Quote from GianniC :Drifting ?
LFS ?
Sure why not!
We have dragging, we have oval racing, we have rally.. why not drifting ?

I totally agree. I mean, cmon guys. Lets be nice and understand that people like different things in LFS. Some like racing, some like rallycross, some like drift etc.

This discussion is a little bit oversized i think. Acceptance is a good work in this case. No one force you to hang around on driftservers if you dont like drift. Simplicity is pure science LFS have soooo many different forms, lets enjoy that instead of make it to some sort of World War 3. (I dont say thats it wrong to discuss things, but this feels kinda enlarged) So lets bury teh hatchet and smoke the pipe of peace.

Quote from Jamexing :Well, newsflash: The earth is NOT FLAT.

Neither are rallycorss circuits.

Not flat, but show me a rallycross track that have the same size of the jumps as Blackwood RallyX

@ Rubenz81 "And yes there is also rallycross on ice/snow... at least where i live."

Maybe you mean ice-racing? Its almost the same as rallycross, but the surface is ice and rallycross-, rally cars and other saloon cars can compete.

Quote from deggis :What...? Why should we deal with that at all? have you ever tried driving FXR on rallyx tracks (with the Kege's Slickmod that allows to use rallyx tires too)?

That would need more work than just adding new tires for one car... that was my point, giving FXR suitable tires for rallyx would end the whining about proper rallyx car at least for some time.

I have raced the EIRC championship (http://www.magicturtles.com/eirc/index.php?lang=eng) with FXR on graveltyres, but the physics is just not right. Lets face it, to just change tyres on a tarmac/race car with optimised downforce and hard suspension doesnt make it a good rallycross car. It still has the tarmacphysics.

And please dont float away with the ideas, ice surface is not rallycross, and this is a rallycross suggestion thread.

Quote from deggis :You heard about CSR? You can already do a gravel rattling sound, though it will play all the time because the mod can't know on what kind of surface the car is going.

edit: seems that you can't, in CSR you can add a road noise but it seems to depend on the car speed when the sound starts to play louder.

yeah i know. But still a rattling sound connected with what surface u race on is the best i think.

Quote from Jamexing :Why not just toughen up the course a bit more (more/larger bumps and more corners) and add some real 4WDs for some off-road racing then? Oh wait, we need proper rallycars and rally raid (Paris Dakar Rally) style cars first for that to work.

But there is no off-road track or car atm. So why dont stick to what we have and update that first.

Quote from Adamboston :get some water crossings too in it proper rally cross then

In real rallycross there is no water crossings...so why?

@ LFSn00b
I mean a a rebuild layout, not add any objects on a existing layout. Thats just takes a lot of FPS. I want an indicator that see if u have taken the joker lap when u have finished the race, or else u get disqualified. (Just like pitstop required)

Quote from KillerMonkey :+1 To all your suggestions. Joker lap sounds like it will be great for spicing up a race

Yeah, the joker lap is a cool way to have exiting races that lasts all the way through the whole event.

no, not over the sand i BL2R. It should still be gravel, just a different way than original track, could be longer or shorter than the original.

Suggestion for rallycross section in LFS

Gravel biased track:
As things are as present, the hybrid tyre is the dominate one on all rallycross tracks. It has much better grip on the tarmac than the knobbly and coz of that it’s outstanding. A track with mostly gravel would generate that more drivers choose the knobbly tyre, which can go very fast on the gravel parts.

Joker lap
This is used in Real European Rallycross Championship on many tracks. A joker lap means that you have to go a different way than the original track layout one time/ race. That’s to generate exiting and tactical races. The race isn’t over just because someone takes the start. The drivers behind could choose to take the joker lap early or late and try to close the gap and maybe pass because of the joker lap. This often makes the fastest guy around the track to win, instead of having a bad start and get blocked behind the leader.
Example: http://www.toveksracing.se/bilder/JokerLap2.gif The red part is the joker way, it can be a short cut too.

Gravel rattling sound
It should be very nice with some gravel rattling when driving on the gravel.
I did a poor test on that:

Fix the contact bug
I don’t know so much what causes these thing, but it’s obvious that if you have contact with another car (door to door for ex.), it kind of push away one of the cars, that often spins or get damage as result. And as rallycross is a close combat sport, you can see that bug quite often.

Some specialised Rallycross car, with better suspension.
As the update for S2 came, it included updated Race-specialised tarmac-cars, like GTRs and Formula cars. They had improved downforce, faster engines, slick tires etc. And because LFS now had fast and improved race cars, they added some new high speed tracks that should fit the cars in a better way.

I wanna see the same thing happen to Rallycross. Some Rallycross-specialised cars with improved suspension and higher torque, because acceleration is a keyword in Rallycross. The Divison 1 cars in European Rallycross Championship have acceleration from 0-100 in about 2-2.5 sec. That’s quite far away from the RB4 that comes closest to the DIV 1 cars as it is today. The RB4 has 4wd and turbo, but 241 hp and 319 Nm is quite slow to compare with a DIV 1 car with about 500 hp and amazing 700 ++ in Nm.

Quote from sinbad :But most real-life rallycross is like that. If you look at the tyres that rallycross cars are fitted with, you'll find that they are a long way from the gravel-focused "knobbly" tyres which they use in gravel rally events. The fact is that most rallycross circuits have a lot of tarmac on them. There's nothing wrong with the LFS circuit design.

I dont say its wrong, i just wanted a gravelbiased track for complement and variety. The other way to go is to delete the knobbly tires, coz now they are not so usable.

Quote from Bawbag :
But yes rallying has dropped off and it should come back, but the stupid contacts in LFS ruin it, RallyX has the most contact yet when it happens in LFS something stupid happens. I think this has somehting to do with the decrease in Rally servers too.

Yes, thats correct. If u have contact with another car, it kinda catapult you away in an unrealistic way. Thats kinda sad, coz it could be so much fun without it.

Quote from Jamexing :
There's simply NOWHERE in LFS to use the knobbly tires at all. The knobblys are supposed to dominate the non tarmac surfaces, but there's no rallycross circuit now that's heavily gravel and dirt biased. Nowhere to prove their worth.

I totally agree with you. It should be a Gravel biased track or ever a track with only gravel, so the Knobbly tires can be used somewhere. No one using them on the existing tracks.

Quote from felplacerad :there are rally servers.

I count 10 servers running rally configs, all empty.

it's up to the players, really.

Yeah, but the thing is it was more rallyX-servers with people racing before. They have dropped of successive. And why?

I think those 3 layouts + reversed are a little bit too few to attract people to race constantly on those combos. Its simple to see that the devs have made Rallycross a small part of LFS , and therefor not so many rallycross drivers. Ive seen many "former" RallyX-racers becoming Tarmac-racers just because there is more ppl racing on those servers, and coz it has more to offer (cars and track combos).

But i think the rallyX-part of LFS will grow if there is some "update" coming. Rallycross havent after all been updated with new tracks since S1, and dont have a single Rallycross-optimized car. But its up to the devs, what they plan in the future of LFS. I can just hope an update will come some day, and i think it will do

Quote from Jamexing :I ask for a rally RB4 of the same specifications as I've previously mentioned accept for 3 parameters:

Engine: 2.5L I4 Turbocharged, Intercooled.
Power:450hp
Torque: 580nm

Not quite group B level (600+hp!), but enough to do similiarly fast times on twisty and narrow rally tracks. Simulate a variable vane turbo to virtually eliminate lag and generate beautifully fat powerbands.

Why dont have a Rallycross car that is similar to the Division 1 class in Real RallyX(the fastest class). Cause LFS already have a RallyX-part build up and some update on that should be necessary. And why dont make an update with cars that are similar to real rallyx cars. With good susp. physics etc. There is 3 main Divisons in rallyx; DIV 1, DIV 2, and Supernational class.

DIV 1 cars spec.

2 litre turbocharge engine
Weight: about 1000-1200 kg
Torque: about 750 Nm!!
Horsepower: 500-600 hp
4WD
0-100km/h in about 2,5 sec.

DIV 2 car spec.
Production Cars
2WD up to 2000ccm
2 litres standardcars without turbo.
Many restrictions on modifications
200hp
0-100 km/h: 6 sec.

Supernational class

About 350-400hp.
2wd (most cars have RWD)
3 litre engine
0-100 km/h 4,5 sec
