Quote from Avraham Vandezwin :Will you continue to improve this car?

I ask you the question because I think your mod has real potential. It doesn't take much to complete it:

1- A template for skins with the possibility of integrating a headband on the windshield
2- And a more elaborate racing style dashboard as in the attached photos. It's important for immersion Wink

It's good to go to the end of the concept so that people take ownership of the mod and produce skins and organize races Omg omg omg

Hey

Yes I would like to still improve it, especially dashboard wise! I have learnt a lot and as I do I am trying to make updates that improve the look and feel of my mods. I will make a start on a new dash soon, now that the Ray 400 Touring is up and pretty good I will look back at this and make some tweaks to enhance the experience Smile

I will look into updating the skin template, this is however not quite as important as the dash Smile

Thanks for your input

Berg Cup has had a much needed update, I have included a diffuser with underbody aero. After MANY laps and trying different setups I just couldn't properly tame the lift off oversteer when braking into a corner at high speed. This is a normal issue in certain cars and front wheel drive cars that are very light are known to do this, my VW MK2 Golf daily driver does this when going too hot into turns and lifting off the throttle.
So I decided to test some under car aero this morning and it did make it much more predictable on high speed turns. The bonus of this is more consistent laps and an immediate improvement of about 0.5 sec on Westhill International. I am sure with some more setup tweaks or time it might shave closer to 1 second off the lap time.

Enjoy

Thanks very much for you kind words, I am glad to hear it!! Please go and rate it if you haven't already Smile
I did try my best to get the suspension designed well, it was thanks to the input of guys like turbofan & dan40BG that helped test it and gave feedback and pointers. The whole point is to have it handle well, without ANY aero added.
Yes the dash isn't great hahaha, I just went for something basic like many racecars have XD
There are two skins that I have added, one is for Castrol and the other for Avon Tyres. Enjoy buddy!
RAY 400 TOURING

Rooted in a real love for race cars, especially those from the 60's - 90's, I couldn't resist the idea of tackling another old school classic. This time I stumbled across the Opel Manta B 400, a car with a pretty decent history in rallying and with a few built for circuit racing.

The LFS GTR class is such a fun class, big power, big downforce & big turbos!
I decided to do my own take on a Manta that is set up for racing in the GTR class and is specced to fit right into the GTR class.

I give you the Ray 400 Touring, a 2.4L, 4 cylinder turbo, 6 speed manual with good suspension, decent front and rear downforce and underfloor aero. Initial tests have been very promising vs the standard LFS GTR's with the Ray 400 Touring giving up a 10th or 2 in the corners and taking that back on the straights.

Lots of fun

Cool man, I do understand that this will always be a bit of a handful/ challenge, these old cars were driven by real legends!

Keep up the good work, it's exciting trying to tame such a beast!

I do think the engine "tuning" can still do with some work though, while it is fairly low revving its not that low, you can hear in the video that it revs pretty high for an old school V8.

I also found this for the M8F: https://www.supercars.net/blog/1971-mclaren-m8f/

I can't speak for what the real car is like to drive but this thing is so unforgiving its scary! I have found the front to get very light on high speed turns and over crests and then the rear will just break loose without warning in the low speed corners ( I know big slicks tend to have lots of grip to the limit and then suddenly let go ). However, the power delivery feels off, its too sensitive at light throttle, I know its a big V8 with torque but in a racing application you usually have the power higher in the rev range/ aim for a linear power delivery. Overall, I think this is on the right track, looks good, sounds good but the suspension needs some work. You also have too much offset on the fronts, it makes it violently snappy when you loose traction under breaking, try extend your control arms and reduce the offset to as low as you can.

FRAUD 20b DRAGSTER

I have been wanting to make a mod with a 20b rotary engine, because ROTARY & SOUND & ROB DAHM!

I took my Fraud ES2000 and totally reworked the rear suspension with a proper drag racing setup (trailing arm/ 4 link) as well as fat rear slicks and skinnies up front. There are also a number of visual changes including a proper Pro-mod style rear wing, fat fender exit exhaust, bonnet scoop/ duct feeding a BIG turbo and front end changes for the large intercooler.

The gearbox is a 5 speed sequential, no traction control and a narrow but INSANE powerband just like a proper drag car.

Here is the link to my original mod: https://www.lfs.net/files/vehmods/54D0E5

This is a handful when it comes into boost!

T-BUCKET NA

Growing up I would often see one of these weird yet wonderful creations driving around in my neighbourhood, its called a T-Bucket.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-bucket

As quoted from wikidepia, a T-Bucket is described as "A T-bucket (or Bucket T) is a hot rod, based on a Ford Model T of the 1915 to 1927 era, but extensively modified."

One of the earliest types of hot rod and still popular today, they couple light weigh, rear wheel drive and powerful V8 engines. This will make for a lot of fun for either cruises or street/ drag racing.

I got the basic model from Sketchfab, looking for something low-poly that I could use as a basic starting point. I then started reworking the body extensively as well as adding various own modelled parts and those taken from existing LFS cars.

https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/20s-car-a37541cfa3764aca8d1b94131b8ca1aa

I am keen to see what interest there is for this one so I have added a poll.

Quote from AEF :Very nice! But...
1) Windshield must be transparent in my opinion!
2) If you want to race against the BERG CUP, you probably will need to increase the width of the tires by one measure (or decrease those of the BERG)

1- Noted, I will sort that out for the update I am busy with, its still a learning process for me and now I know how to do this.

2- I hear you, however, that is not the goal for this car, I want it to be as true to its real racing class as possible and there are limits on the tyres, berg cup is a bit more open as far as I understand.

Currently no, but lets see for future updates. For now, it gives you a good challenge and should be something you'll get used to after a few laps

Quote from Scawen :Well... seeing as you are interested... it might be helpful for people to understand the thinking behind the patch, some info about how things actually go in the real world as opposed to some imagined perfect world where I can continue coding full time without any issue. And what the plans are as I see them.

Since version B was released, first I did some finishing work that week and put a little time into a special version that can really help with events such as the football (Soccar) event. As the ball can run on the host, it works so much better. It's a special server version that could be used for some special cases in future. Something I really wanted to do, even since before the first public version of mods. It's an interesting concept. The reason I even *do* this job, is so that I can follow interesting concepts and get them done!

Then I got Covid, and it was the kids half term. So not much done that week.

As you know, we have a public review system now, and it has been fairly common for people to submit mods from other games, usually by mistake (e.g. they got it from a supposedly legitimate website but the person who uploaded it there didn't actually make it). We can't host such mods, so it's important to have the wireframe view that helps people to examine the model and see if it has come from an illegitimate source.

I don't like the fact that there was a crash in the version. Even if rare... there's one reason that LFS doesn't crash much. It's not because it's 'old' or 'can run on a toaster' etc. It's because I always try to fix every crash, and respond when community members report one.

A couple of other bugs and issues were spotted in the football event so I did a quick fix for them. The shadow bug and the wall riding. Good to fix them. Then when fixed, why hold them back? You guys can have the fix too!

One important thing, for people with worse internet connections, is the ability to download mods while joining a host, instead of after you have joined. It was on my sheet for months, long before the first public test patch of the mods system was ever released. I actually did that in a day yesterday. It has been a little hard to get right back to work after Covid.

Although my Covid was classed as 'mild' I can tell you that for me it was a lot worse than a normal cold. I had some rough nights, weird aching muscles and all sorts of symptoms, separately and sequentially. For info I'm 50 years old and semi-fit meaning I run and ride bikes a bit and walk a few km nearly every day if I don't run or ride. I eat a healthy diet, do not smoke (for 10 years) and rarely drink (and if I do, it's one glass). I actually thought Covid would hit me less hard. As I work from home, I was not vaccinated. I got the Covid from Leo who brought it back from school. I'm not asking for sympathy, it was my choice. I have my reasons.

So the download mods thing was a real good day of work yesterday. I had been somewhat distracted by the war and programming seemed very confusing. It's hard to explain to a non-programmer, quite how hard programming can be and how organised you have to be and have a good short term memory and sometimes keep notes as you go. Even in this case, when I wasn't really doing something entirely new and inspirational, there's data collection, packet sending, list processing, and it's quite simply a lot more involved than you might imagine!

I want to call a stop to working on mods, as you know, with a solid version out there. So that's what this test patch is all about. A simple update that allows me to get on with the tyre physics. There are a lot more things I could do with mods but I want to stop, because when we get the new physics and graphics out, it'll be easier to work on things as I won't have to merge two separate versions.

Hi Scawen

I don't think you are the other guys hear this enough, THANKS! Thank you for what you have produced over the years, a sim that is truly awesome and doesn't require the latest and greatest gaming rig to enjoy. I think far too few people take time to simply appreciate what a team of 3 has actually achieved over the last 2 decades. We as consumers quickly get caught up in consuming and take little time to reflect on what we consume and the work that goes into it. So once again, thank you, keep up the good work and all the best with your post Covid recovery, we are thankful that you have survived it and I am sure you family is too!

Quote from AEF :I suggest to reduce the darkness of the windshield more. Probably even bringing it to zero.

I will make a plan to do so with the next update, still learning some things and how to best do this was unknown to me until recently Smile

I am also starting to do some stitching of the body, the 3D model was quite an old one and turned out to have many triangles that were not actually connected, so I have to work through that which is VERY laborious
