Ahh shucks thanks

You can see arox driving over your kart in the vid btw.

@ Bread, did you find your charger, I found a usb to what looks like your type of connection behind where you were sitting, sleeping, drinking..

Great vid, seems like it was more than just the 2 aggressive drivers, but always kart 1 receiving it

I have arox`s charger. Ask him to mail me his address.

Kart race timing using bluetooth

Hello programmers!

I have a request, or more like an idea and wondered if anyone in the LFS community could help.

I am currently running the LFS UK Kart Meet and there is no timing at the track. For next year, it would be great if we could have a free system to count the amount of laps each kart does, and even better if we could track the lap times (to the nearest second or two).

I thought of using bluetooth. We have bluetooth in all our phones, and also bluetooth in our laptops. I read this article - which in theory suggests it would work.

My idea is this - Before the race, we would scan each drivers mobile phone and get their bluetooth id. Then, when each driver went out on track, we would have a laptop setup as the master with an application to track when each bluetooth device came within range. As they come into range (bluetooth is about 10m), the laptop would record the time. As the kart then went out of range and came back into range, the timing would be complete for that kart for 1 lap.

Apparently the phones don't need to be in discoverable mode to do this, which would mean no problems with battery life (each driver would do 1.5 hours max). The laptop would have a problem with doing the full days racing, but we could always have the app running on a second or third laptop to take over when battery issues became an issue.

Can anyone see anything wrong with this idea, and more importantly, could anyone help with the app?

Looked at this briefly, but not sure if it does what we need?

And these apps

I remember in the enduro race, I had 3 cars ahead by a little distance under yellows. I watched the track ahead, saw the yellows go, and passed all 3.

A totally legitimate move, but the look on their races was priceless

Also @ TVE - no price whatsover for repairs to my house as I do all the work myself, and tbh, a little filling and painting is to be expected. If it makes you feel better, you can buy me a pint next time :P

BUT.... If you guys had ripped my pool table, that would be a different story

I agree Thomas, there were two drivers who spring to mind that weren't the cleanest shall we say. One was my son, who had never karted before and didn't understand the CRC rules (to say the least). The other I think was a rush of blood to the head....

Let's hope that it will not be repeated next year, as it did spoil the spirit of the day, and I saw that it was team 1 who seemed to be on the receiving end of most of it

Apart from that, I thought everyone else drove with upmost sporting behaviour, except me (see below)

I was about to overtake Dave (stormcloud, my own teammate in lfs), had 2 cars behind, and braked quite late going into the corkscrew. I got it wrong and bumped Dave to the outside. I overtook, said sorry but didn't give the place back due to the 2 cars behind... Really sorry for that one Dave, was a genuine accident with the bump, but I still should have given the place back no matter how many places it cost me..

Well everyone, I'm almost recovered (well not really). Had about 6 hours sleep all weekend, but was well worth it.

I would like to thank everyone for coming and hope you all enjoyed yourselves as much as I did. Also thanks for looking after my house (apart from the serving hatch stunt which has left a hole in one of my new walls and a bit of repainting to be done )

It was great seeing lots of old faces again and also the new ones. If anyone is wondering, arox was a lovely guy and it was a pleasure having him there, more than welcome to come back

I think the whole weekend went really well, and seeing how knackered everyone was by the end of the karting, we had plenty of track time even with the increased numbers. The karting itself was a blast, the karts were definitely better than the year before, although there were at least one super fast kart (number 6 in last race), and one slow kart (number 1 in last race). The fast kart didn't matter so much as Franky500 had it . but I did feel sorry for the Swedes, who should have said something BEFORE the event finished, as I'm sure the marshalls could have taken a look at it.

My personal karting day went very well. The first race Mark (my brother) got black flagged, then KayJay ran out of fuel, swapped karts, then I did an extra unneeded pitstop, so to come 5th wasn't so bad. In the endurance race we were determined to at least get a podium and drove like a bat out of hell, and I think all 3 of us drove very well, and to finish 4 laps ahead with the win was great!

It was good to see 6 teams take home something from the day, and Franky500 getting the Driver of the Day was a nice, and deserved touch.

Alot of us partied hard on the Friday, and I have hazy memories of Bread getting his ass out a few times on the live stream, which of course he had to better on the Saturday The Saturday started off slowly with everyone being knackered, but after a bit of food (thanks alot Tongey for cooking!) and a few beers, turned out to be another legendary night.

On Sunday I missed saying goodbye to a few people, so sorry for that (although I did stay up till 6am). We then had another BBQ, a few more beers and watched the F1 (with LFS style remote and timing). A perfect finish to a great weekend

Thanks again to everyone for coming and making it a great Kart Meet, and of course you are all welcome back next year. I have spoken to the missus and she has OK'd it, so if you would all like me to do it again, I'd be more than happy to. It gets easier each year to organise, and it also helps that alot came last time. Next year I want my bed though, not mentioning no names cargame.nl

To answer a few questions - I expect the earliest arrivals around 4-5pm.

The severn bridge costs £5.40 or something like that I think. No cards!

Track is the same, the karts are new ones. Same power, better condition and gearing for the big people apparently.

Bring the airbed John, but sharing is appreciated with the limited space.

Cargame/Dave, bring the sleeping bag if you have space, up to you.
