Quote from col :I think there is something that has been ignored so far.

The market sector for LFS is NOT the same as that for most PC and console games !
It has been shown many times that a significant percentage of LFS users are older people who have financial responsibilities such as car, family, mortgage. Many of these folks are not 'gamers' and cannot justify regularly updating their system just for a 'game' (however good).

(There are also many licenced racers from less afluent countries where a high end PC system is definately a luxury)

Scavier obviously understand this which is why they have made sure from the outset that LFS works well on low end and older systems.

whats more LFS doesn't 'need' cutting edge graphics, its appeal is in its physics, the LFS community and a great online experience - none of which depend on graphics.

All of these are good points, col.

I still see room for improvements outside of the look of the game, and more for the engine its running on. It seems a bit laggy when there is a lot of cars together and that could be improved. Another thing is providing basic racing setups that aren't slow or hard to drive like the current defaults. Its very difficult as a newcomer to setup your car and learn how to drive at the same time.

I think this is a great game that just needs a bit of work on the edges to stay competitive.

I think moonclaw is demonstrating exactly why other people like the STCC system. It keeps people with no common sense out of the racing.

You always have the option of not going in the server if you don't want to.

Quote from Becky Rose :I have now given up with insim until it has been completed. STCC has no choice but to close.

I would like to bring the servers back in the future, but I have to save my home first.

That's sad to hear Becky, I missed that post before I posted, but I am very upset to hear that. I am sure the community will come out and help any way they can.

If I can race anywhere, I choose STCC servers. They are very well regulated and I almost always find a clean race. I think they should expand the current STCC, but as the community has said, some people just don't want a system that filters out the n00b crashers. People might just want to race any car they feel like without demonstrating that they can, therefore not wanting a licensing system.

To each his own, I think the way it is now, having both options is great, but as I said I would like to see the STCC expand in some areas.

There's this game mode where you can drift all day... I think they call it Rally Cross, you should check it out! No but really, it makes more sense than ripping through a pair of tyres in less than 10 minutes.

Edit: Hey good of you to make a web site and you're willing to help people though, I should have mentioned that. I think drifting is just as fun as Rally, but it seems sort of pointless to "try" to lose control of the rear end. :biggrinfl

You can't really rely on your mirrors while cornering, you have to realise when someone is driving next to you. The best way to know where they are is to use headphones or turn up the volume a bit so you can hear exactly where the other car is. I always do a quick head turn just to make sure right before I apex a corner so I don't hook someone into the wall and ruin their race. Accidents do happen though, you just have to know when it truly was an accident.

The way I drive, I can't use auto shifting. I need to hear the engine to know exactly how fast I'm going and when to shift. I rarely look at the gauges, I'm all about the sounds! Without manual shift I am just not as focused on my speed and control on the track. I can't corner properly without manual shifting, probably because I can't use my gears to slow down the car. I also can't exit corners properly or regain control of tyre spin without manual shift. In fact, I would lose control of the car with auto shifting turned on, it is the opposite of helpful to drivers like us.

I'm just wondering if that was a joke? Or is that just the slogan for it?

This is for the XR GT. Its my third skin for LFS and its following the Castrol theme. Its a little bit less sponsored than my GTi skin, but that's because the GT is sort of the underdog of the XR class.

I made a carbon-fibre body and added some dirt along the edges. Hope you like it! I also added a high-res skin for you to see. Feel free to use the skin on your car, but please do not modify it. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

After reading this post a few days ago I am better at cornering while in tight situations and my lap times have improved! Thanks for bringing it up Mykl, because it puts light on that shady area of racing.

One more point: People should always say sorry if they accidentally bump someone! I get bumped off the track once in a while, sometimes with no acknowledgement at all. At least say you're sorry if you didn't mean it. It makes a big difference to the attitude of the race.

Well okay, Logitech G25 wheel would be sweet, no doubt about that.

I agree here, not as much about the image of the game but expecially about the scenery of the rally races. I am not a fan of rally but a mountain side track would be fabulous, I'd probably get into that.

Quote from Tinytacohead :Yeah, definitely gonna do that - just being lazy I guess, lol.

You are being inconsiderate to people who might actually want to help you. Get some rest, download and install the full game and patches, update your sound card and motherboard drivers, then come back here and let us know the outcome.

You know, there is a feature that you can use to "Edit" your posts instead of doing what most people refer to as spamming. Just a suggestion though, please feel free to catch the attention of a Mod if you rather.

I haven't had this problem. Please post your computer specs at the very least and be sure to update your sound card and motherboard drivers as well.

Could be a number of things. Most likely overheating.

Open up your computer, get all the dust out! There will be dust clinging on to your fans, clean it all off. I had so much dust on my CPU fan, I had to take it off the heat sink and pick it all out. There was no air getting through to the CPU and it was overheating and shutting down automatically to protect the parts.

That's likely what's happening here, overheating, but it could be something to do with your drivers. Just do a quick update on your drivers. Search Google for your card name, ie. "driver download [your card name here]" for your video card and sound card, and motherboard while you're at it.

Hope you get it fixed, I miss racing with you on STCC1a qoncept!

Those skins need some work still compjake, they don't seem complete yet.

No comments or suggestions for my skin? It took around 8 hours to complete.

Nice work everyone! That ING skin is very nice! The Dr. Pepper is nice too, good work!

Okay so since I am new here, I drive the XF GTi a lot right now. Trying to improve my lap times, but I was hoping a pimped skin would help. So without further ado, I bring to you my second skinning creation: The Castrol GTi.

I appreciate your feedback, this is my second skin for LFS. I also have a high-res version available, feel free to use it on your car but please do not modify.

Edit: Did some minor changes to the details and added a matching helmet. Lightly painted dirt on the lower-res skin for a bit of texture.

I have been really enjoying the STCC server so far, its very fun. At first I found it difficult, but I'm getting the hang of it and improving my lap times. I must have been in a bad mood or something when I hinted that I don't like this game, because I actually really like it a lot. I'm going to buy S2 next week, hopefully I can improve my license until then. I appreciate everything you guys are doing to make the game more enjoyable, keep up the good work. Thumbs up

So you would disagree with me, that lowering the price would in fact increase their profit? Its all based on the simple theory of supply and demand. I see more people racing demo versions than licensed versions. Why is that? If it was cheaper to buy, more people would probably buy it and then you would make more money in the long run. Plus the community would be more put together.

S1 is a nightmare right now. You should allow S1 players to connect to S2 servers and only use S1 cars. That would make a lot more sense than having only 1 server to play in regularly.

You know what I have been a jerk here, so I'm sorry to the community for acting so negatively. For what its worth, I'm probably going to buy S2 soon and S3 when it is released. I shouldn't take such a negative stance on this game, its actually quite good in a lot of respects. I have recommended it to people for being a very good simulator with a very well-polished online mode.

I see a lot of people trying to act like Gran Turismo isn't the most successful racing simulator ever made. What's with that? Get your heads out of your arses. Maybe you could learn something from Polyphony Digital. Better graphics, better cars, better sounds and better tracks equal one kick ass racing sim. And yeah, you're right, after playing GT for years and years, this game lacks what I'm looking for in a racing sim. Maybe it really isn't the game for me, even though I love racing sims.

You are entitled to your opinion that this is the best game out there, but I'm just pointing out that you are the minority. The majority are playing Gran Turismo 4 and the new GT for the PS3 is coming. Why didn't Polyphony release a new GT with the PS3 yet? Because they are doing what you people are preaching. They are taking their time and making sure it is top notch quality, as usual.

The point is that this game should not be priced the same way Gran Turismo is, because I'm forced to compare the two titles. Games that come in a box (fresh new game smell? game poster? you know, a boxed game?) are often priced high because of the extra production costs, but that money is put in the hands of people that work and feed their families. What justifies a high price when I know for fact it is a fraction of the cost to distribute it online this way. No printed manuals, no printed boxes, no distribution facilities, yet the price is still set high. Seems like a rip off to me.

I totally disagree with everything you have said, Joen. Fair enough, I'm not going to act like a 12 year old and tell you you're an ignoramous or something foolish like that.

I really have no idea what you're trying to explain. Basically I'm saying this game is a giant bore and its over priced. You say they don't add more content or real cars because they care about quality and can't afford the licensing. Well Gran Turismo is higher quality than this in my opinion, and in millions of other people's opinions too, and they have real cars in it, not some made up fake cars that don't exist.

You're not going to be able to convince me that this game is something its not. Simply put, if you enjoy racing fake cars, this is the game for you. Its not anywhere near comparable to Gran Turismo, that much is clear.

Nah, they distribute it online because no one will publish and distribute it through retail chains. Its only half a game and its over priced. I won't be upgrading to S2 anytime soon, I'm very disappointed in S1 right now.

I could barely read SpaceMarine's broken translation, but basically he's got it all wrong. Games you buy in the store have more content and they come in a box. Racing games are notoriously bad, the only one that lives up to its name is Gran Turismo. This game just needs more cars, better cars, more tracks and more fun.

Right now its awfully boring running in circles in slow cars that don't even exist in real life. Can't you get a Honda Accord, a BMW M3? What's the deal with these no-name cars? Anyway, I guess I'm finished with this game now, it was short lived.
