Only thing I'd comment on (a personal observation) is the level of technical detail actually put me off the narrative - although I'm familiar with the subject matter, if you were talking about something like genetic experimentation maybe I would have been more interested in details as I have no knowledge of that.
Some styles of author love to cram details (almost like reading a manufacter spec sheet) and they have a loyal fanbase, some would present technical information in an acurrate, but understandable-to-anyone way.
Your teacher may look at the 'tech speak' and conclude that the techincalities add to the target-audience experience without detracting from the context, or they could deem that because they don't follow it no-one will.

Other than that personal critique I wouldn't complain, as has been said there are much worse in actual print.

If the G25 isn't dead (sticking it another PC would confirm this, and that's what I'd do 1st) then the USB enumerator could be screwed - the symptom of this is either nothing happens when you connect the G25 (i.e. no usb 'sound' when it's plugged/unplugged) or it detects something then doesn't install the actual device.
If this is the case you can try safe-mode, disconnect the G25 1st then remove any old/duplicate USB devices (edit - including any G25's) in device manager and re-boot and reconnect. If that doesn't work it'd be a registry job which you can probably google for.

Quote from Mr_Rotary :I was going to do that but some of the cars are 6 speed and i change cars quite a bit.

I guess i could chop and change all the time its not to hard to change them.

Read Androids previous post - you have to push down with the G25 for rev, it doesn't replace 6th - it's in addition to it.

The strength would depend on what you do all day, if you have to carry things around I would say the natural tendancy is to use your 'off hand' for this leaving your preferred hand free to open doors etc.

As for pedals, the first time I tried LFB in a road car (my trusty Mini) it was an experience for sure - at least 3 of the drums locked instantly.

It would be interesting if someone who has only driven autos still had no feel for the brakes with their left foot the 1st time, this would add credence to the precision vs. strength theory. However, if they did apply them in a sensible way, it would probably say more about the brain just expecting to apply a similar force to the brakes as it does with the clutch for a manual driver.

Quote from Jakg :You mean 1680*1050

A Quad at the same fe quencyagill have no performance advantage as LD% is sir%le-thr0Aded.%3ygr>

EDIT - F*CKING INERNET!

I *meant* to say that A Quad at the same frequency will have have no advantage as LFS is single threaded...

Yes - I did mean 1050 (typing without checking)

I realised about the single thread, just wondered if the Quad chips had any additional enhancements (FSB, cache etc) over my E6600 other than the cores - I've not looked at CPU's for about 12 months so kinda missed the whole Quad explosion.

You can see my rig in my sig, whilst I don't have a top of the range processor, I get between 150-250 fps single-player (with modded high-res textures) @ 1680x1250 res.
That seems to be the limit of either my CPU or the actual engine because it barely changes with different video driver options. Interested to hear what a good Quad-Core can do (even with a different GPU) at that res.

Quote from Dajmin :Problem is my 360 just got picked up for repair this morning, and as I write this I just realised I left the Forza 2 disc in it. Crap.
Anyone know what happens to the disc if you return the machine with one in it?

If you are talking about a free MS warranty repair
you will VERY likely lose the game. When my 360 got fixed around March the one that returned was not mine, and I believe this is the standard practice to enable a fast turnaround (took 5 days to get the replacement).

EDIT - that's the same reason they tell you to disconnect the HD on the proper 360 (not the base one) cos that won't be returned if you left it connected either.

Quote from thisnameistaken :Let's have the "F1 Full Of Twats" headline and get it all out in the open.

Thinking about some current and past F1 "stars" that would be a LONG article. It seems that media attention = happy sponsors = more chance in F1, and that seems to be any media attention at all.

"He goes round dressed up as a 1930s music hall man. He's a certified halfwit."

Seems Mosley is getting ever-closer to his fathers views.

I haven't always agreed with Jackie Stewarts comments, but he's always struck me as higher than average when it came to intelligence, although perhaps this is more common sense and practicality neither of which Mosley seems capable of demonstrating.

Quote from TonyP23 :
PS When in the Clio, I got overtaken by someone called something like M'grath or similar. He was also in a Clio.
The instructor said he is, or was a champion driver. He expected me to know him but I didn't. Any ideas who he is?

Cheers

PWRC (the former group N) is still susceptible to exotic versions if the manufacturers thought there was money to be had. They, under current regs, only need to make 2500 from a 25000+ unit production model to qualify.

Let's say Peugeot made 2500 insanely equipped £30,000+ 207's then they could enter - the only reason they don't is that the WRC is where the publicity currently is and they wouldn't recover close to the costs.
If more people (I mean those people that think a car that has a body-shape vaguely the same as won the WRC means it's a pedigree rally car) took more interest in PWRC then the mass-market companies may jump in with limited-run cars.

As group N has been around for years without this happening I think it's safe to assume only Subaru/Mitsubishi have any real interest in producing a road-going rally-capable car and that the mass-market companies believe the people watching it will remain a minority vs. the WRC.

Maybe some of those sticky rubber feet (like the kind you get for preventing scratches for AV desks) that you can get would work if you stuck those on the desk where the wheel will clamp?

Once you come to stop using the desk they will peel off and a little polish should remove any traces of the glue.

Quote from pb32000 :In the short term a faster dual core would probably be the best bet, however in the longer term, with more applications and games becoming multithreaded, I guess more cores is better.

Add onto that that whilst running a single-core app like LFS your other cores could be performing 'background' tasks that would either impact LFS or have to be closed in some cases for performance - e.g. enhanced drivers/utils, AV, Firewall etc...

Since I got a Core2Duo the multi-tasking/alt-tab performance of my system has gone up dramatically over a P4 HyperThreader. Just because LFS doesn't use multi-cores right now don't forget LFS, even with focus, will not be the only thing your system will need CPU time for.

Quote from micha1980de :and that topic was covered in the near past as well.

Could you link please? I couldn't find anything with the search so knowing what keywords would be helpful in future?

Thx flymike91 - This was racing so I was wondering if lag was a factor as there was no way I could (or want to really) get the tyres to spin where some of the marks where appearing and I had noticed a couple with laggy connections in the race so guessed this may have been the cause but just wanted some confirmation.

You might want to make sure that the apps you plan to run work properly under a 64-bit OS (which you'll need to run to get the 4GB RAM you mentioned).

By a lot of screens do you mean more than 2 monitors BTW as most decent cards will drive 2?

I'm not sure if this question is covered in another thread or not, and to be clear I'm referring to the temporary skid-marks rather than the line or groove.

When racing on-line are the marks left as accurate as your own car skid marks (i.e data is sent reliably to the server, and possibly not real time for accuracy) or is it the result of the client interpreting the other cars real-time vectors (so could be susceptible to lag conditions and mistakenly place marks when the car wasn't slipping)?

Quote from Linsen :Sorry for quoting myself, but I still would like to know what exactly the deal with pitting times is. I read the discussion on page 8 of this thread and it seemed the general consensus was that pitting times are basically the same no matter what level you're at. And while this might be true, there still are differences between teams present (even when the amount of fuel taken in is the same). So, does anyone have an idea what causes these differences?

AFAIK isn't this the technical manager and no. of assistants that drive race performance (including pitstops)?
I only started this sim yesterday BTW so I could be wrong - and that's why I didn't answer your other question.

Got a 1st and 3rd in my first race in a 10-car field, they might not have been very quick but they didn't make many mistakes

The sellotape will likely be too stiff and end up sliding away from the join or just breaking the wires again. See if you can get hold of some insulation tape (electrical tape) if you do go down the low-budget repair route

If you can't/don't have solder then crimping them will work (albeit with some potential for distortion) it'll at least save you some money. If you haven't got anything to crimp with then you could always strip back the insulation and twist the wires round each other then cover with insulation tape, with the low current involved in headphones it's not risky to do this.

VIP covers the 'guests' that can access the paddock i.e. for the sponsors so they can rake more revenue in.
They will be in the 1st pit box, which on some tracks is notorious for being harder to get into, as well as being smaller as Becky pointed out.

The constructors points for this season were removed, hence why they will be in the 1st box (normally the worst performing team gets this box).

The drivers were not punished because Alonso was guaranteed 'immunity' as part of his deal to handover to the FIA his e-mails that confirm at least he and De La Rosa were aware of Ferrari technical info via Mike Coughlin (the reason the team was punished is the FIA surmised that the drivers alone not have used this info without more senior McLaren personnel at least authorising testing facilites etc.).

I voted 30 mins on the grounds that, whilst I haven't raced very seriously on LFS yet (still learning the tracks), that was a good marker on other sims I have done in the past, I would have said somewhere between 30-45.
In past experience there's always the risk that, regardless of the individual commitment of the competitor to do the race, the field could be cut down by RL issues if it's getting to an hour or more (disconnects, taking care of kids etc).
