Quote from Whiskey :2) LFS has no wind. There is only a variable to change the top speed and aerodinamics. There is no way to interfere with smoke (at LFS's actual state), dust, or even sideways cars.

That's incorrect, wind does affect particles (smoke, dust), wind mills and flags.

It's an unnecessary potential hazard. Accidents do happen, so reducing the vehicle's potential to inflict harm is a completely rational and reasonable concept, wouldn't you agree?

I'm not saying towing equipment should be banned altogether, I'm saying it shouldn't be installed when it's completely unnecessary.

Quote from Klutch :Do you guys not have Roo/Bull bars over there or something?

Correct, they're illegal.

Quote from Klutch :I've kicked my shin on a towball a few times.
Should we wrap up everything dangerous in bubble wrap incase someone accidently does something stupid?

Why wrap something in bubble wrap that doesn't need to be there at all? Having that tow hook permanently mounted serves no practical purpose whatsoever.

Quote :Due to the number of deaths and injuries caused by the rigid fronts of cars, often with metal bullbars (in 2000 some 2,000 deaths/year and 18,000 serious accidents/year in Europe [1]), the sale of metal bullbars was banned by a European Union Directive.

You both don't seem to understand that this tow hook will break bones at virtually any speed. You don't have to be run over for it to cause serious damage, it will do so even if it just bumps into you at 5kph, especially if you get caught between 2 cars. In fact, you could just run into it and hurt yourself much, much more than you would have with a plastic bumper. Not only is it solid metal, it doesn't have a deflective shape either, so you're likely to - pardon the pun - hook on to it, either with clothing or flesh and skin, or possible fingers.

Eggs have a 12.5% chance of spawning 1 - 4 chickens when thrown, I started with about 50 eggs I had collected over time.

Was a bit bored, started my basement free-range chicken farm

Already got some automatic egg collection system designs worked out, once we start the industrial district of the city I'll put up a chicken farm

I propose the following ground rules for the city:
  • No lava or open fire anywhere near flammable structures.
  • No digging into other people's lot, what's yours on and above the ground is also yours below it.
Regarding the furnaces, two issues:
  1. Please don't leave stuff in them (except fuel), people have no way of knowing whether they've been recently used and someone's expecting the materials to be in them or if it happened a long time ago and the remaining stuff is left over. In short, if you're done with the furnace, please leave it ready for use.
  2. Avoid using wood as fuel, use charcoal instead.
Also: We still need a name, a mayor, a town hall, a church...

Well it would block the view to the beach if it were really big and, more importantly, tall.

You picked a really nice spot you know, beach facing east, terrific sunrise!

I started flattening/leveling the area and laying harbour street, mamoru cut down most of the surrounding trees and put up the fences.

On the far side of Harbour street I carved out the outline for the Beach Hotel.
It's planned to occupy an area of 10x20 (double lot) and it'll go down at least another 10 + ~6 (wine cellar). Don't know about the height yet, but probably between 12 and 20. Objections?

I suggest:

<?php
$words
trim($input' '); // trim leading and trailing spaces
$words preg_replace('/[^A-Z\xC0-\xFF]+/iu'' '$words); // replace non-alphabetical characters (leave Roman/Latin + diacritics)
$words explode($words);
$words array_unique($words);
?>

or as compact one-liner:

<?php
$words
array_unique(explode(' 'preg_replace('/[^A-Z\xC0-\xFF]+/iu'' 'trim($input' '))));
?>

Quote from Dygear :Thanks for the info on strcasecmp, I think that makes the most amount of sense. I don't think I'll make a copy of a string to upper / lower version of every ones name because it would still require that the compare string will be converted and so the performance is pretty much lost. Unless you wish to benchmark these numbers.

I did and as I said, converting one string and comparing it with one you know is lower case is faster than strcasecmp(). The issue Victor raised renders strcasecmp() useless though, because it will not recognise "Leguán" as "LEGUÁN".

Victor, comparing lower case strings is usually faster because most names and normal text contain predominantly lower case characters. Comparing the simple string 'A normal string' with itself yields the following results:

On my slowest machine (P2 300MHz) over 10000 iterations:
upper: 1.017s
lower: 0.381s

On my desktop (Q9450 3.6GHz) over 1000000 iterations:
upper: 2.015s
lower: 2.008s

Admittedly the difference is marginal on the modern machine

Anyway, if you know a string you intend to compare is going to be mostly lower case, you should use tolower(), respectively if it's going to be mostly upper case, toupper().

strcasecmp() is faster than strtolower()ing 2 strings.
Alternatively you could could keep a lower or upper case version of the PName and UName for comparison so you'd only have to strtolower() or strtoupper() one string to perform a comparison, which would be a wee bit faster than strcasecmp().
Upper case would be slightly slower in most cases as more of the string would have to be changed.

You can't join via masterserver (server list / join specific host -> internet) if you're behind a router unless NAT loopback is enabled. I have yet to see a router where this option is integrated into the web-interface, so you'll have to use ssh/telnet to enable it.

Alternatively, just join via join specific host -> local network and specify the IP and port manually.

Looks nasty but there should be plenty of salvageable parts. Is it a targa? Hard to tell from the photos.
Either way, doesn't look too bad (occupant-protection-wise) considering it's been rolled.

As for mine; still wasn't able to measure the compression because the adapter won't fit, have yet to find a suitable one. Had the same problem with the spark plugs but eventually found a 16mm long reach slot wrench that was just that, not some stupid 16/19/21 combo.
Still, at least I did finally get the plugs out and caught a glimpse into cyl. #1 and #2, pitch black and covered in oily residue. Piston rings are obviously still a possibility I can't dismiss until the compression is verified, but the valve stem seals definitely gone, that's I'm sure of.

Gonna order the parts tomorrow, should be here within the week.

Work will progress slowly from then onwards though, it's just too cold. Not only are the conditions tough to work in, I'm also much more likely to break things.
I hate the fact that I have to do this, but I love doing it. Men are stupid.

I've read they can't ascend ("jump") and drop to the bottom, so you'd probably have to dive deep down to find them.
