Quote from Hankstar's link :The most common form of synesthesia (at least the one most widely studied) is grapheme / number to color. Graphemes (letters of the alphabet) or numbers visually presented in black typeface can initiate the experience of colour.

Every time I see the number 990000 all I see is colour red... am I synesthesic?

Quote from Blackout :I stay away from evil electrical forklifts tonight, gas powered are not like that are they? Right? :P

They are even worse, their engines are more powerful and hence faster and they are heavier and CoG is considerably higher. Believe me, it's not funny feeling driving on 2 wheels with such contraption or sliding towards pallets in a non-heated warehouse floor full of frost

Ed: Also I can tell you would-be-forklift-drivers one thing the video neglected to tell, watch the surface you're driving on, if a banana or tomato or something likewise slippery thingy goes under the the lone steering rear wheel in a 3 wheel forklift, close your eyes and hope for the best

Quote from MagicFr :so we'll need a button "show dashboard" , like in reality when you stop looking road for a fraction of seconde to watch dashboard to check engine revs/ speed.

I don't know in what reality you are but in my reality I don't press any buttons to see revs/speed

Quote from deggis :But the steering wheel system looks amazing, I wonder could Ecci 3000 etc. "pro" wheels do the same strenght. He seems to be doing more "wheel sawing" than drivers do in real life onboard videos Very convincing.

Look again particularly when he goes off to the grass, that's force feedback not steering movements. "damped steering was superior" my ass.

Quote from lalathegreat :I actually don't think that those simulators are Substantially better than what we have today. Most people who test and talk about them don't play video games. So there gonna praise it for its realism even though it might not be significantly better. i would reserve judgment until i got the full specs of the their engine. i would love to see a comparison between Reality Commercial Sim and an F1 sim

If they feel they can do testing of any kind and bring the results to the real world, I'd hazard to say it's way more detailed and realistic than anything you can buy at Gamestop.

Quote from Woz :I agree with the view locking and feel it is a good thing but I think it should be so you are restricted that the view must be inside the car. The reason for this is simple...

When things like visible windscreens that can get damaged and so effect visibility you will see forced view come in on most servers to stop people using views that mean you do not suffer the disadvantage. The Auto X need is already clear and shows why the locking is required and more and more reason will in the end make this a regular fixture on servers.

This is the reason NR2003 has hardcore mode where view and graphical detail are locked to give an even playing field. I believe the NR2003 hardcore mode also locks FOV at 65 but I think that is a step too far.

Chase view has BIG advantages over the other views because you are high up so you see further in front and over cars in front of you.

I notice that people are already saying the realism is getting in the way of their enjoyment but LFS has always been hardcore and it has been stated many time that it will get more hardcore because this is the direction the devs want to take it. Recent changes like no reset have highlighted this.

I'll just bumb this post, since everybody seems to have missed/ignored it. Granted we don't yet have shattering windscreens and smoke/dust from the cars only mildly obstruct the view. But I'm fairly sure (hope anyway) by S3 we have them.

Quote from Jakg :...or Seagate, or in fact anything but a Maxtor!

I don't know what people have against Maxtor, I have 3 Maxtors currently 2 160Gb (5200&7200) and 20Gb that is already 7 years old and has been lugged around with and without external casing for the most of its life. And I haven't had single problem with them

Finally forced cockpit view! Now only forced default set and we're set

Quote from eRaptor :Do you find usefull a server option that allows to:

- Force FF wheel controller
- Force 90º FOV
- Force wheel turn compensation 0.5
- Force H shifter

Yes I find it useful even though currently I couldn't join that server because I don't have a H-shifter yet. I'd even add mandatory usage of multiturn wheel and that you use the same degrees as the car has. It irks me to no end that I have use low degrees to stay competitive on my DFP.

Quote :People must be allowed to drive with the view and other options they want! Only that way you assure equality among them, otherwise people already used to the forced options will have a huge advantage!

You can drive with the view and options you want, only not on those servers where the admin wants to set rules otherwise. You want to make the rules or have no rules, start your own server.

It's not that hard to get used to other driving view, it's much eaiser than getting used to a new wheel. Believe me, I did that couple years ago.

Quote from Batterypark : it's not as if i would see two steering wheels and two pairs of hands etc when driving a real car...

Then disable the hands and the steering wheel

LFS works in Widescreen (1680x1050x32) mode perfectly

Wolfenstein 3D: Enemy Territory has pretty awful flickering in widescreen resolutions in some maps. They go away when I switch to 1024x768 or 1280x1024.

Sometimes while browsing the Interwebs, the screen goes black just like it would go to in "the blank screensaver" for a second or two. (I haven't reinstalled Windows in 18 Months. But still., I'm not a computer-dimwit, that's the only prob in my computer ATM. I just haven't found the cause of it yet...) Somehow I think it's related to Macromedia Flash.

I've also brielfly used the Samsung 226BW, it's pretty much the same as 225BW except it has screen tilt feature and the screen bevels are bit more "Vista-looking" (i.e., flashy and shiny). Other than that, it seems to be the same as the 225BW. Frankly speaking, if you have the cash... get the 226BW

Quote from LFSn00b :So i reformatted my computer, deleted everything this has, 3GB of music gone :'(

And now it works :|

That's way I always make a 20GB or so partition for the Windows and the remaining space for Linux Distroes, my documents etc. And then change Opera and Thunderbird profiles to non-windows partition. That way you don't lose that much data.

Quote from col :Most Games OTOH that contain violence make no attempt whatsoever to provide a meaningful context for the violence they contain - it is in many cases the only point!

It sort of had a justification, the main character was saving his wife from the evil sadist or something... can't remember too well, it's been like 1½ years since I played Manhunt 1 through.

Since they banned Manhunt in UK, why the hell they still allow Saw trilogy and Cannibal Holocaust etc sick movies?

Ed: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manhunt_%28video_game%29#Plot Guess I remembered wrong or he had 'a thing' with the reporter or something...
