just surprised i havent found another topic on this yet. we have the lapper but i dont know how to get that working without entering some server that has it installed, and it's kind of confusing and doesnt really work as well as some i've seen in other games.

Quote from chavm481 :what about gt5P?

main problem is that i dont own a ps3 and i havent tried it. also why i havent included things like GTR in the list since i've never tried it. someone else is welcomed to give their opinions

Quote from Thunderhead :I can only agree about TXRD2. I was actually pleasantly surprised how good its physics are. Of course, not exactly on LFS or iRacing's level but for a PS2 game that doesn't even claim to be realistic they are really good.

If only we could get a hillclimb/touge road like Haruna or Nikko in LFS.... Fiat Abarth(stock, no aids) + Nikko= bliss.

orido and taniguichi helped work on the physics in that game, and it seemed to help. kind of like how surprisingly good LFS physics are with a 3 man team and really limited budget. while games like GT series get their million dollar projects and still have problems with their physics.

comparing drifting in various games

LFS: by far the most realistic. can use better tracks and a drift mode though, which we may get eventually. A follow cam would also be pretty cool.

GT5HD: I played with a control pad, for a few minutes and physics seem okay. the drift mode is a lot less forgiving than TXRD2 where you just nudge a wall lightly and lose all your points, and can't get any back(it was frustrating in that game when you come up with a near perfect drift and barely touch a wall without realizing on the way out). it seems that they managed to get an actual feel of sliding, which wasn't something i thought was possible

Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2: The most fun. I would rate this slightly more challenging than LFS and a little bit of a better trainer. the reason being that the roads are so narrow and theres so much drastic elevation changes, weather effects, and theres an actual drift mode which is punishing. It really teaches you to alter you steering angle, braking point, entry speed, etc for different elevation changes. Not to mention the indepth tuning options tend to make it easy to see what little changes can do such as decreasing/increasing weight, power, traction, etc. does have limitations of being a ps2 game.
drifting at night on touge roads, stormy weathers is fun, while flicking headlights. or drifting in the snow with race tires averaging 40mph is actually surprisingly fun and challenging.
The main physics flaws seem to be that accell off oversteer seems a little easy to initiate(atleast how I tune my cars), but still pretty hard to control. and your cars can also go on 2 wheels if you set it up with too much body roll, but thats fun to watch. The bug of going back to 1st gear when theres no acceleration for awhile can also be odd.

D1GP: semi fun but theres no actual drift mode unless you go battle with a friend/cpu or play the career mode. not really deep career mode or physics and the commentators are annoying. could have been a lot better. some exclusive courses such as ebisu was cool but suzuka was missing.

Enthusia: not bad for a ps2 game but not as fun as TXRD2 or as deep in tuning, and doesn't have a drift mode. it also doesnt capture the feeling of unstable cars and braking needed a little work

GT4: calling itself as The real life simulator. not really realistic though especially if you try drifting.

Drift City: most unrealistic but still a lot of fun, and it even tells you it's not realistic.

sure you should get it again if you enjoy it, or you can try txr0, or txrd2 if you like touge.

they are pretty cheap now since you can usually get them used for 5-15 each.

Not to mention that I played them more than any other games, and playing TXRD2 seems to be the best training for driving similators.

if you want better physics you should try drift 2 which was an attempt at being a touge simulator, with an arcade feel which was just a lot of fun.
not LFS quality physics but still awesome, and probably best on console so far since it was the only thing that managed to capture proper braking, unstable feeling, gravity changes with handling with elevation, etc. and having a drift mode, realistic touge tracks and a storyline is awesome. Want more awesomeness, the turn off headlights, flash high beem tricks actually work on the AI in this game. If it had multiplayer it would be really fun doing that to opponents.

the shoutoku series is awesome too but in a different way. driving thru traffic and flashing headlights. TXR3 just had the best AI in a console racer and the water/oil temperature gages are something that no simulator has included. It actually had better physics than GT4 which called itself a real life simulator too, since braking mid corners get your cars sliding, and countersteer properly to avoid it, and you can't go over 150mph easily.

Just wondering if there is any fan base of this series. Whether it's the original TXR series or the Drift series, which are pretty much completely different.

Quote from fusion1 :Fog, rain, wind, storms, but snow is unnessesary exept for rally. And afcourse night.Let put this headlamps to good use.

whether changes no matter where you are in real life. not limited to rally. and it's good to try driving in a simulator instead of realife in those conditions unless you are really confident of your skills.
Fog?

there have been other weather suggestions, so I thought how about fog. add some rain, snow, night and/or wind, and you'll have a really big challenge and have to know the track to prevent crashing.

I would disagree on Enthusia being better, but it's about preference.
TXRD2 had so much more customization(ABS, TCS, engine compatibility parts, steering angle, brake balance, weight, tires, etc), whether effects(stormy and fog which I havent seen in other games), less confusing career mode with some story, humour, initial D cameos, fun, & real courses(I like touge). handled unstable cars & braking was a lot better. Enthusia was close to GT4 on straights but just handled turning and gravity better than GT4, but was more light with gravity compared to TXRD2.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2/Kaido Touge no Densetsu(US/J names).

it's like GT4 on a touge, with some customization it doesnt have, a drift mode, and better physics. since cars can oversteer or understeer, get unstable on straights, theres a lot more sensitivity to gravity, brakes work properly, etc.
It's physics arent LFS quality but it's the closest thing you can get on a console that i've tried, and it's got a lot more content, and liscenced cars.

reverse heel toe
rotarydream
S2 licensed
just something i came up while trying to drive without my usual left foot braking every time. with and wanted to ask about. instead of the traditional brake with toe, gas with heel, i find it way easier to control the brakes with my heel and gas with my toes. seems like a more natural position for turning my foot.

so why is heel toe traditionally done the way it is, and is there a disadvantage for my way.

question about downloading custom tracks

just wondering how that works since it might determine whether i buy S1/S2.

i know there are layouts for some custom designs, but i'm not sure if theres something that really suits my taste after buying(more towards drifting than racing)
how do i activate dfp 900 degrees

you dont need a track for drifting, since you can drift on any track. just a specifc mode to get points for style without going off track.

preferably something curvy without much straights.

Quote from Gekkibi :Upcoming traffic? Like in NFS?
-1,000,000 for this if there must be traffic while racing in this kind of track.

i never said it was a must, I meant realistically, since most touge races are on public streets and done by non professionals. public streets mean that theres a possibility for it. or it may just be something like wildlife which you dont want to hit.

race at 2-4 am and you rarely see any other traffic. theres also no traffic in some of tsuchiya's old touge vids. i didnt expect traffic in a specific touge game. it'd probably be more like kaido battle than nfs which is a mix between sim and arcadish.

Quote from March Hare :You've been watching Initial D, haven't you.

it's common sense that there are sometimes leaves, dirt, black ice, etc which wont get cleaned up right away like on a circuit.
the main thing about initial d you can critisize is that it exaggerates the pace of showy drifts.

Quote from Gekkibi :Opinions, opinions. And it completely depends which one is harder, you can't compare them that way just because other has lots of downhills and other starts where it also ends... What if there is lot more declines and inclines in a circuit (But incline minus decline = 0) than in a very slope touge (And what if there are no turns in it, wouldn't that make it even "easier"?)...

touge also tend to have much narrower roads, and less room for error. you can run smack into a mountain or rolling off the cliff. run off a gutter easier, etc.
realistically it takes even more skill because you have to watch out for the occasional upcoming traffic unlike on a circuit. and you dont usually have a co driver to do it like a rallyist. which is why real touge drivers rarely go full out unless it's a private touge track. but since this is a game, that would be unneccessary.

circuit tends to have a lot of grass and tires walls to decrease the impact.

if you build a circuit on a bumpy road with steep slopes, it'll have to be on a mountain pass which would be like a touge. and you'll still need to make the roads narrower(yes it's almost impossible to pass on some touge passes which is one of the reasons for the leader/follower rule).

if a touge pass was completely straight i guess that owuld be easier, but as it stands, thats rarely the case. circuites almost always have more long straightways and less consecutive hairpins followed by high speed corners. not to mention sometimes things like falling leaves which makes the road more slippery.
