I can record one from need for speed underground 2, they have an 86 in there and they recorded actual sounds from it I believe...

is anyone willing to take on this project? I have a rather large avi collection of which was made using the fraps program (which rips avi's of in game including the sound)...I have a bunch of cars out of need for speed underground 2 in which they took actual recordings of these cars from real life (and they are not modded in the game at all)...in either case I turned all other sounds down except for the engine sound and recorded a bunch of cars holding the rpm steady at two or three different points throughout the tach...I didn't capture or rip out the audio tracks since I wanted to leave the video there for you to see what I did and what car it is.

they include suburu STI, nissan skyline, nissan 350z, mazda miata, honda civic, pontiac gto, and a bunch of other cars..ie. evo, 3000gt, rx7 etc.
anyway, if anyone wants a large library of actual good quality car sounds to work from and anyone who is skilled at making sounds for CSR...you can download the packs here:
http://www.larrychendesign.com/mike/lfs_csr_sounds/

I would do it, but other than fraps, I have no idea how to make good sounds for CSR...

btw, what settings should I be using to make everything sound more natural...meaning the engine/car sound in LFS audio menu...what level should that be at and what level should CSR be at?

and quick question...what settings should I be using to make these sounds more blended? ie. what level on csr dial? and what level on in game lfs car sound settings?

how can you emulate vtec changeover sounds when csr overlaps the sounds between mid and high range sound files a lot so you can't get that immediate change in frequency...

I wish you could adjust the overlap of the wav's or ranges...since they overlap so much, it sounds weird sometimes..you can kinda hear that old wav file in a way with the new one for about 500-1000 rpm's...plus if you could adjust the overlap, you could actually emulate sounds like variable intake manifolds switching over or hi-cam switching...

but wait, if you recorded the sound straight from a s2000 video....where is the vtec/hi-cam switchover sound? wouldn't you hear it in a real s2000 video?

I think we have all strayed way off topic in this thread, the guy who originally posted this thread was just designing a civic and wanted it to be more authentic by just having a sound changeover by asking if there were any settings in lfs tweak or mechanic s2 to simulate a huge jump in power at a certain rpm which in lfs would make a sound difference since lfs's sound engine can simulate where an engine is shining or running out of breath...

is there some settings in mechanic or tweak to simulate a jump in power at a certain rpm without using a turbo? I don't think so, but correct me if I'm wrong...

if you drive the ferrari 360 modena in gtr or gtr2...you can hear a distinct changeover--and a rather loud one at that! but the gears are setup so that if you shift at redline/limiter in the game, you won't hear the changeover as it stays in that band...you have to go below the rpms again to hear it...

I've noticed a marked improvement in my Autocrossing since doing it a ton in LFS...! smoother, more consistent...I also noticed the ability to notice the rear end coming out sooner and correct it cleaner and faster than previous to LFS...

in fact the first time I autocrossed ever was with a friend at a mazda event...autocrossed the new miata...and the first hairpin having never driven a FR (RWD) car in my life at the limit on an autoX course--the rear snapped under power in 1st gear and I corrected it like I have been driving the miata my whole life according to my buddy with tons of autoX experience next to me) and he was shocked at how fluid I was and how good my lines were..he kept asking me after--are you sure you've never autocrossed before (how did you correct that power oversteer so naturally and quickly? lol...my response was simple...no, just a lot of live for speed! lol

so I guess the answer is yes, LFS is realistic enough where it has actual appreciable effects on your driving ability if you play it enough.

do what does everyone think? are these gonna happen?

I especially want the brake squeal under low amounts of braking at slow speeds and when cold....and the idea of the brakes not working well when cold and fading when too hot...

of course the street cars brakes will work better when cold then the gtr cars...but they will fade vs. the gtr cars which will not would be great to have...and the squeal on brakes like in rFactor is a nice added touch of realism...

and lastly, what about weather temps...don't really care about actual different weather, but different temps or a random setting as well, which would effect air charge density and hense lower performance, or even different elevations at the different tracks which effect performance as well...

then of course you would ask, then why wouldn't everyone set the ambient temps to low for more power, then brakes and tires would take a lap or so longer to stop working but when hot, the brakes would cool off faster...

now I feel less connected or there in the car if that makes any sense..the cornering speed seem much higher now since they are much easier to drive and they do have more grip I honestly believe...I don't think the old behavior was random it was just that they gave the street tires very little grip under acceleration...but the physics at the limit were more realistic as anyone who has been to a road coarse or autoX will tell you how fragile a car is at the limit and oftentimes twitchy...it makes you almost hold your breath sometimes! in this patch, I feel nothing of the sort...no feeling of walking on "eggshells"

also, it feels as if I have some driving aids on....but I don't see any options to turn them off...I noticed the throttle help and steering help have been removed from the options menu, only brake help is there as an option? does that mean they are on be default in this new patch? if so, how can I turn them off...the cars are way to easy to drive now...and grip like crazy...

just got back from trying the new patch out...and I know I am going to get flamed for this...but it seems worse in some respects...it seems that they tweeked the FF instructions to the steering wheels and now I get a lot less info from my FF logitech momo than I used to...now it just feels flat in it's effects compared to the last patch/version, in addition, it is way to easy to drive the cars at the limit now with very, very progressive breakaway, almost to a rediculous point, cars are not twitchy at the limit you aren't walking on "egg shells" like in real life at the limit...it's too bad I almost like the last patch better and how it feels, I do like the new fonts used though and the new F1 car...but other than that, the game feels less like a sim and more like an arcade game now...

*let the flaming begin..lol*

well above anything else, I think the brakes need to be worked on...fade, and inability to work when really cold from onset...just how the tires don't grip well the first lap from being cold...also, the squeal at low speed, low braking would add a lot of realism...or atleast implement it on the race cars...

and maybe the ability without using the slick mod to choose slicks for the street cars...since of course in real life you can buy race tires for street cars as we all know
some suggestions...

brake fade under heavy repeated braking, brake squeal under light brake pedal amount/levels to signify race pad compounds, brakes don't work well when really cold should also be added

also do the tire pressures increase when they heat up? with the new addition that is planned regarding tire sidewall deformation, will higher pressures allow less deformation like in real life or even tires with lower profiles? and what about clutch heat soak or engine heat soak meaning engine temps affect performance...

no wait...sorry guys...I went over my best motoring collection on my computer and it's the best motoring of the r34 gtr skyline that was tuned by the infamous "Mine's" tuner company...in japan...in the video...the JGTC drivers compare it to the JGTC skylines they drive in real races and how this thing is as fast if not faster...

lol....you guys that sound bit is from a best motoring video of the nissan skyline r34 gtr Z-tune...500hp...with a warranty...only 6 of them made...made as a commemoration of the r34's which are discontinued...

so someone fabricated this video...

allow street and race compound tires for every car...

they should allow street and race compound tires for every car...that way we can appreciate the difference in grip and performance of each kind of tire...giving each driver more understanding of how important proper tire selection is in real world racing...somewhat of a lost art and understanding these days it seems...!
