Quote from Bluebird B B :Modern cpu's throttle down when they overheat. There is a change your systems will be a lot faster if you fix your cooling problem. Since all components are hot, try running your system with all side panels removed and see what happens. Offcourse make sure your system is safe, since without the panels your system is very vulnerable to small children for example

Having said that, your current system is slow compared what you want to buy except for the graphics card so it will still be nice to upgrade. As others suggested, look for a 5xxx series ati card. Guessing from what you tell, suggest etc. i think the 5770 will be the best choice for you. You could buy an comparable nvidia card, but you won't have directx 11 and you wont save any money and it won't be more reliable or less reliable.
My old system is built into a antec 900 gamers case, it is a very good case, cooling is excellent and also is the built-quality. What i don't like, building a complete system into it is very time consuming. Took me 4 hours(!) But it is worth the effort.

note: thx for the compcln.exe suggestion, freed 3gbyte with it on my old system.

I would remove side panels if they were there to remove. It's a laptop.

Quote from Gunn :@ GreyBull: while your first post is well written, your thread title comes across as being hostile and is likely to attract negative posts from the wider community.

@ members: If you don't have a relevant opinion to post, or you can't post it without personal insult, or you just want to vent your ten year old temper on everybody who posts on this forum, piss off.

Good point with the title. Never noticed it, but now you mention it, I agree.

And the rest of your post made me lol. Straight to the point :P

Quote from matijapkc :Those temp aren't good at all... I had same thing but only with CPU. It came by itself, few weeks ago it gone by itself, but really got a cooling problem.
And about free space... Is your PC taking ages to load a folder? I'm just curious because you actually have no free space...

Been this temp. for months.

And yes, it takes ages to load up. Surprised it still runs.

Quote from arco :Checked your cpu fan for dust lately?
Download and run CCleaner to free up some space.
Also if you're on Vista SP1, you can run vsp1cln in a command prompt to further free some space, or if you're on Vista SP2 run compcln in a command prompt.

Dust free, I tried that.

CCleaner can only do so much, I use it daily

What does compcln do in SP2? I don't want to wipe things randomly.

I liked it. Wasn't the best ever, but you can only get better

It was a bit short, and the quality was pretty bad. I mean, it could have used a bit of anti-aliasing.

Quote from GreyBull [CHA] :Unfortunately I can't afford iRacing and anyway, I just love LFS more than I could enjoy iR. But there are interresting ideas in iR that the LFS devs could consider.

I'm stuck with the same situation as you, so I can only use LFS. iRacing looks great and if LFS had more devs, it would be able to keep up and also improve to similar levels.

Quote from GreyBull [CHA] :IMO, either you decide to act like a big company and let the community deal with its own forums, or you decide to stay close to the community and take some of your time to answer to the fans etc.

The thing is, if you are willing to follow option n°1, you actually have to maintain a place where you actually tell people what

I have the feeling LFS can't really decide between the two options unfortunately, which ends up in a messy public relation system.

I agree. They're acting like a big company, but they're only small. The phrase "Acting too big for their boots." springs to mind.

Quote from franky500 :Fantastically worded post In fact its probably the best post i have seen around here in a while... But it is just another one of the many "I'm bored, give me new content" threads.

I agree with the first bit, but I disagree that it's a "give me more content" style thread. I think he (Greybull) is highlighting what he feels should be done to improve the relationship between Scavier and the consumers, and I would agree the bond between 3 devs and the users of their product, that have paid for it to help pay their bills, is a bit lacking. I would personally like to see this increased.

Quote from franky500 :@ EliteAti... I beg to differ, Theres been plenty of moderation going on, Although you might not notice it due to the amount of bad users currently stalking the forums.

Recruitment time for more moderators perhaps?

Quote from GreyBull [CHA] :[*]Last thing, if any troll is going to act in this thread, I would sincerly ask him to realise that he would not have the balls to do so if he was in front of real people, instead of his computer screen.
2) The official forum is not properly moderated and became an heterogeneous melt of trolls, perverts and kids thinking that LFS will help them to sort their childish problems, mixing with legitimate LFS lovers willing to share their passion with other people.

What can be done about it:
  • Be harsher with offenders. If someone do not have enough maturity to hang out there, warning, and then, ban.
  • Hire new moderators, as the current ones seem to be running out of motivation.
  • Remove problematic and offensive posts/threads.

I do agree with some points, a few more updates would be nicer, but I don't expect this and it probably won't happen. Maybe one a month would do.

Also, a three man dev team is cute and feels more homemade, but its not getting the job done as fast as the community seems to want. As said, a few more devs, even if it was just doubling the team size would help very much. Pick a few people out of the addons section, like Lynce, ask if they would help and see how it goes.

Thanks guys. Its becoming even more desperately needed by the day.

Take a look at the attachments and you'll see why.

I don't think the temperatures are very good, might just be me. They were taken after 15 minutes of Rigs Of Rods on lowest settings, lowest screen size, lowest everything.

The one with all of them on the one page is after being left to cool for 30 minutes.

Also, my hard drive space left

Don't want to get into overclocking, I'll break something.

Really thats my budget, £500.

I forgot to mention, for certain purposes I would like a silent machine, so the quieter the better.

I don't think I can really afford to upgrade very much, but I could try.

What could you suggest?
Will this work?

I know a fair bit about computers, but I amn't amazing and I want to make sure this will work. As far as I can see, it should, but I want to be sure.

Check the attachments for a list of what it is.

If you want I can post individual links.

Really, I'm just fed up with computers bought from shops that are boxes filled with the cheapest components available that then fail, and I want to do it myself so I know what I have and that it'll work.

Please don't argue that Nvidia are worse than ATi and Intel are worse than AMD, I don't care. I have used and trust Nvidia and Intel and I don't want to test something else really. I just want to know that it will all work well together.

EDIT: Forgot to say that I have an old shop purchased Packard Bell that broke, so I will hopefully take DVD drives, cables, anything else from it, along with another old few computers if needed.
