"updating you AGP BIOS becuase it is old (2002)." I just ignored the AGP word, sorry

Good luck with the driver

Do You mean the video bios? ( My system bios is 'pretty' fresh, I think the last one for a7n8x, I upgraded it always )

System BIOS Date 09/27/05
Video BIOS Date 05/20/02

info: I played another 2 hours in the night without problem , I will sleep here at work.

Today another 3 hours (off and online too) without freeze... I can suggest to the Geforce 5- users to test the driver I linked... Maybe I am lucky that there are no freezes, but maybe not... Give it a try. (I used driver cleaner before it.)

Quote from Nick A :

I went through my replays of the crashes and I noticed that when online the car dissappears and then reappears after the freeze (appears as a lag). When offline, the car appears to continue in a straight line. It doesn't respond to any wheel input during the freeze. I suspect that the offline replay is filling in for the period where no input was recorded.

I checked it too in the past, I am always holding hard the wheel, because after the lockup, it often kicks, due to a collision . Online I am always dropped from the server during this time. One time I checked the replay (it was a OLFSL race), and yes, my car was a big LAG , and disconnected.
[earlier when I was not knowing that the game will start again, I just pressed reset, because I thought it is real freeze.]

Bad news for me, that could mean that Nick is right and not the gfx drivers are behind of this. ( yes I know that Micha told that He has ATI too )
Maybe ATI and nVidia too made the new drivers not fully compatible with "older" video cards.. Who knows... I am still hoping that the old driver solves the problem...

Quote from R.Kolz : "I really appreciate if anyone here can suggest me a suitable driver"

42.23 is a known good driver for a GF 4200 card. Google for it and give it a try.

Regards...

Thanks. I have installed on saturday a 56.72 driver, and it seems that my problems gone, but I dont want to drink before , so I am still testing it... :X I will post here if it is still ok after a few days... fingers crossed I tested it about 3-4 hours, and no stuttering yet.......

if anyone would like to try, here is the link: http://http.download.nvidia.co ... _winxp2k_english_whql.exe

Hmmm, another Athlon...

NO not the agp aperture size caused the stuttering

I checked with apg aperture size 64, but I tested it only for 1 hour, so not too much, it was ok during this time. On the weekend I will test it more and more...

ok, so my hints are: memory timings, and agp aperture size. Maybe I should set it lower, I read somewhere today, that 64 is a good value for it... I will try this first.

OK, I will make the analysis with Aida when I get home (+5 hours from now). than we will see... at least I hope...

Yes, I have nForce mobo. And other (but different) pairs are that Albieg and Micha has ATI, and Nick and me have nVidia... aaand as I see Albieg and me have VMWare (but I have just installed it about a month ago). But Albieg has no problem .

here is the link to aida

http://cgi.zdnet.de/c/?s=41&am ... 393.zip&dld_id=de0DX2

( another idea: maybe we should check the memory timings, when we have this hw info generated )

I have Creative Audigy2 audio - I disabled the integrated sound in bios - so it is different too.

And I have this 'freeze' only in lfs . Ok, mostly I am playing with age of kings if not with lfs, so not too much experience in other games. Ah and some Enemy Territory too, but far not as much as lfs and aok.

The only common thing I found is the Athlon XP system. But there must be something else I don't think that only we have this kind of CPU...

[ one good sideeffect of all this testings is that i improved my lap time on AS Nat with FZR , this is my 'testcombo'. ]

it's freezing again
so it is not the IDE drivers...
i should check with an old geforce driver, but i think Micha has ATI, so I don't think that this will help...
Hmmm...

Hi Micha,

I hope I get it right, and you are looking for this info:
Control Panel/System/Hardware tab/Device Manager
IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers/NVIDIA nForce2 ATA Controller - properties, Drivers, and here you can see the versions.

But if you use MS IDE drivers, than you don't see "NVIDIA nForce2 ATA Controller" under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers. (Yesterday I switched back to the Standard IDE Controllers (MS) (just uninstalled the nForce2 ones), and was testing about 2 hours, and no freezes, but I should test it much more, so I will play today too . )

Hello Nick and all helping racers !

I have the same problem. As I checked your list of the pc's hw and sw components, i realized that the common is the Forceware 93.71. I have a much older gfx card: geforce 4 ti 4200, so maybe I will try to use an older driver. I really appreciate if anyone here can suggest me a suitable driver (w/ dl link ) for this card.
I have this problem since about a year too. A few months ago I reinstalled my Win, to check if it caused by any background process, but the same freezing occurred. (I just installed the hw drivers, and no anti virus sw, no firewall when I tried lfs) I thing my freezes are not as frequent as in Your case, but I usually get one freeze per lfs running. I dropped from one or two olfsl races due to this in the past . When it freezes, the sound is repeating, the HDD lights are on, so the same...
Another ~common thing is I have Athlon system (Barton 3200) on nForce mb.
shortly my system: Asus A7N8X, Barton 3200 (no oc), 2x512M ddr400, MSI nVidia Gef4 Ti4200 (AGP 4x), 2HDD, 1DVD RW, power supply: 400W.

I have another idea, maybe the IDE driver... Nick please check which version You have. Mine is: NVIDIA nForce2 ATA Controller, Version: 5.10.2600.518. Provide: NVIDIA. Maybe I will try to roll back to Microsoft one...

so for me:
- check with _old_ gfx driver
- roll back ide driver to MS drivers... (as I remember, i found this new ide drivers at nvidia about the same time when freezes started, but I was not playing every day lfs...)

I hope we found out the solution.

Hi Kamo, welcome here .

I tried the set, it is very good, fast, and after getting uesed to is - easy to handle.
I thing I will stick with my patchX-test-clutch-pack-set - because I want to learn a little carsetting - but I copied the gear ratios from Bawbag's set, and that helped me .3 secs too.
Thanks Bawbag

I will try this when I get home . I tried to make my own set for this course, but I am too slow at the end turns . (but ok at the chicane. I am using clutch pack, i wonder what diff you use)
thx again

Mine was great. Pool 4 (my usual pool ), started from 15th, finished 4th, in fight for the podium .
It was pretty clean race for me, all racers were fair to each other. Only at the end was a close situation when Julppu, Phabio and me was fighting for 3rd position. Julppu was the leader of this train, but He slipped in T1, Phabio passed him, but Julppu car was turning right, before me, and there was a possibility of collission. I decided not to break but keep full throttle to avoid His car (I thought if I break, I slip into His car, and anyway there was no chance to stop with breaks). Fortunatelly it was a successfull maneuver... but so close (as I checked the replay) ...phew. I think Solar was commenting this: "oof" .
Thanks guys for the race. Congrats to Hoschí.

There was a month to learn this combo, but I was too lazy to practice , I made some laps ~4 weeks ago on this combo online, and did a few laps with AI opponents too, but that was all. I was lucky to be online once Bawbag was practicing, and He gave me his set (thx for it ) so I had a good set to be fast, but my training with this set was the 3 laps on wednesday maybe, when I ran my hotlap to upload... :/
After this I went to Pool6, and in spite of this things I had much fun in the race. (starting with a spin in T2 -> last place )

I thought that I will make mistakes, so i decided the strategy to start with 45% fuel and to pit in 18th, to make the repairs on the car...but i forgot to raise the tyre change % (it was on 30%)

The race was as I thought, I made mistakes, so thats why I saw Tim so many times, and he was very correct at overtakes. After the pit (where the guys changed the whole car - they repaint the skin too ) I come back +30secs from Tim.
I thought it is too much, but after Tim's unfortunate accident, the 2nd place was again near. So started to floor the pedal as much as I can. I had luck in last lap to have a pretty fast going over the chicane, and reached Tim, so I tried the takeover, in that slippery corner. I made it, Tim was correct this time too! After it I was concentrating not to make any huge mistakes during that last lap. (of course I made some, but not lethal )
It was a good race for me, thx guys.

[ Ah and Russ, sorry for the bumping in 1st or 2nd lap , for me your car was doing hyperjumps on the track, there was some evil lag..., fortunately this accident was not too serious. ]
