Quote from tommer :Hey, I just wanted to pop in to say I was playing with the updated layout editor today.

I have mixed feedback. I will start with negatives so I can end on positives:-

# Negatives

## A. Fine tuning the height of objects is problematic

Why:

1. When an object is placed with o key, the X, Y and Z controls are not available.
2. Pressing PgUp, PgDown causes the object to deselect and create a new object unexpectedly. You then need to delete the other object.

## B. Selection States are confusing

Why:

When an object is placed with o, it is highlighted as though it is selected, however the move controls are not activated. The movement controls only appear when you click the object, which changes the selection color..?

## C. Losing selection when pressing space is not favorable

Why:

In the new editor, the screen can be crowded with 'Selection hints'. A creator like myself who wants to edit a layout will press Space just to see how the layout looks.

Before hand, when you pressed space again, your selection would be kept and you could resume. Now you cannot and it consumes time to get your selection back again.

Fixes:

1. Unless you can explain a tangible benefit why objects are no longer selected when placed, I suggest undoing this change, and automatically selecting the object when it is placed, like before.

2. Do not forget selections when pressing space - We use this just to see our layout without the visual clutter briefly - not to stop editing.

Okay, that's all my criticism.

# Positives

## The new selection boxes are good.

Keep them because before it could get really confusing to know what you had selected when there are just blue dots and often you would select the wrong thing without knowing.

## The keyboard shortcuts are good

I appreciate being able to raise and lower objects with pgup/pgdown.

Ctrl Z + Y is greatly appreciated too.

I think I'll keep an old copy of LFS around for layout editing now, because the object selection thing is actually a show stopper for someone like me as it significantly increases the amount of fiddling required to get objects into the right position. I really hope you can do something about that.

Have a good one,

Tommer

Couldn't have said it any better. I'm also using an older version of LFS only because of the layout editor, which I always found it much easier and quicker to use. I've really tried to get used to the new editor but I simply can't.

Well I hope you're more lucky next year. I've made multiple rule changes, such as Top 10 will gain points now instead of Top 8 and if you roll your car, you get another chance to continue the rally.

Here's the Group Photo we take after every season.

Black Rocket Rally is over. 36 cars in total and 3 of them were driving for the first time.

Group-F
Gevin Peet extends his lead to 11 Points. This means that Aatu Viljakainen is out of the championship battle and the battle is now between The 2-Time champion and the Challenger, Eetu Marjamäki. No changes in Team Points.

Juniors
Not many changes in the points here. Pieter Soetaert moves from 7th to 6th. Top 7 will likely drive XRT next year. Big maybe for 8th & 9th.

Next Rally is Lapua Rally. 17.10.2018!

Another successful event is in the bag.

This has to be the tightest rally there's ever been. Under 1 second differences in both classes and congratulations to Gevin Peet & Mikael Gelin for their respectable victories.

I can now also pretty much confirm that the current Top 5 Junior drivers will be seen driving XRT's next year.

FINNCUP GOES TO SUMMER VACATION

This was something I never planned to do, but it might be for the best to all of us. I was left behind with my upcoming layout project schedule and the new LFS 0.6T update just got released with a new layout editor which caused me a lot of problems to get used to, meaning I can't finish the layouts in time. Instead of rushing and choosing poorly built layouts, I've decided to move AutoGlym Rally to somewhere in November so I can provide you high-quality layouts for the rest of the season.

I deeply apologize but I'm sure you all understand. Enjoy the summer, it's not going to last forever.

ALT key can be used to temporarily hide selected object outlines

I know, That's why I suggested that it could be toggled to hide it permanently instead of temporarily.

Am I the only one who finds the Layout editor extremely difficult to use? I've noticed few things when trying to build one.

- Can't zoom while choosing multiple objects
- The gray object line is blocking the view when placing another object (I would suggest that a button toggles it on or off instead of holding alt for a moment)
- Objects are invisible when clicking an object already placed on the ground
- Floating objects are also more difficult to place correctly

Might take a while to get used to all this, I just prefer the old layout editor.

I have to say there are few positive things about it as well, For example:
- When holding ctrl you can choose objects just like shortcuts on your desktop
- Undo & Redo
- Marshall circles can be now 0 meters.

We're now half-way through the Season. 5 Events are behind and there has been a minor rule addition due to lack of drivers in the Group-F Class.

NEW RULE:
- If a Group-F driver fails to collect any points during the season, the driver will drop to Junior class automatically.

Next Event is Pohjanmaa Rally, 13.6.2018.
