And anyway, don't mind me. Maybe this time, asking for a progress report will result in one being given (I don't believe that has ever happened before though) and it's always nice to hear from the devs
To clarify, I'm not talking about progress reports. I just take issue with the apparent desire of some people to get 24/7 updates on everything the devs do. And some people will simply say it's just a joke, but if a bad joke is repeated too often, it's not funny anymore (if it ever was...)
Although it probably is a good system, it's only useful to use something like that if you do it from the start. It might be possible to use the rigid body dynamics and the collision detection, but it would probably take ages to implement that now.
Some nice observations in the review. It's the first time I've heard a reviewer mention the fact the interface allows you to change settings without interrupting your game, which is one thing I've always loved about LFS.
But what was that guy on about when he said the "developers should listen to the players and satisfy them by loading the game up with useless options"?
A couple bucks more and it makes the difference between a 2 bit crack whore and a $1000 call girl.
Seriously though, I haven't bought rFactor yet so I can't really comment on the driving or any of that, but it does look godawful. The 3d models seem to be nothing but boxes (look at the mirrors for example and that freaky steering wheel that looks like it's been carved out of granite...) and the textures look like they were drawn in MS Paint. Especially their 2d art is just plain bad. What's with all those bevels? And the thick straight black lines? And that horrible interface (the overlay and the in-car dials)? And the over saturation? The textures all look like high res versions of 7 years old textures. There's no proper detail in them. It all looks cartoony to me. And it doesn't have to be. Look at the GTP mod and the Simbin games (say of Simbin what you want, but they do know how to make an interior look good). ISI could have easily hired some of those F1C mod making guys to actually make it look good. And that "but it's a modding platform" doesn't do it for me either. This game is supposed to be finished, but they're relying on mod teams to actually finish the game for them. So now I'm going to have to wait a year or so for a mod team to make a mod that actually is of a professional standard? I don't think so. I'll stick with LFS...
Only if you're having problems getting the game to work and have reported that to their support site within 48 hours of buying and still can't get it to work despite their support.
Sounds like you're talking about the flywheel. I don't know if/how the flywheel is moddeled in LFS. Might be interesting for Scawen to have a look at. (The FXR and XRR could certainly use a lighter flywheel..)
You can just import the posts without the users. The posts would then be linked to profile number 0 (which is a guest account.) You'd still have all the usernames attached to the posts though because that's saved seperately in every post.
Anyway, if the devs ask us for it, we'll certainly give them a backup. The LFS forum at RSC won't be going anywhere though, so you can still visit it and read the old posts.
Because I do a lot of multi tasking. When I'm working I usually have Photoshop, Flash, Director, Zend Studio, a couple browser windows, my own local web server, azureus, etc. running at the same time. It's just nice and useful not having to wait for a program to finish it's business when you're switching to another program. And besides that, multi core is what AMD and Intel are both pushing atm which will mean we'll see plenty of use for it in future programs and games. And the performance gain in Photoshop alone is worth it...
