End of year MRT Cup to bring back OWRL's S1 roots

On the third day of Christmas, the Open Wheel Racing League gave to me… a new edition of the OWRL MRT cup! Starting 27 December, the annual tradition starts at Blackwood GP using a special layout. The drivers will content for the coveted MRT Cup over three rounds. This year the full competition can be driven with a S1 license. The other two tracks we will race at are South City Chicane and Fern Bay Gold rev.

The OWRL, which started in 2004 as a MRT only league, goes back to its early days. At the same time with the final race at 3 January 2010 we will make the bridge from the old to new and look forward to the exciting events the new year will bring us.

To signup, simply go to the upcoming events on the top hand right and register for the events you participate in. Make sure you drive a pb or upload a hotlap before signup deadline (3 hours before the race).

For the race at Blackwood we will use a layout that adds a chicane on the long straight and alters the penultimate corner. The layout will be installed on our training server and will be available for download on our site, both over the next few days.

Raptor|Chris, [SR] FireDragon S2 Season 15 champions

RAPTOR | Chris wins OWRL Div A title in dominating fashion

OWRL S2 Season 15 has delivered two first-time champions in the OWRL. RAPTOR | Chris scored 4 victories on way to the Div A title and [SR] FireDragon went for glory in Div B by finishing in the top 2 almost every race he took part in. Both division A and B finished in such way that in both series the winning driver could afford to miss the final event of the season and still come out on top of the standings. Whereas FireDragon already got the title after five rounds, Chris´ his teammate Intre still had a mathematical chance until after the final race of the season. We take a look athow both championships came to be.

Divison A
In the Formula V8 division, Chris started the season strong. Qualifying on pole for the first race at Blackwood, he drove away from the field and as the rest seemed to fade in the distant, he just kept driving consistent fast laps. Second and third were FPR Matze and ALSTR[RUS], the only drivers to stay just within a minute of the race winner. No such gap at race 2. Chris again qualified on pole and had a good run up until after the round of pitstops, when Intre quickly closed in on Chris. However, the race at Kyoto GP long just wasn’t long enough for Intre as he got close to Chris only in the final lap, finishing 0.43 seconds behind his teammate. Matze finished third and moved up to second in the championship. Onto race three for even longer lap times at Fern Bay Black. Intre wasn’t bothered by a chat penalty, as even with the 5 second penalty he was 20 seconds clear of the rest. With Chris missing out on this event, Matze could have taken over the championship lead if he had finished second. He didn’t and had to leave the second place for a brilliant performance by pod.hama Pio. Matze’s third place was enough to draw even, but Intre still had the lead by having more wins.

On to the second part of the season. OWRL opened up the rules for entry in Div A, allowing for bigger starting fields. At Westhill International (race 4) this immediately led to the best race of the season. Three drivers got away from the rest of the field and they didn’t lose each other out of sight. Chris, Intre and OWRL debutant SVT M. Goëse swapped the lead like the cyclists at the Tour de France, at least until the round of pitstops got in the way. M. Goëse made an unfortunate error in judgement and entered the pit lane too fast costing him a drive through penalty. Intre looked like finally getting the upper hand over Chris, but during the pitstops Chris gained time by not changing tyres. From there on, he hold off his teammate and went to win his third race of the season ahead of Intre and M. Goëse. Round 5 at South City Long reverse was more straightforward: RAPTOR | Chris took pole, held the lead at the start and had the right strategy. Papafant joined a Div A race for the second time this season and finished in second. Intre got a podium of vital importance, because that meant Chris still had not enough advantage in the points to be crowned season champion. A final race of the season that would not be contended by Chris. Aston GT rev was the scene and IRT was set to make up for their lack of results this season, taking the first four places on the grid. Papafant was beaten for pole by MaRDoX, but took the lead the start. Then halfway during the race it became clear he was making a pitstop whereas MaRDoX was trying to finish the race without pitting for fuel or tyres. This handed the lead to him but just two laps before the end Papafant showed he is getting in form just as the annual MRT Cup is coming up, winning the final round of the season.

And the championship you ask? Just like Chris, Intre did not appear at the final race. As qualifying started, Chris was the new champion. Second in the standings was Intre. Matze showed some consistent performance earning himself a nice third place finish. Gentlemen, well done!

Division B
Div B started using the Formula BMW at Blackwood GP rev. In qualifying, Core K.O’Keefe edged ahead of [SR] FireDragon and in the sprint race he kept his lead. FireDragon may have lost the chance to win the first race of the season, but in the main race he still had the chance to get to the top of the standings after race 1. Using the top 8 reverse grid, FireDragon started ahead of O’Keefe on the 4th row. In lap 1 he drove from seventh to third, then got past Xcite | Cali for second and by lap 6 of 32, he overtook [SR] bLb for first position. Extending his lead to over 20 seconds, FireDragon took the lead of the point standings in the first event of the season with a bang. Xcite K. Egloff took second place in the standings with P5 in the sprint and P2 in the main race. On to Kyoto GP Long and the Formula XR. With 27 drivers on the grid in Div B1 it looked like it was going to be a closely contested event, and that was proven in the sprint race. Chat penalties costed the first two drivers to cross the line their position. FireDragon dropped from first to third, 3id Cai Yufeng lost even more places and finished in P8. The race win was handed to [SR] Tanakan followed by a second place finish by Div A veteran spdoFiredUp. Tanakan’s win in the sprint race boosted his morale so much that he became unstoppable in the main race. After Tanakan, Xcite teammates K. Egloff and Cali shared the remaining places on the podium. After two events those three drivers were closely trailing FireDragon in the standings. It looked like it could be one of the closest seasons in the OWRL to date.

That would change over the next two events. Race 3 (FBMW at FE Black) was missed by both the Xcite contestants and the Sonicrealms team gave their first sign of domination. The main race podium was covered by Tanakan, FireDragon and bLb. FireDragon had already won the sprint race at Fern Bay and increased his lead. In round 4 Xcite | K. Egloff fought hard to keep the [SR]-driver from further increasing his lead. At Westhill International he slipstreamed his car past FireDragon in the sprint race taking his first win of the season. The main race, again with the top 8 reversed, saw FireDragon zipping through the front of the field quicker than K. Egloff could. After they both had the top two spots again, the gap got within one second but never close enough for slipstreaming. FireDragon won the main race and got away with the most points in the event.

The middle part of the season had passed and FireDragon emerged as clear leader. His gap was 30 points over K. Egloff who already missed an event. The fifth race of the season took place as South City Long reverse, using the FBMW, and without the presence of K.Egloff. Now his main opponent in the champion was his teammate Tanakan. This event was joined by another quick SR-driver, Joedah (Rudy van Buren). Joedah showed his teammate the way winning both the sprint and the main race. Tanakan followed close enough in the sprint race for FireDragon to not take the championship there even though he had to let Dzban take the final podium position. In the main race however Tanakan got involved in an incident at the end of lap 1, dropping him down the field and eventually causing him to pit for repairs. FireDragon did what he had to do – get back on the podium and he was more than happy with finishing second. [SR] Firedragon won the S2 Season 15 Div B championship at the fifth event of the season. Congratulations! Because of the title, the third place finisher in the main race was slightly out of the spotlights, but ex.R K. Knaller showed an excellent performance at the streets of South City.

The final race of the season was to decide the remaining places, but one new OWRL contestant had other things in mind. Veng made an impression at his debut by winning both the sprint and the main race at AS GT rev. We hope to hear more from him in our upcoming season. [SR] managed to claim the top three of the championship. Behind the already crowned FireDragon, Tanakan and bLb finished the top three. Ex.R Snake00 came close to his first Div B1 win in the main race but was passed by Veng in the final stages of the race. Still, his second place finish confirmed his fourth place this season and just like the other top drivers, this will award him a Div A license.

Next OWRL season to be announced soon! We'll be racing before the end of this year.

RAPTOR | Chris and [SR] FireDragon are the leaders in the current Div A/B season in the OWRL. After three of the six events completed, both championships are shaping up to be a close competition that will be decided at the final round. In Div A, Chris won the first race in dominating fashion, then winning the second race by beating his teammate Intre to the line so that even with missing race 3, he could retain the championship lead. Because the worst result of the season is dropeed, Chris is looking strong for the second half despite being equal on points with FPR | Matze #78. Later in this report more on the public signup option that the OWRL offers for the second half of S2 Season 15 in Div A.

First on to Div B. The competition now has finished four races with the Formula BMW and two with the Formula XR, with each event drivers competing over two servers. [SR] Firedragon started strong at Blackwood GP rev by finishing second in the sprint race and winning the main. But some of his rivals have caught up with him with the strongest opposition coming from [SR] Tanakan, who has won three of the six races so far but less consistency means he still has some catchup to do to beat his teammate.

Wanted: New blood for Div A

Are you looking to race with Formula V8 in a well-organized league doing full-distance races? This is the chance to join Div A in the Open Wheel Racing League. As we are looking to increase start numbers in our FO8 races, the OWRL has decided to lift the restrictions on entering Div A. Drivers can join the Div A races just like the Div B rounds by signing up to the Div A race under our 'upcoming events' section on www.owrl.de. After joining the event, the sole requirement to enter the server is that a LFS World time will be set by signup deadline, three hours before the event starts.

Div A is limited to 28 drivers for the rest of S2 Season 15. In case more people sign up, all interested Div A licensed drivers will be allowed in and the remaining, non-licensed driver based on the fastest time.

Drivers that enter a Div A race will not automatically get a Div A License. They can race in Div A on a preliminary basis. At the end of the season, drivers that are capable of finishing races and scoring points will get a Div A license. The Div A rules as written here are now for the final three races of S2 Season 15 and will be reviewed after the conclusion of the season.

New rule closes up championship battle

The 15th Div A/B season in the Open Wheel Racing League will have an important rule change. In the championship, set to start next Saturday, drivers will have their worst result dropped. This means that the champion will be crowned by his best 5 races. The advantages of this rule is that drivers who are forced to miss one of the six races still have good chances of the championship. Drivers who race in all events still have an advantage as they can count out the event in which the accumulated the least amount of points.

The rule counts for both Div A and Div B. In Div B, where each of the six events consist of a sprint race and a main race, the points of both races are aggregated so each event counts as one. Div A, the division that races with the Formula V8, has one main race at each event.

S2 Season 15 starts on Saturday at 20:00 CEST at Blackwood GP Rev. For the first race in Div B the car of choice will be the Formula XR. Already over 60 drivers have entered over both divisions. New drivers are always welcome to start in Div B. Register at www.owrl.de and state that you can take part under Upcoming events.

OWRL introduces new Div A license
Krutch
S2 licensed

The Open Wheel Racing League has added a new system to reward those drivers that have proved themselves in the Division A/B competitions of the league: A Div A licensing system. Drivers that have gone through the ranks will automatically get the Div A license, which allows them to compete in any Division A race. Div A races are held with the Formula V8. The Div A/B season remain as they were, with the Division B using the smaller formula cars. The next competition using the new licensing system will start in September and is to be announced shortly.

(click for full image)

In a Div A/B season drivers with a Div A license are allowed to start in both Div A and Div B races; they are free to choose for each event. New drivers or those we have not their Div A license yet can sign up for the Div B events. If they finish in the top 7 at the end of the season they will earn the Div B license. Once received a driver can not lose his Div A license unless that penalty is handed out by the marshals. Based on current rules, 45 drivers have already been awarded a Div A license. It is still anticipated that only 1 server will be needed for the Div A races.

"The Div A license allows us to give the drivers that deserve it the right reward", said Wouter "Krutch" de Bruijn, head admin of the Open Wheel Racing League. "It keeps our Division system intact whilst at the same time giving our drivers a bit more freedom. Once earned, the drivers can miss a couple of events or even a season and when they return they can still race in Div A. For those that prefer the frantic Div B action they can enter a race with the FBM or FOX and later get back to the Div A races. We are certain this system will prove itself to all OWRL competitors."

The rules that have been used to award the Div A license:
- All OWRL champions since S2
- All Div A drivers from S2 Season 14
- Top 7 from Div B from S2 Season 14
- Top 4 from the FBM Trophy.

For more info on the Div A license and the OWRL competitions visit www.owrl.de. To see who are the current 45 drivers that have the license, see the Div A Drivers list.
Xcite | Fireball wins inaugural FBM Trophy

The final round of the FBM Trophy has not seen any big shake-ups in the championship standings, making Xcite | Fireball the winner of OWRL\'s first ever FBM-only championship. Fireball\'s win came as a surprise to many, as he did not had the outright pace of some of the other competitors. But consistent top 5 finishes and one win meant that he could held off charges by [SR] Howie and n1 J.Lehikoinen.

It was about the top four in the championship right from the start at the final round of South City Classic rev. In the sprint race, round 7 of the championship, Lehikoinen and Howie made there intentions clear by claiming the top two steps of the podium. It looked like it could be a very tense final round, as Fireball finish 6th and FireDragon only managed 8th, which in turn gave him pole for the main race. Firedragon hold on to the lead to win his first OWRL race in the final chance this season.

(click for full size)

The battle for the championship would be between Fireball, Lehikoinen and Howie. Fireball leaped up to second at the start of the race and hold on to that position, knowing that he would be champion if he finished the race on the podium. Howie then had to aim at retaking second place from Lehikoinen, and he did his part finishing on the final podium position. Lehikoinen, feeling that any chance of the championship was slipping away, eventually got caught up in an unfortunate accident and would limp home in 11th.

Final standings:
  1. Xcite | Fireball -339 pts
  2. [SR] Howie - 309 pts
  3. n1 J.Lehikoinen -293 pts

S2 Season 14 - Division B recap

Our second and final review of S2 Season 14. This time, it is the review of Formula XR and Formula BMW races in Div B. 95 drivers, 17 different race winners across up to 3 servers, another "Xcite"-ing season of competition.

Once again the smaller single seaters were alternated in Division B, but at the end of the season it didn't seem to matter which car was used as Xcite Cali dominated the season to such an extent he took the race day as a holiday!

(Click for full size)

Race 1 - Blackwood (FBM)

AMT and spdo locked out the first two rows of qualifying and AMT s@leSs won the opening sprint race as he pleased ahead of OWRL MRT Champion spdo Paddi. Xcite Cali had deliberately qualified last in order to avoid trouble and he had moved to 10th by the end and although post race penalties would move him to 7th that would be too late to give him a front row start for the main race and Tenttu sat on pole for that.

AMT niikoolaa joined Tenttu on the front row and drove away to win the race easily, although he was helped by a crash between spdo James and [SR] Andy as they challenged down the back straight on lap 1. Tenttu put up a hard fight but as AMT niikoolaa passed him on lap 2 the winner was already decided. [SR] Monty and MAR $Tre4M rounded off the main race podium.

On the other two servers there were wins for CoRe L.Malecki, CR Fuse and GRT climbs.

Race 2 - Aston North (FOX)

Pole sitter n1 J.Lehikoinen led Xcite Cali and spdo James to the podium in the sprint race. In the main race spdo James dominated, moving from his 6th place gridslot to lead every lap of the race. Pole sitter [SR] blb had no answer for his pace and dropped to 5th at the end. Only n1 J.Lehikoinen could keep to the same pace but it took him 4 laps to fight through the pack from 8th on the grid and by then could do nothing about the spdo man. [RM] Domi K. emerged from the pack to score his only podium of the season in 3rd.

On B2, #low blacky scored a great double win. On B3 LTU_S.Vytas lost his win due to an after race penalty which gave OWRL stalwart [MF1] Matt Maslen the sprint race spoils, with mydeadline.silent picking up the main race victory.

Race 3 - South City Town (FBM)

Back in the slower FBM for the third round but this did not put off n1 J.Lehikoinen who grabbed pole on B1. Horst 23 scored exactly the same time but had to make do with 2nd place. The top 2 positions remained the same in a fairly quiet sprint race with [SR] Doc completing the podium.

In the main race Horst 23 was replaced on the podium by Xcite Cali as n1 J.Lehikoinen powered to an easy victory. At the end of 43 minutes of racing 5th place and 9th place were separated by only 2.25s with KC Muhrle being the unlucky guy at the back of the train. B2 saw wins for [SR] Tongey and FPR Tisu#66

Race 4 - Kyoto National Reverse (FOX)

spdo James became just James for this race and completed the season as an independent driver. He marked leaving the spdo team with an impressive pole position. Howie joined him on the front row but Xcite Cali was lurking menacingly in 4th behind LRT K.OKeefe. The expected challenge from Xcite Cali never arrived and he drifted into 8th place as LRT K.OKeefe took the lead with a finely judged drafting pass on James and he drove on to take the win.

Xcite Cali took full advantage of his pole position for the main race to win but the top 4 enjoyed a close fight throughout. Howie particularly impressed and although he grabbed the lead for a couple of laps near the end it was not to be his day.

Race 5 - Fern Bay Club Reversed

One of the shortest tracks that OWRL Division B uses saw the field fight it out in Fern Bay. This was to prove to be the decisive day in the championship. Another drive went independent for this one as LRT K.OKeefe became plain Kenneth, but his qualifying lap was anything but plain and he got a vital front row behind James. It was 3rd on the grid Xcite Cali who took the sprint race victory however.

His victory celebrations were tempered by the knowledge that he would start the main race in 8th position but that did not stop him taking a famous victory. At first, n1 J.Lehikoinen powered away into the lead but Xcite Cali picked off his rivals one by one. n1 J.Lehikonen knew if he could win then he could keep realistic hopes of winning the title at the last round. Things looked good until disaster on lap 44 of 58. Not only did he spin and gift the lead to Xcite Cali, but he also damaged his car and had to pit. 8th was not enough and Xcite Cali crowned his title triumph with a race win. With the tight competition and reversed grids it is no mean feat to win the title with a race to spare.

Race 6 - Aston National

With the championship won, Xcite Cali stayed away from the final race and two new winners in the top B server emerged. spdo SimonK won the sprint race from pole position less than one second ahead of his fellow front row starter [GGC] FireDragon. Starting 7th and 8th on the grid for the main race was not a problem for these two on the wide and fast Aston track and they shared the spoils again in the main race, but this time [GGC] FireDragon got the win - by less than half a second. KC Muhrle had a great evening clinching a pair of 3rd places to give him 2nd in the championship, just pipping n1 J.Lehikoinen who ended the season 3rd.

Another great and close season of racing in Division B which showcased a great array of young talent which will hopefully help keep OWRL as the leading single seater LFS league for many seasons to come. The admins would like to thank all those who participated and helped make the racing so good. We would also like to thank those drivers who helped with the server admin - sometimes at quite short notice! We hope to see you for our summer event and also for the next Divisional season in the autumn. Meanwhile, the F1 stars will continue their fight...

S2 Season 14 - Div A recap

In our first part of the season reviews from our latest Div A/B competition here is the S2 Season 14 Div A review by our OWRL reporter. One amazing debut, 6 keenly fought races and in the end the championship was won by the thinnest of margins.

Race 1 - Blackwood GP

You either love it or you hate it. Blackwood, the oldest venue in LFS Land, was the scene of the opening 70 lap race in Season 15. It seemed like spdo and Koma Crew liked it most of all as their drivers filled 8 of the first 9 places on the grid. Turn 1 was not the expected bloodbath and pole sitter spdo Kill3r got the hole-shot and led away. He was soon passed by his team mate spdo Chris, but after he unexpectedly retired early on the race was left to spdo Killer, debutant KC Intre and last season's champion spdo Firedup to fight for the win.

KC Intre made his way to the front on lap 21, passing spdo Firedup and then spdo Kill3r in quick succession. He then proceeded to drive impressively away from his more experienced competitors to take a famous debut win. spdo Firedup showed he wasn't about to give up his title without a fight finishing in 2nd place and Jens Schuran proved what a wily old fox he is by taking the last place on the podium with a cunning no stop strategy. He had to fight hard with Pod Pio to get it though. spdo Kill3r dropped down the order through the race and was disappointed to finish 8th behind former champion [SR] StormCloud, KC Chris and KC Jaypee.

Race 2 - Aston North

Aston's newest configuration was host to the closest and most controversial finish in Division A history.

spdo Kill3r once again had the pole position and he held off IRT Der Dude through the first two hairpins. Their battle was not to last though as spdo Chris touched the back of IRT Der Dude at the third hairpin. This put the IRT driver right at the back of the pack, but it just seemed to motivate him to move through the pack.

Up at the front, blue was the colour as spdo Kill3r led his team mates spdo Firedup and spdo Chris. Once again though spdo Kill3r dropped back as he was first passed by spdo Chris then had 2 spins on lap 3 and retired a few laps later. 2008 F1 champion FPR Matze78 was looking racey and challenged spdo Chris for the lead. Perhaps feeling the pressure, spdo Chris spun into retirement on lap 9.

FPR Matze78 led throughout the pitstop cycle and the race for the win became a battle between him and [SR] StormCloud, with IRT Der Dude in flying and now up into 3rd. Last year's F1 championship rivals fought a close battle but managed to just stay fast enough to keep IRT Der Dude getting into the fight. It was very close though - the three drivers crossed the line 1 second apart with FPR Matze78 crossing the line first.

He was not to win however. A 5 second chat penalty was assessed against the German and this dropped him to 3rd, with [SR] StormCloud inheriting the win and IRT Der Dude also climbing a place on the podium. Cruel luck for FPR Matze78, but he took his misfortune with typical sporting good grace.

Race 3 - South City Town

The race between the armco at South City proved to be a battle of the strategies, but there was still plenty of good racing. KC Intre took the pole and led way at the start, followed by spdo Kill3r and [SR] StormCloud who swapped paint and positions on lap 8.

For the next 30 laps [SR] StormCloud stalked KC Intre, closely followed by FPR Matze78 who was having another strong race. The British veteran eventually outbroke his younger rival into T1 and this seemed to put him off his stride as half a lap later he was in the wall.

Once again it was [SR] StormCloud and FPR Matze78 fighting for the win with around 10 laps to go the strategies became clear. FPR Matze78 dived into the pits as he was worried about tyre wear. This dropped him to 5th behind spdo drivers Kill3r and Josh and also KC Intre who was fighting on with a damaged car. KC Intre did not finish the race though as the damage finally took its toll with only a few laps to go.

[SR] StormCloud drove on to record his second victory in succession, with spdo Kill3r finishing 2nd and spdo Josh taking 3rd place. A 5th place and two wins gave [SR] StormCloud a commanding lead in the championship, but it was not going to stay that way...

Race 4 - Kyoto National Reverse

It was spdo heading the grid again at Kyoto, with spdo Chris heading qualifying king spdo Kill3r. KC Intre sat in 3rd needing a good result to reopen the championship fight. And that's exactly what he got.

3 of the spdo drivers, Chris, Josh and Firedup got together in T1, putting themselves out of contention. Series leader [SR] StormCloud was also caught in the aftermath from his mid grid starting slot. Suddenly it was looking good for Intre, especially when spdo Kill3r did a neat 360 on the exit of T3.

With his speed and consistency, everyone thought KC Intre had chosen to go light. The strategies can be very close here, but it turned out he was fuelled to the end and despite a small mistake that allowed pod.hama pio a brief reign at the front, KC Intre came home for an impressive win. IRT Der Dude finished 2nd with spdo Kill3r 3rd. With [SR] StormCloud suffering a rare non finish the chase for the title closed up. KC Intre was now only 6 points behind and spdo Kill3r was also within striking distance.

Race 5 - Fern Bay Gold Reverse

KC Chris and (of course!) spdo Kill3r made the front row of the grid. Whilst KC Chris was able to lead and then dominate the race, things weren't quite so easy for the spdo man. A poor start allowed [SR] Junkan to pass him into T1 and KC Intre, starting from 4th, squeezed alongside and touched spdo Kill3r, putting him on the grass and 4th on lap 1. This became 5th with a mistake at the the last turn allowing [SR] StormCloud through. The German driver needed a massive result to stay in the championship but it looked like he wasn't going to get it.

KC Chris was the class of the field and despite getting a drive through penalty for speeding in the pitlane he had enough speed and consistency to win as he pleased. [SR] Junkan was just as fast but had a few spins and finished in 2nd. In the fight for the championship, [SR] StormCloud passed KC Intre on the bridge on lap 12 to finish 3rd and increase his championship lead to 9 points.

Race 6 - Aston National

Showdown. KC Intre and [SR] StormCloud faced each other in a classic battle for the title. KC Intre claimed pole and the 3 bonus points. [SR] StormCloud grabbed 3rd on the grid near the end of the session to gain a crucial bonus point. If KC Intre won then [SR[ StormCloud had to finish 2nd, whilst spdo Kill3r needed a minor miracle to steal the title.

KC Intre led away from the start and [SR] StormCloud followed close behind with spdo Kill3r and spdo Firedup in the next places. Although he could follow KC Intre, [SR] StormCloud passed him on lap 14 and pulled away. The reason for this speed became apparent when the Sonicrealms driver pitted on lap 28. He was able to get back on track in 2nd place and once the challenge of [ivrt] timurrrr ended with his own pitstop and spdo Firedup crashed the top two positions were set.

[SR] StormCloud followed KC Intre to the flag to claim his 4th OWRL Division A title by just 2 points. It was so close that both drivers could look at little things in the season and say "if only". Although [SR] StormCloud's experience was probably the deciding factor, KC Intre was certainly the hero of the season as it was only his first attempt in the competition and he gave one of the most hardened old campaigners in LFS a real run for his money. Perhaps the Season 15 title awaits him in the autumn...

xcite | Cali takes the Div B championship!

After five out of six races this season, the first championship has been decided. At Fern Bay Club rev Cali extended his championship lead by enough. He did it in style as he won both the sprint and main race!

But first on to Div A. The race at Fern Bay Gold rev was dominated by KC | Chris. After getting pole by 3 tenths of a second, he kept the lead at the start and slowly drove away. The only mistake he made after that was speeding at the exit of his pitstop, but he already had build up a big enough lead that even with a DT, he retained the lead. [SR] Teammates Junkan and Storm Cloud were close together for most of the race. Junkan got the final pass on Storm Cloud by lap 50 and finished second. Storm still had reasons to be happy with the result, as he finished in front of his main championship rival, KC | Intre. The gap between the drivers now is 9 points, still close enough for anything to be possible in the final round of the season. spdoKilL3r still has a mathematical chance, but a bad second part of the race means he will need lots of luck to get the trophy. KC | Chris was not bothered by all this yesterday evening. He hold on to P1 and won the race by a margin of 20 seconds. Congrats!

The races in Div B ended with a big surprise. xcite | Cali had build up a good lead over the rest of the field in the standings, but it looked like the title would be settled at Aston National. It all went a bit different as Cali moved up from his 3rd starting place in race 1 to win the sprint race. Then he moved up from his 8th place on the top 8 reversed grid to 2nd by lap 40. In front of him: n1 J.Lehikoinen, 2nd place in the standings. Cali got past Lehikoinen and went on to win. This still would not have been enough to win him the title, but Lehikionen felt all the way back to 8th position, dropping him to third in the overall standings. As even ALSTR[RUS] in second is over 103 points away, Cali is certain of the Div B title. Congrats!

KC | Intre closes down gap on Storm Cloud with Kyoto race win

The OWRL S2 Season 14 went into its second half last weekend and the outlook for the final races of the year changed dramatically in both Div A and Div B. Over both divisions, 53 drivers showed up for the race event at Kyoto National reversed.

Qualifying in Div A was dominated by spdo racing with the first two positions for Chris and KiLl3r and the two other spdo drivers in the top six as well. But for three of them the good qualifying went out of the window as the teammates collided in turn 1 depriving themselves from any chance of winning. KC | Intre started third but gained two positions in the first two laps. He won the race after leading almost the full race, only having to hand over the lead to pod.hama Germanpio for a short while. Germanpio together with [SR] Storm Cloud was unable to finish the race, but both completed enough laps to score some point. For Storm Cloud this was damage limitation, as KC | Intre closed the gap in the standings down from 26 points to 6. It looks like we might get a close finish to the season!

The sprint race in Div B was dominated by newcomers. In B1, LRT|K.OKeefe and Howie finished first and second, whilst in B2 ex.R paInster won the race. All three drivers made their OWRL debut. Nice way to start! The more experienced drivers were stronger in the main race. xcite | Cali, KC | Muhrle and ALSTR[RUS] made up the podium in B1. Meanwhile, [SR] Tongey scored the main race victory in Div B by moving his way past eX.R Mikey23 and [MF1] Matt Maslen, both still holding on to finish on the podium. With his main race win, Cali took full advantage of the absense of his main rival in the championship and now has a healthy lead over n1 J.Lehikoinen and ALSTR[RUS].

The second race has been done. As was expected, the twists and turns of Aston North led to races full of excitement and action. The results have been uploaded. The stats and full points for the Div B1 sprint race have now been included as well.

In Div A, the race had one of the closest finishes ever in Div A but was eventually decided after the top three drivers had finishes. FPR Matze#78, who entered Div A from this race onwards using his F1 championship, was the first to cross the line closely followed by [SR] Storm Cloud and IRT Der_Dude. The top three were covered by 1.06 seconds. Matze was under the assumption that everyone had finished the race when he posted one chat line - the race hadn´t finished though, so the 5 second time penalty he incurred let him to drop down 2 places. This promoted Der_Dude to second, a position he still was not happy with as he was fastest for most of the race. The new winner was Storm Cloud, who also took the lead in the championship.

On to Div B. The Div B1 sprint race was one by n1 J.Lehikoinen, who drove away from the rest of the field. Xcite | Cali was the only one who kept the gap under 10 seconds, spdoJames finished third. In the main race, with the reversed grid, James drove quickly to the front. Lehikoinen was the only one who could challenge him in this race, but James did not crack under the pressure and scored his debut OWRL victory. It also handed him the lead in the championship, but with three other drivers within 12 points, it promises to be a very close season!

Intre, niikoolaa take early lead in standings after Blackwood

The results and standings after the first round of the new OWRL Div A/B season are online. After a long preparation time, the OWRL participants finally met on-track for the first event at Blackwood GP. In Div A, KC | Intre made quite an impression at his debut in the FO8 series: He held of reigning champion spdoFiredUp to mark his welcome in Div A with a victory. The podium was completed by hotlap competition entrant Jens Schuran. Despite only knowing on the day he had an official entry into the race, he executed a 0 stop strategy perfectly to come from a 14th starting place to 3rd.

In Div B, the sprint race in B1 was won by AMT s@leSs. But s@leSs did not make the start of the main race, causing him to drop down in the standings. His teammate, AMT niikoolaa, won the main race and with that, he took the lead in the championship after round one. Most consistent driver of the day was [SR] Monty, who finished both races on the podium. His performance led him to a second place in the standings.

In the results, you can see we have given several drivers a time penalty, most of them 5 seconds. We want to make it clear once more, that chatting is absolutely forbidden during our sessions. Chat is open again as the admin says so. Also, we allow drivers to use shift-p and rejoin the race during lap 1. Some drivers did this after lap 1. That is not allowed, and therefore those drivers were not awarded with the points for their finishing position.
