Quote from [RCG]Boosted :well the the 205 i had, had a blown head gasket, a not working fan and some other problems...but that was due to failure to check the car properly before buying.
the car never let me down even tho i didnt always treat it nicely (redlining, throwing around bends, gravelroads ect).
not to meantion, i never fixed any of those issues...no money :P
ran fine till i sold it.
so imo its quite reliable.

Mine had a manual choke (with a broken lever lol) and carb was a bit broken, so it was a bit tricky to start and drive it, but once I figured that out the car was a blast. When I sold it, the guy who bought it couldn't even drive it, so I started the car for him and spent half an hour explaining stuff. He still stalled 5 times on his way out of my yard. Two hours later I received a call from him, he brought a car home, and couldn't start it anymore .

Quote from [RCG]Boosted :thats dirt cheap...it costs me (pretty much any car) 1500€ to insure a car.
well that dropped to 1100€ now that ive passed my 2 years of probation time.
im 30 btw...age doesnt really matter in that case here.

and tbo u should really look at something small for a start...most important is that it drives or?
i started out with a pug 205...no powersteering, just 60 hp but a fun little car.

Aw yeah, I owned a 205 for a week. Really fun thing to bash around, only that 1.1 engine was too weak. If I'd buy another I'd save up and get a 1.6Gti or 1.9Gti (pocket rocket). I wonder if they are reliable, but they don't get good fuel economy for a car that size at all!

Maybe an escort estate? They seem to be cheap, fuel efficient and roomy enough inside. I'm not sure about the insurance tho, in my country situation is normal, so I considered getting one, as they are really cheap. Then finish it and throw it out.

I'd buy a Fiesta MK3 diesel. Costs cents to run, and you don't have to worry about breaking down, as you could just buy another one for like 100 pounds.

Why not Up? It's funny!

Quote from thisnameistaken :In terms of interior space it's pretty clever though. Shame about the way the rear door opens, that's a bit silly. And that's what has put me off - I'm always having to park in tight spots and not being able to open the rear door would make it a pointless car to own.

If it was a normal rear hatch I might have bought one. As it stands I think I'm still looking for a 1.6 Focus.

Can't that be an optional feature? Like it is in VW Caddy for example? I personally like these doors more than standart, because I always bang my head against open hatch door. I'm a bit clumsy. But yeah, it's a bitch in tight spots.

Edit: Nope, only the newer version has normal door.

Quote from Bose321 :That doesn't make sense because the BMW's have changed while the iPhone didn't.

And BMWs changed for worse, meanwhile an iPhone simply couldn't be any worse.

Quote from [RF]-art555 :My daily car

Yes, it's a Lada. 2108' 1987, made in USSR!
The photo is quite old, it now has fog lights attached and new tyres.

If you'll look closely you may notice that fron and rear rims are different Was bought this way, and believe it or not, the front rims are Momo's 13''. I was trying to find a pair of the same rims, but failed.

A set of winter studded tires are on steelies.

Replaced original front seats for Toyota Celica's seats and sportish small steering wheel. The original wheel is pretty big and it touches my legs while driving, so the new wheel was a necessary measure.

First car is just like a first love, you'll never forget it.

Actually, it isn't that bad, the only things that I don't like with this car is that its noisy and eats quite a lot of petrol.

It drives great in snow, the road clearance is about 20cm front and 25cm rear (yeah, it is raised) as well as studded tires make a great little SUV from it

What kind of engine? I hear these were pretty quick compared to classic RWD ladas.

Noticed that before, but it still doesn't look good. In the videos, cars appear to be somehow wrong.

Engine works with major damage, and you say Lada is bad?

Won't work if he's already fat. That, and often security guys (or gals) like to touch people. They'll probably find it.

Quote from flymike91 :Some satellites have failed because of solar flares. An enormous solar storm will hit the earth again as certainly as someday we will be hit by a large asteroid or the Yellowstone volcano will erupt. All you can do is prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

A Faraday cage is a good idea, the question is whether or not we will have enough advanced warning to put our electronics in them. I would put in a two way radio, geiger counter and laptop. If you converted your garage into a large cage you could be the only one around with a working car.

Just buy an old diesel car and park it on the hill. That's it, you're prepared. I wonder, if wrapping small items in aluminum foil will protect them?
