All is well. Downloaded the full version and just reinstalled(just copied over my skins and setups from the old dir). Now I get 30-60fps on a start and 60-120fps during a race. Feels much better. Not sure what was wrong with the old install, Id say I have had it for about a year, just installed the seperate patches.

So I guess if some of you have been doing what I have done, probably best to download the full version of the latest patch and reinstall. Just have to re-unlock it every time I spose. Ahh well, I will enjoy the demo with my new found FPS untill January.

Thanks for the help!

Even so when the grid thins out I only get 20-40fps. I wouldnt think that LFS is more CPU/GPU intensive then the Source engine or BF2. I know my CPU isnt the best, I plan on upgrading to an AM2 processor, but I think it should be able to handle LFS if it can handle CS:S and BF2 at the same settings and always maintain a good FPS.

What is the wheel rotation set to both in the driver and in LFS. If you have the rotation set to 270 in the driver and 900 in LFS, the guy will take ages to turn the wheel.

Maybe both are set to 900 and your not used to a 900* wheel? I dont think GPL supports 900*? I coudl be wrong.

With the DFP you have to recalibrate it if you unplug the USB cable(at least I did) otherwise it wouldnt react correctly in game. If its calibrated correctly in game and both the driver and LFS are set for the same wheel rotation then the rotaion of the DFP itself and the in-game wheel should be the same.

In LFS go to the options -> controllers. Recalibrate the wheel from there, make sure FF is enabled in the menus. Also make sure the rotation of the wheel in LFS is set to what you want(720*, 900*, ect) and not 270* like a standard wheel would use.

Sounds like a ram upgrade and a video card upgrade will help you out a lot. The TNT 2 is a very old card.

But my issue is with a brand new x1800XT 512mb. I will try those things mentioned above, I have tried the latest Omega drivers with no luck, uninstalled those and used the driver cleaner, then installed the latest Catylis drivers off the ATi site with the same issues.

In a normal car, the reverse gear is usually a straight cut gear. Your normal 1-5 gears are not straight cut, they have an angle to them. Straight cut gears are stronger and hold better. Races cars will most of the time have a trans called a 'dog box' which uses straight cut gears and uses a different method of transfering gears other then the synchros you would find in a standard transmission.

As for the sounds in LFS, I havent really paid attention in LFS to see if they are normal :P

Not sure if its just my PC or the res I am trying to run, but I dont have any problems in any other game at the same res. Specs on PC:

-AMD Sempron x64 3000+
-Gigabyte nforce 4 mobo
-1gb PC3200 ram
-120gb 7200RPM hd
-ATi Radon x1800XT 512mb

Graphics settings in LFS(and CS:S, BF2, Doom 3, ect) are set to:
-Res: 1680x1050(Native res on my monitor)
-Textures are on high, z-buffer is at 16
-4x AA, 4x AF

Not sure what else I need to post. But at starts of a 15 man + race my FPS is running at 8-12fps and continues to be at that untill the pack thins out. When running by myself or just with a few other cars in sight, it usually will be around 20-40fps. Seems like Ive only had this issue with the latest patch.

One thing I did notice is that with the 'V' patch, I had graphical glitches on the track, say starting with the steering wheel on back there was a blue flashing like the textures were missing, but above the steering wheel the textures were fine. To 'remedy' this, I set the 'Haze' option to No where as previously it was set to 'Yes'. Not sure what the 'Haze' option actually does.

My comuters resources are just fine, 2gb of 38gb used on my main HD, no virus or spyware, its a clean system. Only 34 process' running, nothing taking up the CPU.

Would it just be worth downloading the complete LFS 'V' and reinstall? Im out of unlocks anyway so I probably will do this. But like I said, I have no problems in any other games at this same res and detail, I always will have a constant 30-60+ FPS. Anybody have any tips for me?

Yah I used both, one after I installed the 'Patch U to V'. Then later that same night I reformatted and had to unlock it once more of course, but the second unlock, for some reason LFS was no longer patched with 'V'. It reverted back to the 'U' patch even though I had installed the 'Patch U to V' prior to reformatting. And finally after patching LFS back to 'V' I have to unlock it once more but am out of unlocks.

Thanks for the link joen, I will give it a try. Not extremely worried about it as I should get an unlock once January hits correct? I probably can be happy playing the Demo untill then. Thanks guys!
Out of Licenses for the month

So I downloaded and installed the 'Patch U to V' yesterday, installed fine. Went to play S2, had to unlock it, I assumed due to the patch. Played for a few hours just fine. Decided to reformat my computer and add more space to my main partition(LFS is on a second HD), but of course when I got Windows re-installed I had to re-unlock S2, again no problem. But when I went to play it, it reverted itself back to the old patch and not the V patch. So I went and installed the 'Patch U to V' again and again it made me re-unlock S2, but this time I am out of licenses' for the month.

Is it normal for you to be required to unlock S2 again after Patch V? Is there a way for me to get S2 unlocked again before next month? I dont plan on re-formatting or installing any other patches anytime soon, I just want to play some S2 with the new patch. I love how the GTI sounds and running Fern Bay on the STCC servers rock!

If theres anyway to credit an unlock to my account I would greatly appriciate it

My roommate has a 99 VW Jetta that has the weird reverse engange ment. It felt so strange going into first for reverse! Id prefer my real car to have a standard reverse at the end of the gate.

Quote from the_angry_angel :Perhaps a decent wheel would change my recent abstinence towards LFS. I just feel like I'm not progressing any more.

Meh... I'm torn between getting one and not now. More so that I know of a place in the UK with 1 pre-order left and their shipment supposedly coming in tomorrow... The question is, will the bank balance survive if I do...

The G25 made me faster. After about 10 min of running it I put down a faster time on an Auto X course that Ive been running the past week with the DFP. Its so much easier to use then the DFP, the FF makes everything so smooth and fluid.

If you have the spare cash, buy one!

The change with the G25 is different. If you are coming from a standard 270* wheel, you will need a lot of practice to get used to a 900* wheel. If your upgrading from a DFP, I find it much easier to use and actually after about 5 minutes of getting the shifting and clutch down, I was actually faster then my times with my DFP.

I aggree with your thoughts on the shifter. It needs more resistance in the shifting. Nothing drastic, just more resistance so you can feel where your going. But after using it, its easy to figure out which gear is where and I hardly ever mis-shift. The buttons on the shifter are a bit awkward, they could have done a better job at implimenting them. I probably will only ever use the lower 4 red buttons, one for the rev limiter, one for the cars fuel, tires, and pitstop info. I dont really care for the mounting hardware though. I have a glass desk and is somewhat thin. The clamps only clamp down so far and i cant clamp it down tight unless I put something under ths shifter to raise it up a bit(I used about 5 CDs). Doesnt really matter though as I am going to build a new cockpit in a few weeks and impliment the shifter into the pit.

The pedals are great for what they are. I have no problems heal-and-toeing. I have size 13 feet and just use socks and have no problem at all reaching the brake and gas pedal with the same foot.

Other then the slight defect mine had in the wheel, I think its a very good buy for the price. The shift could use a bit more engineering, but the wheel is pretty darn close to perfect. I love the feel(dont have the thumb chaffing like you did). The overall diameter is great, its at least 1" larger in diameter and does indeed feel like more like a real wheel(not stock, but an undersized aftermarket wheel).

I think that about somes it up.

I ordered mine from Dell on Monday and received it today. If you go to Dell small business, its instantly 10% off which makes it $269 + $25 shipping + $14 tax, go on eBay and they sell Dell Small business: 20% off Accessories coupons for cheap. So with the additional 20% off, it will put it around $250-260 depending on shipping and tax methods. Not bad at all

And I love my wheel, but I got a defect, something heavy was dropped on it(so it looks, may just be a manufacturing defect) as the steering wheel in the 2 o'clock area is bent in. Dont notice it at all during driving, but I am in the process of getting a new one from Dell. BTW the box was in perfect condition, not damaged at all, good fast delivery by DHL

I am having the same issue. With the DFP, using the profile above, none of the mapped buttons work. I have used the Profilter before and it worked fine. I tried uninstalling the profiler, downloading it again off the Logitech website, but it still doesnt work. I have the profiler starter before I run LFS, but it doesnt matter as the mapped buttons never work.

What am I doing wrong?

I am using the front USB ports on a POS dell so I will try the back ports and if I get a new PSU for my main rig before Monday I will try it on that. If it still acts up I will just take them back Monday. I miss my Act Labs pedals
Logitech DFP and braking lag/throttle drop!!
sethmobr
S2 licensed
From all the ranting and raving I have heard about the DFP from GT4 and LFS racers I finally decided to break down and buy one. I gave my old Logitech red Momo Force to my friend thinking I wouldnt miss it, but I am having problems with the brake pedal in LFS. It seems to lag a lot and is very sensitive. The gas pedal is fine, I can rev and hold the rev at any certain RPM, but if I wanted to do it with the brake pedal I cant. Theres only a few points that the brake pedal can find if that makes any sense. Even in the Game Controllers -> DFP properties, pressing the brake pedal doesnt respond as it should.

And every once in awhile(at least once per lap or two) I will have the gas pedal floored and in LFS it will just drop to 0%. I have to back off the throttle for a second or so then get back on it.

Did I just get a bad set? They were fine for the first hour or two playing, but now 3 days later I am having all these problems. Also, I find in the driver that there is no way to calibrate the wheel. So am I just fine with calibrating it through LFS? Even after calibrating it through there it doesnt help at all. Im probably just going to take the wheel back to Gamestop tomorrow and see if I can get a swap.
