Quote from DavidTiger :You have 2 screens on the AMD Card and one on the OnBoard Chip?

Because if the OnBoard is freezing as well then it sounds like a CPU/PSU issue as if it was only the AMD card then the OnBoard should continue to work?

I would imagine IF my GPU keeled over I would expect the driver might kill the OS as well.

CPU is overclocked (but I've backed this off and it's made no difference, and has been running at this frequency long before this issue). GPU is at stock clocks.

Will try Prime next time it dies.

Quote from Jakg :1 hour and 30 mins of Furmark, GPU at 66° C, no crashes & no artefacts etc.

I do have a spare 7600GT on my desk but I was hoping to be able to avoid messing around with drivers etc.

Tempted to think it might not be the GPU

About 10 mins after this, I unplugged my iPhone from the PC - 2 seconds later and it crashed. Might be USB drivers...

3DMark 11 is downloading. Any recommendations on any other pieces of software to use to test it with?

Quote from Mysho :I had something similar on my PC, the reason was dead VRAM on my graphic card. But I had single GPU and single monitor... If you had dead GPU at least one of your screens should be still working.

I would imagine a GPU hardware fault would probably cause the PC to stop working, and the GPU (AMD 6750) is the "newest" component, bought second hand off eBay...

Maybe I'll try some GPU stress testing software - I don't do *anything* GPU intensive on my PC.
Quote from Bose321 :Is it a BSOD, or just this?

No BSOD, just a freeze.
Quote from Bose321 :Buy a Mac?

All jokes aside, while I love my MacBook it's not quite the paragon of reliability advertised. Plus, no OSX drivers for my GPU...
PC Keeps Crashing

Recently my PC has started crashing.

2 of the three screens (coming off my AMD graphics card) freeze with lines, the other one (off the onboard graphics) just freezes.

Tried endless combinations of GPU drivers as that was my first thought. Tried dialing back the overclock / not running intensive things but hasn't made a difference.

Happens at random, after an hour it might do it or maybe a day. Doesn't seem to happen in Safe Mode, but as it's so sporadic I can't really test it.

Event viewer hasn't said anything helpful, either.

PC was only built a few months ago, and has been working fine.

Any ideas?

Im not quite sure what you mean by "clutch work like a diesel car"?

The clutch in a diesel works in the same way as a petrol car...

I hate to bump a several year old thread, but I was leafing through some MG Rover documentation and came accross this regarding the EBD (electronic brake distribution) component of the ABS system.

Quote :The EBD function optimises the distribution of hydraulic pressure between the front and rear axles, under all vehicle
load configurations and road conditions, to maintain vehicle stability during braking. EBD operates in forward and
reverse and is automatically enabled whenever the ABS ECU is in the normal braking mode at vehicle deceleration
rates of 0.3 g and above (i.e. medium to high brake pedal loads). EBD operation is similar to that of ABS, but is
calibrated to intervene at lower wheel slip limits and operates on the rear brakes only.
During braking, if the ABS ECU detects the wheels of the rear axle going slower than those of the front axle, i.e. a
potential wheel slip situation, it signals the hydraulic modulator to close the inlet solenoid valve for the brakes of the
rear wheels. This prevents any further increase in hydraulic pressure to those brakes, while allowing the hydraulic
pressure to the brakes on the front axle to increase and so maximise the overall braking effort. If the wheel speeds of
the rear axle return within the calibrated wheel slip limits, the ABS ECU signals a stepped opening of the inlet solenoid
valves, which allows a progressive increase of hydraulic pressure to the rear brakes.
Operation of EBD is detectable from a stiffening of brake pedal movement as the inlet solenoid valves close and a
slight pulsing of the brake pedal as the inlet solenoid valves open. EBD operation ceases immediately the brake pedal
is released. The wheel slip limit for EBD operation varies with vehicle speed.

So yes, it does activate in reverse.

Quote from MadCatX :This rarcrack by any chance? This thingie is a nice POSIX + C exercise but not an actual archive cracker cRARk is a much better CUDA/OpenCL aware tool which runs even on Windows.

I've been trying this all day, despite saying it does OpenCL it just says my card doesn't do CUDA and then goes to the CPU and only runs on one core very slowly.

It's also totally failed to find the very simple passwords on the last 3 files I gave it ("test", "ab" & "abc") so I can't really trust it either :/

Shame as it looked good!

(rarcrack does ~3200 passwords/second inside Ubuntu running within VMWare, using all 4 cores at 4.8 GHz)

No

To make you cry even more - the software I'm using (rarcarck - it's a .7z file) is Linux only so it's running in an Ubuntu VM!

I really should just write my own at some point but... effort

Quote from Forbin :For what could you possibly need that much CPU performance in the first place?

I'm a geek, I like my PC fast. Even if I didn't need the CPU power, I enjoy getting the most out of my CPU - I didn't have the opportunity to overclock much with my previous PC's (poor stepping Xeon, my generation Phenom didn't overclock well) and I'd forgotten what it's like to have a properly overclocked PC (my AMD 3700+ ran at 40% OC)

However, my PC is always at full load (password cracking - I zipped up all my files and then lost the password!) but also it's used for photo / video editing and for lots of Uni stuff. Basically, I'm a CPU whore.
CPU Cooler Upgrade?

I currently have an i7 3770k running at 4.8 GHz at 1.275v, with a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU cooler.

Under full load it sits at about 70° C (100% CPU accross all 4 cores), but under tests like Prime95 it can get quite a bit warmer.

I'd like to overclock a little more, as from what I've seen the overclock / voltage I've got makes it look like I must have a good CPU - but I can't really push it any higher on it's current cooling.

I've seen Corsair H100's for as little as £60 refurbished from eBuyer.

Question is - is it worth it? Am I going to be able to get any more usable clockspeed out of my CPU?

I don't mind the cost so much, it's the hassle of taking the motherboard out to fit the backplate! (my case has a backplate hole by the motherboard, but it's in the wrong place!)

Obligatory snow picture:

It did get a lot worse but when it was that bad I wasn't really in the mind to get out and take pictures!

I noticed last week my tyres were getting a bit low and not gripping as well as they could do, the last week on high-performance summer tyres without much tread hasn't exactly been fun.

Next year, winters for sure - bought the wheels, just need to get the tyres (although it has to be 18" to clear my brakes!)

I say this without exaggeration or hyperbole.

I physically feel sick after watching that.

I didn't see the point in a 120 Hz display (or at least when I was looking - they were double the price for the OC'able versions - and 120 Hz was no guarantee!)

I've never used the stand so I've no idea how stable it is.

Stabililty - not sure what you mean.
Stand - looked cheap. Not really an issue. Use mine on a desk-mounted monitor mount anyway.
Price - £190 + £25 customs fees. 27" Dell is >£500. Unbeatable value. Even 27" 1080P displays cost more than that.
Shipping - Good for overseas. Just under 2 weeks iirc. Much quicker than Chinese airmail.
Panel - Looks amazing. Makes the rest of my screens look shit (but then they are). TBH I haven't properly used another "amazing" display to form another comparison.

If mine broke tomorrow, I'd buy another in a heartbeat. Maybe 2. Everyone one of my friends who has seen it (and who obviously cares about PC's!) adores and it wants to purchase it.
