I'm not sure if this was already mentioned in the topic, but is surely my favourite video to get me emoted about the game.

Well, forgetting your password everytime is not something that Steam would solve, it's a thing decided in your mind. Not a single service will remind you of your password and yes it takes time to reset it. Happens, care more next time.

On the other hand, in my new PC I don't even have an optical drive, so having steam and such is the only option for me to have legitimate games. I have a Call of Duty 4 retail box but all I can do is wipe my ass with the Guide book included now. I wish I could swap it for a Steam version, or at least use the code with Steam.

Quote from Jens O. :kraniwani's 'still.lfs' - still one of my favorites :lovies3d:

a few more vids that crossed my mind:

LFS Promo MOVIE
Out of Control by kamkor, I think?!
Live for Speed S2 - Szwei by kraniwani

Agreed on still.lfs. That music always brings a few tears into my eyes when watching that video. It's just too amazing.

Ruf Cup requires D4.0 or up. I think GT3 has more attendees, but of course higher competition. You really need some practice to jump into that, although it's mostly a RUF Track league rather than multicar. You can face some pretty nice people in RUF Cup aswell, the races are kinda close in there too. Or you can of course race both if you have both cars.

I'd say both, if you have to choose then go for RUF.

I might be braindamaged, but the time I subbed to iR in this year and bought the RUF along with a few tracks, I opened a practice session with the RUF Track @ Suzuka and the way the car gripped into the first turn gave me chills and Assetto Corsa-like joy when I first tried the game with the E30. Somehow the less-filtered FFB in there complements the lack of actual feeling when it comes to attacking a corner and going past the limit isn't that bad as I remembered it would be around 2011 when I first tried the game. I could probably drift a whole lap on the track in the RUF or the MX5 if I wanted, although it doesn't mean I am over the limit, cause that would be drifting of course, but sliding in or out of turns while lapping isn't a fuss really.

About opening your wallet into your hobby, hmm... I'm trying to find the proper example on this, but I'm struggling. Well, if you choose tennis as a hobby, you probably won't buy a tennis racket for $600 in the first place, but rather building up... in either small or big steps. Or for me, I started playing guitar without even knowing I would success or fail at it miserably and I wanted to learn it all alone, so there was an even less known chance of my performance. Therefore, I got a guitar for like $80 which got me going and I could decide if I was enthusiastic enough to continue. Now I have 3 guitars incl. the first one, and well... the other two cost numerous time the initial one.
I'm not saying you should give up your living for your hobby, I'm talking in spare money. Food is still more important than driving around Suzuka in a virtual car, but that doesn't mean you can't let yourself go and spend your spare money on something that takes your free time and makes it a blast.

Well, I wouldn't even give my try at discussing iRacing with dawedust cause all he seems to do is ranting on how bad it is, everywhere. I'm glad he didn't invade the iR topic yet since his comeback though.

I see that simracing itself isn't a cheap hobby to begin with, especially not if you choose iRacing as your platform but it's not really that expensive at all when using your brain at the Checkout and Cart. Buying the right tracks and cars would've probably saved around 1/2 of that money that feel wasted.

I also feel that it's still tons of money for a game, but on the other hand I am an enthusiastic person towards my hobby and I love the spirit of racing, therefore I would pay nearly any ammount for a game that can give me the joy that LFS gave me 4-5 years ago which is competition. Pure racing, with cars close to your pace with constant action. When subscribing to iR again recently, I felt something in my first race that I didn't for the past 3 years for sure... That is the shake in my legs when chasing an opponent through laps. I'd pay a lot for that feeling of joy.

I also have Assetto Corsa which still awaits a Multiplayer in my mind, because hotlapping is a lackluster for me.

I used to be into the F1 thing, but I'm not sure if I can get used to that speed and immersion the car gives over every other car in iRacing. Swapping from RUF Track/Cup into that thing would be a blast for sure. I think training can solve everything though. I might go for it in S2 of 2014 I guess.

What is the black stripe thingy? It's the series between DWC and Class A?
Kristi

I don't think I'd have problem concentrating for that ammount of time in a quick car after decent ammount of practice. I'm rather concerned about the skill levels in those Class A series races. I seriously mean I'm disappointed with people I've been matched with that had A licence and 4.5-5k iRating, but of course that's in the RUF Cspec. I'm wondering how does that relate to the Class A Williams cup.

Quote from PMD9409 :Nah, I think many do that. If you don't plan on driving the F1 car, why have an A class license?

I was thinking about jumping up to Class A and starting the FW, but it seems to be extremely fast and I'm afraid I would be just a backmarker. How hard is it to jump into that league? What are the "proes"? How can you even reach Pro licence?

I was hesitating between 1150 and 1155 when buying a new PC, and ended up getting an 1150 socket, but my option for the 1155 would've been ASROCK Z77 Pro4 or any Asus Z77 chipset motherboard. I hope that helps anything.

Wasn't really going for an insult, just wondering how on Earth you were trying to make that comparison.

Personally, iRating doesn't mean all that much at that low of a level. Gaining iRating in D class would probably be easier than gaining in rookie, as the chances of you being taken out have dropped some. You can start from the pits and still either gain iRating or remain the same. In most rookie races you'll have drivers dropping like rocks, allowing you to gain positions. It only takes four races I believe and you can be out of rookie, so why not take that opportunity, evening out your iRating as your worst possible outcome and just move to D? If you believe you won't be gaining iRating at D class level, then it isn't entirely other cars to blame.

When quite a few of my team mates were moving from LFS to iRacing, they went from Rookie to A class in 3-4 days, only buying the Star Mazda outside of the F1 car. They got out of rookie ASAP, and then gained all their iRating using the Star Mazda so they could reach the top split races in F1 by the next weekend. Trying to juice everything out of the rookie class just isn't worth it in the end.

So I guess I'm the only LFSer that doesn't mind sitting on high-Class C and being matchmaked with Class A drivers, because I'm interested in the RUF Cup anyway. I thought about going up to Class A just for the F1 league, but meh... I don't think I can do anything significiant there.

I think they took that workaround out in one of the early patches. They said DX10.1 was required for proper function of the game, therefore blocking any exploits.

I'm not sure what the problem with Steam is. I was swearing my pants off when I saw AC got greenlight on Steam last summer and now I'm grateful for the automatic updates, quick fixes, instant reach. Steam has evolved a lot in the past 5 or so years since I used it before AC. It's nothing like the old, crappy service.

You do have a hidden iRating in the Rookie class, and that's why I started at around 2500 iR when out of there. It's not a bad idea to race others there, it's not that dangerous.

Replay of a 1.41.9 (T125@Nurburgring). Scrappy first sector...2 more tenths in it for sure.

Still down for me.

Yea, RSR or didn't happen doesn't work now. Ofc my time isn't on RSR for the same reason. I'll try that setup from RD though. I'm curious.

EDIT : 1.42.8 with tons of fail in the last sector. I see it there.

I'm not sure how those guys are hitting 1.42s. I got an 1.44.2xx and I can't imagine going lower than 1.43.8xx. Maybe it's a lot on the setup though.

I'm not sure if you are comparing it to other simulators or taking reference from real life (I can't do that sadly) but for example in iRacing the curbs upset the car aswell (in Silverstone especially). I think LFS doesn't really have curbs simulated too well, they are just a bit less grippy parts of asphalt, at least that's how I feel about them. AC curbs really feel like they need some improvement though, especially the curbs on Mugello I think. Someone must've made them drunk.
