Guys, Xeno is not talking about rallycross, which is going round a track together with other people for more laps, but rally as in you do track by track, 1 driver at a time, 1 lap per track. Sort of like normal stages in WRC but much more simplified. Some stages are on tarmac, some on rx tracks.

As for all the moaning for there not beeing a proper rallycar in LFS, the FZ5, RAC and LX4 are a blast to drive on the rallycross tracks.

you might want to change the name of your event, this is race of champions:

Busta made a great ROC layout for the carpark. but,I dont think you have this in mind

Good fun again, too bad Hyper had to talk to Fred the last 15 minutes.

Got a bit off my concentration when Fred started talking about his electricity and cat fetish, I think he has too much pie or something maybe you should put him on a dieet.

Quote from pie :I think the sounds are too clean. For example, most engine sounds are so loud, the human ear will register it with a distortion-like effect.
Specially sitting in the car would blow your ears and can never have such a nice and clean sound.

I've made a quick F1 engine-sound test using some simple 'soft clipping' wich IMHO sounds way better already.

Judge for yourselves:

http://www.e-phonic.com/mp3/processed.mp3

This should be easy to implement... you can get the C++ sourcecode for this effect from me!

Cheers,
PJ

I totally agree, had the same suggestion before patch V but felt like I was being ridiculed because of making that suggestion...

That processed sample actually sounds a bit like the real deal.

I had some opinions from people who mostly play RF. They were negative, things like: 'sounds like you're driving with 2 tin cans on your ears' 'F1 sounds like a vacuum cleaner'.

I've allways been supportive of LFS, its still the best racing sim, but this sound issue is really getting to me.

Quote from Victor :if that's natural in your ears, you should go see a doc

Clipping definately is NOT a natural fenomenon. It's a mostly digital thing.

You ears compress loud sounds, but they do not clip.

I'm sure you've been to an F1 race, to make the example even more obvious, the sound is not compressed when the full grid leaves the starting line, your ears just cant handle it, if that sound would just be compressed, as in the amplitude would be somehow lowered, it would sound as clear as... well as lfs... But somehow I dont think anyone experiences an F1 race like that.

Could be all wrong here, maybe the LFS sound is great and i should really see a doctor.

If you ever been to I love techno, a large indoor techno event, you might have experienced the same thing...
Yeah, sorry, I really should see a doctor shouldnt I

Quote from Scawen :U36 update is online. Click list of games to get it.

get rid of some low frequency drone in some cars, and reduce the muffled effect and increase some high frequencies in all the cars.
.

Plz Scawen, this going in the right direction, but we need more of this, really let yourself go, the low frequenties now sound like an open intake, sausage filter kind of thing which is good, I like the higher frequenties, but plz amplify them more, the GTRs, LXes have no sound proofing, higher freqenties will resonate against all the sheet metal, the resonation will give more amplitude at specific frequenties, its all about making the sound less clean and as kidcodea indicates, screw all the clipping issues, we need clipping, if you go to a race with a full grid of LXes the same thing will happen to your ears, its natural.

I'm still having problems with the gearwhine repeating itself on the FXR FZR and XRR. I have a very decent senheiser headset so its not that. This really should be resolved.

I noticed the GTRs still have the same repetetive gearwhine, at constant high speed, its like a sample that repeats itself every second, its very annoying.
I could live with the sound in general, altough ofcourse, its still too clean and still has too little high frequenties, but for the GTRs i'ld always have to go back to preU32, its really that awefull.

1.I dont think people that are saying LFS sound is now GREAT are providing any usefull information. This is not the case, pls people, try GTR and GTL, thats proper sound, the sound in LFS is it achilles heel and should be resolved.

2. Has there been talk about resonance and harmonics? I think if harmonics, caused by all the vibrations in and around the engine and exhaust are implemented in LFS (specific higher frequenties at specific lower amplitude) it would be a step forwards. We need more high frequenties at high RPM, this could be the proper simulated way.
Now, I dont know that much about harmonics any more, been 10year since i studied it at college, but i'm sure there's enough talent on this forum to help. (check wikipedia for a start)

3. The gear whine seems to repeat itself (at least on some cars) at constant RPM while driving, as if it was sampled, very anoying.

Watched the replay and saw it was infact me who took out dygear in the first lap . I'm very sorry, it looks like it was a small lag problem witch caused my car to swerve to the left more than it did whilst driving, but still maybe i could have avoided it somehow, I feel very bad, had no intention of doing something like that. Hope you can forgive me, mate.

Hey, that doesnt sound too bad, If you could adjust this with the rpm, so the effect could get bigger the higher the revs are, you could be on to something. Sort of what Tagforce was saying, the higher the RPM the higher the treble, makes perfect sence
