarcrack does ~3200 passwords/second inside Ubuntu running within VMWare, using all 4 cores at 4.8 GHz)
I'm a geek, I like my PC fast. Even if I didn't need the CPU power, I enjoy getting the most out of my CPU - I didn't have the opportunity to overclock much with my previous PC's (poor stepping Xeon, my generation Phenom didn't overclock well) and I'd forgotten what it's like to have a properly overclocked PC (my AMD 3700+ ran at 40% OC)
However, my PC is always at full load (password cracking - I zipped up all my files and then lost the password!) but also it's used for photo / video editing and for lots of Uni stuff. Basically, I'm a CPU whore.
I currently have an i7 3770k running at 4.8 GHz at 1.275v, with a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU cooler.
Under full load it sits at about 70° C (100% CPU accross all 4 cores), but under tests like Prime95 it can get quite a bit warmer.
I'd like to overclock a little more, as from what I've seen the overclock / voltage I've got makes it look like I must have a good CPU - but I can't really push it any higher on it's current cooling.
I've seen Corsair H100's for as little as £60 refurbished from eBuyer.
Question is - is it worth it? Am I going to be able to get any more usable clockspeed out of my CPU?
I don't mind the cost so much, it's the hassle of taking the motherboard out to fit the backplate! (my case has a backplate hole by the motherboard, but it's in the wrong place!)
It did get a lot worse but when it was that bad I wasn't really in the mind to get out and take pictures!
I noticed last week my tyres were getting a bit low and not gripping as well as they could do, the last week on high-performance summer tyres without much tread hasn't exactly been fun.
Next year, winters for sure - bought the wheels, just need to get the tyres (although it has to be 18" to clear my brakes!)
I didn't see the point in a 120 Hz display (or at least when I was looking - they were double the price for the OC'able versions - and 120 Hz was no guarantee!)
I've never used the stand so I've no idea how stable it is.
Stabililty - not sure what you mean.
Stand - looked cheap. Not really an issue. Use mine on a desk-mounted monitor mount anyway.
Price - £190 + £25 customs fees. 27" Dell is >£500. Unbeatable value. Even 27" 1080P displays cost more than that.
Shipping - Good for overseas. Just under 2 weeks iirc. Much quicker than Chinese airmail.
Panel - Looks amazing. Makes the rest of my screens look shit (but then they are). TBH I haven't properly used another "amazing" display to form another comparison.
If mine broke tomorrow, I'd buy another in a heartbeat. Maybe 2. Everyone one of my friends who has seen it (and who obviously cares about PC's!) adores and it wants to purchase it.
