Quote from kamkorPL :Hi,

So this discussion oryginally started in another thread, but I think it's very important and everyone will benefit from it.

Currently street cars in lfs are very adjustable - we can mod many things in the suspension, adjust brakes, change gears etc.

But in real life if I was going that far with my street car, the first thing I would do is get rid of the interior and all the weighty parts in it. We use LFS cars on tracks, not on "streets" going shopping etc. We dont need 5 seats.

So suggestion is :

Make two options in lfs for street cars:

1) Stock interior.
2) Ripped off interior with just 1 driver bucket seat and other things modified inside so the car is lighter.

Fair Comment! Although the cars that are limited to street type tires should be left alone.

Quote from shiny_red_cobra :Don't worry, LFS will not alienate anyone. I'm sure there is a reason why you, me, and thousands of other people come here on a regular basis: because we love this game. When you love a game, you won't stop loving it cause of some minor changes such as no throttle blip. Anyone who loves this game would learn to play the game in a new way to account for these changes. And anyone who doesn't want to change their ways, but who want to complain, don't deserve sympathy from anyone here, especially the devs.

Scawen started this LFS project to try to make the most realistic racing simulator possible. People liked it, and still do, because it is more difficult and realistic than other (arcade) games on the market.

Well it just got even more difficult. People who like this game will adapt, and people who don't like it will find something easier. But I don't think we will lose people, as this is by far the best racing game out there, and anyone who goes from this to NFS will be back here in a heartbeat.

This is the game now. Learn to play it, or .

You talk about alienation yet you seem to accept no negative or constructive criticism with regard to the latest "Test" patch!

"Test patch" for the end user means, play it and let us know about bugs and problems etc. For the DEVS it would mean that as well. Another thing they will be looking for is consumer reaction. This is so important in more ways than I wish to mention now.

Of course there are "Die Hard" realism fans in the LFS community that welcome the new changes. I do to... although its taken some getting used too! But there are people out there like the drifters and cruisers or even the not so serious racer who may not like the new changes.

Although LFS has a desire to produce the ultimate sim they still have to cater for those that have spent their money on LFS, wheels, hardware upgrades and internet connectivity! They are LFS customers and they need to be treated like one! Not dragged over the coals by other racers and told to adapt or find something else to play! People all over the world have invested in millions of dollars to use LFS and will continue to do so.

Show some respect!

As I have mentioned in a previous post, they should leave all the settings there, make it host controllable!

Quote from shiny_red_cobra :They're not coming back, get over it. We have to learn to adapt to the game as it changes over time, not whine about it getting harder and harder. :twocents:

Firstly, I wasn't whining! Just mentioning how unnatural it feels. I will adapt and get used to it, I have no choice! Its a matter of evolution!
Bring back throttle CUT and BLIP
kingfishersa

Although i really like the new version, I think the removal of the cut and blip settings puts 'non clutch controller' racers, at a disadvantage! If you drive a manual car in real life, it's a very natural thing to lift off, press clutch, change gear and on the throttle again. Its a timing thing! You have been conditioned through driving in 'real life' to perform this task with absolute precision. The way LFS is now is totally unnatural if you have a two pedal controller. It doesn't feel right to tap off without engaging a clutch when changing gear. Its quite frustrating.

I'm not a quick racer by anyone's standards, but I enjoy the excitement of being in a race and doing the best I can. With the removal of these settings, things have gotten a whole lot more difficult!

Anyway, my suggestion is, put the settings back, but controllable by the host. That way the servers and racers that want absolute realism (and when I can afford a G25, I'll join you) can set it. Other servers that are not so strict can allow it. Its a fair compromise.

Quote from revo :hey all i know most of you recommend the wheel/pedals but are the handheld controllers like a ps2 controller any better then using the mouse?

right now im using the mouse for steering and keys for gas/brake etc..

i play on a laptop and the wheel is out of the question for me.. dont wanna spend the cash and it wouldnt work cause half the time im playing im lieing down HA..

anyhow my question is.. am i better off getting a controller (recommendations please) or keep practicing with my mouse and keyboard?

thanks

Get a wheel if you can afford it! It will improve your lap times, racing line, passing and defending as well as being a whole load more fun!

Quote from xaotik :WD40 is safe to use. If it's plastic (and thus possibly but not necessarily a polycarbonate plastic) it might make the plastic brittle in 10-15 years if you spray it every day for the next year. Generally a little "psst" in the right place will do the job, ask any dealer.

I would hardly remember to do it once a month!

So that means it will last till i die, Whooopeeeee! no more buying pedals!!!!

Quote from GTR_Yuni :I plan on getting a wheel soon. Problem is my dad is trying to convince me to buy something else which would probably last me only a week (Xbox360 or PS3...), and I don't like playing on consoles anymore. He says he'll not spend more than 100 USD [on a wheel and pedals set], but I'm not all that willing to settle on a Momo Racing wheel...

So here's what I'm looking for :
- UNDER 120 USD
- Will last me a long time
- Quick and easy setup
- Responds to steering and throttle inputs quickly
- May or may not have force feedback
- Has greater than 270 degrees of lock

DONT - get a momo, waste of money! I know!!!

Look for a second hand Rev.B DFP in good condition.

I just picked one up in excellent condition for R 550.00 ZAR works out to about $60

Quote from mrodgers :It is a slang term for the cannabis plant. Cannabis, also known as marijuana or ganja, is a psychoactive product of the plant Cannabis sativa. The herbal form of the drug consists of dried mature flowers and subtending leaves of pistillate ("female") plants. The resinous form, known as hashish consists primarily of glandular trichomes collected from the same plant material.

Pot has 2 relations to LFS. First, some racers will smoke pot (cannabis) before logging onto the LFS servers. It can feel like quite a rush satisfying the mind in thinking they are actually driving a relatively fast car while high.

The other relation to LFS is, pot is the abbreviated name for potentiometer. Potentiometers are resistors that have an adjustable value. Your Joystick/gamepad/wheel axis is mechanically attached to the pot, thus changing the resistance as you move the axis. This is interpreted by your game controller software/drivers to an input in a computer game.

Hope that clears it up a bit.

I like you! btw it's known as Skuif and Dagga in SA

Quote from Jakg :After buying some new pedals for my Momo, i am selling the old one, they spike, but are in good nick, and work (except for the spiking!), as such i don't expect much, however the pots could be removed from them and could be quite useful, so there's still life in the old dog yet!

PM me if interested!

I'll take the pots if you don't mind taking them out and posting them to South Africa.
Accelerator and Brake Pots Needed

Well I called Logitech South Africa for some spare pots for a Momo pedal set. Well, needless to say, they simply don't offer spares in SA! Great! Way to go logitech! Anyway, where can I source these pots where the supplier will be able to send them to me. Or could anyone send me the stuff and I'll just do a transfer into your bank account.
Glue the Pots!

Quote from Fordman :Cheers Mr Rodgers. I used to do the paper thing as well, but found that the pots, popped out, usually in a league race. I heard of gluing them, but I also wanted to be able to replace them when they went wrong, thats when I thought of Blue Tack.

If you spot glue them just above the ball(that pops into the holder) then they remain seated superbly and yet are easy just to pop off. Also I use Tamiya MOLYBDENUM grease. Its mainly used for gears on motors and stuff but it keeps it's consistancy and coverage and works well for the pedals!
