Too much electronics for me imo, I'd look into an e34 if I were you. Also hit or miss when it comes to reliability. Coming from someone who works on mostly bmw.
Actually no, e30's have the worst designed sumps ever IMO, they sit far lower than the subframe. And when you put in a 24v motor from an e36 or so on they tend to sit even lower. I have about 6 inches clearance, and I'm not even "low". If you look straight under, you can see that my sump sits lower than the front lip
So you rather have your friends think you have a small penis for buying a 2 seater, mid engine sports car? Aren't you a bit young to be going through a mid life crisis
Every car you listed(not counting the civic) has a pretty decent amount of major flaws.
Yes I have driven a Benz, I actually owned SEVERAL. The best automatics to that I know of. I also work at a shop so I speak with experience. E46 isn't the only one with tranny issues, e30's are known to blow trannies without trouble. I rarely see a benz blow a tranny when properly maintained.
seriously? Mercedes makes the best automatics ever, their manual gearboxes are rubbish, spongey and rubbery feeling at best. A BMW automatic is horrible, there's a reason why they explode.
I agree, I see nothing wrong with diesels, they have plenty of power for the US, especially for the amount of traffic around here. The low end is perfect for New York. We hate on Diesels but we drive hybrids that cost an arm and a leg and barely get 40mpg. One thing these manufacturers aren't telling us is how much fuel is used to make the hybrid batteries and such."The amount of energy that is needed to produce the battery for a Prius is equivalent to driving a Hummer H2 for 300,000 miles!"
a 2.7l? seriously, your telling me to downgrade to a motor that was designed in the 70's, SOHC, a terribly flowing head, low compression ratio that only makes 129hp and revs to 4500rpm? I had an 86 325e before and it was a complete turd, especially with an automatic. BTW, this isn't a standard m50, it's a 2.8l m50. 11:1 CR. It's going to be making about 200whp, pretty close to what a stock US s5x makes. And it's rather easy nowadays to find a euro s50, just with a hefty price tag.
