Sorry for being OT, but Becky can you please tell me the name of this Stunt Car Racer remake ? I really want to try it, because i loved this game on the good old Amiga (actually the first game i played in multiplayer with 2 computer via a serial cable link).
would it be possible to implement a function to export your current control settings to a script file ? (buttons, axes, views, ...) Could be handy to start editing from such a exported script file, maybe you could also choose which settings to export. Just an idea that came to my mind, what do u think ?
I still get freezes every now and then, but its very random. sometimes i can play for hours and sometimes LFS freezes after a few minutes. I played around with minimum sleep and i think i am getting less freezes with 10 ms (instead of 5 being used before).
I also tried using old Catalyst drivers (5.11) but this makes no difference. Today i tried switching off Antialiasing and Anisotropic Filtering, LFS ran okay almost all the day, but in the evening i had one freeze again.
I heard most people having these freezes have an nforce chipset on their motherboard, maybe this is a hint ? I am using a nforce 2 chipset (Asus A7N8X).
I am going to try another Gfx-card at the weekend, maybe it helps...
I experience the exact same behaviour you described since version S (and the later versions).
Yesterday was the worst day so far, LFS crashed every few mins, and my PC is not overclocked in any way, i never had a single crash or freeze of LFS with any of the older versions.
I was racing in South City with FXO (i don´t know if its related, i got freezes on other track/car combos as well, but not so often).
When it happens the screen freezes (showing the same screen all the time) and the sound loops the last 0.5 sec again and again. A few seconds after that the gfx-card is giving no VGA-Signal anymore (Monitor switching to standby-mode) and the PC totally freezes (only reset-button helps)
. On a few occasions my gfx-card seem to recover after a few seconds (maybe due to the ATI-GPU-recovery function in the driver), but mostly the PC totally hangs then.
MY PC:
Athlon XP 3200+ (Barton i think)
ATI Radeon 9500 pro with Catalyst 6.4 drivers (without CCC)
1024 MB MDT DDR400 Memory CL2,5
LFS is working fine, maybe you misunderstood me (sorry for my bad english).
I have 2 versions of the font file in the LFS/data/abc folder :
One is named abc.abc (from the actual LFS-S2-patch, including new codepages)
and the other is named cba.abc for the modified S2-Viewer.exe and is copied from the S2-Viewer.
I found a way to have the viewer working in the LFS directory.
I searched for the name of the font in the S2Viewer .exe (abc.abc) with a Hex-Editor. I replaced the abc.abc string with cba.abc (for example) and copied the original S2-Viewer font file and renamed it to cba.abc and placed all the viewer files and directories in the original LFS directory (including the "new" fontfile). Viewer is now working in LFS directory.
Its not causing any problems (yet), so i think its safe.
I also had a Radeon 9250 after my 9800pro had died (it was cheap and i thought it will do the job), but the 9250 card is really crap. I replaced the new 9250 with a old 9500 pro and even this old gfx-card is much faster than the 9250.
There is no resource for .raf files i am aware of, but you can download any hotlap from LFS-World (singleplayer replay file *.spr) and convert it to a .raf file.
To do so, log in to LFS-World, double-click on S2-Hotlaps, select the WR (world-record)-tab, select a track and click any displayed time to save the .spr to your harddisk. Copy that .spr to your LFS/data/spr folder. Start LFS, select replays/singleplayer and start thge replay of the .spr file. While replaying the .spr-file press ESC and select "Output to RAF" in the lap before the lap you want to export. The number of the fastest lap in the .spr is displayed in the upper right corner. After the replay of the wanted lap, a .raf file is saved
in the LFS/data/raf folder.
I have got a similar problem with my computer. In about 1 out of 10 computer restarts my real time clock is running 20% too fast. Then every timer in Windows runs 20% too fast, including LFS (you can see the mentioned online "hickups" then, offline its just running too fast) and any other game and the Windows Clock. Usually the problem is gone after a restart and even the time is corrected by the BIOS-RTC, so that after a restart the fast running clock displays the right time again. I dont know what is causing this. Its an ASUS Mainboard with nForce2-Chipset and AMD Athlon XP 3200+ (Barton).
Oops, sorry, it was indeed another program. I installed a trial-version of WinDVR a few days ago and it placed a scheduler in the autostart, so i removed it and everything is fine again...
With P8 i can´t use my CTRL+F1, CTRL+F3, CTRL+F6 keys anymore. All other keys work fine. I am using a german Windows but in LFS i am using english translation, but the bug still exists if i switch to german translation.
Another thing, that might be a bug is in the new textbox when you hit "T" :
If you press one of the new buttons to select codepage (msg-codepage or def-codepage) and select "cancel" in the codepage-selection-box, any F-key pressed after that will be sent, but the textbox will not be closed as usually (it will be closed if you dont select one of the new buttons before).
Another thing i noticed since P5 (i think) is, that i lose my ForceFeedback when i install a new patch. This never happened before. To get ForceFeedback back, i have to turn it off and on again in the options/controls screen once, after that it just works fine again (My wheel is a Microsoft FF).
BTW: Thanks for avoiding the beep on Scroll-Lock...
I have a problem with a special key in LFS in the latest patches :
I was used to have my "Scroll Lock"-Key on keyboard as a "Push to Talk"-button in Teamspeak (because its not used by any other program).
It never interfered with LFS before the latest P-Test-patches.
I tried Teamspeak now with the latest P7-testpatch and when i press (and hold) my Scroll-Lock-Key i repeatedly get the "not-assigned-button-error-sound" in LFS (I hope u get what i mean), so its impossible to use it as PTT-Button anymore.
I think it is related to the new language extensions, cause it worked before and maybe the recognition of the keypresses is different than before.
Is there another solution to the problem than mapping a different button ?
True, error only occurs when private servers are shown. I remember when first encountered this bug yesterday evening, i set the filter to show empty servers too (which i usually dont show) and as many private servers are empty the bug occured.
Ok, i just checked the Demo-servers another time :
LFS says that it is checking 91 servers, can join 88 servers, noreply 2 wrong version 0
LFS-World says there are 101 servers online, should the number not be the same ? (I checked directly after closing LFS).
I dont know how the serverlist is ordered while checking the list, but the flooding of the "could not find host messages" begins after just checking a few of the 91 displayes hosts.
The main problem is, that LFS never finishes checking the hosts. Otherwise we simply could join existing servers on the list (As said before "join a specific host" is still working)
Edit: i know where the difference between LFS-World and LFS comes from. I looked for the number of all servers in LFS-World and not only for 0.5P / 0.5P2 servers. So the number of 0.5P / 0.5P2 matches the number displayed in LFS.
Strange thing, the same problem still persists for me. I get at least 15 "could not find host" messages (only the last 15 are shown on screen like in chat history, i think). LFS never finishes checking for hosts.
I tried to join a few servers by entering their names in "join specific host" and it works there, so the servers must be there.
Maybe it would help, if the name of the host, that LFS can´t find, is displayed in the message too.
