1. Unplug steering wheel
2. Uninstall steering wheel software
4. Go to My Computer > Local Disc > Program Files > Delete folder (if there is any) relating to your steering wheel. Such as 'Genius Software'.
3. Restart PC
4. Plug in the wheel
5. Install the steering wheel software
6. Calibrate the wheel for LFS and try LFS. If its working at this point, you know its not the wheel or driver/software. If it still doesnt work at this point, please reply to this message telling me it isnt.
7. If its working, make sure you have the latest richard burns rally patch. Download the patch here;
8. Try RBR with the wheel after patch installed. If the game breaks your wheels force feedback as it did originally, please again reply to this explaining.
EAX = Environmental audio extensions - Simulates real world environments, such as underwater etc.
SVM - Smart Volume Management - Dynamtically changes the volumes of certain objects/entities to emphasize some. I have tried these settings on a few previous soundblasters but they arent as good. To give you an example of how it works, I turned it on when playing COD4, I actually looked through the settings after my original post on this thread and realised it wasnt on. In contrast to it on and off, when on it was easier to tell if there was a grenade landing close to me, easier to tell if there was someone running up to me etc, simply because it increased the volume of these. This obviously only applies to games.
Crystalizer - http://www.behardware.com/arti ... 6/creative-labs-x-fi.html
Like the review says though, it doesnt really effect much, but it doesnt degrade sound at all unless like Jakg said...you have the setting too high where it then creates distortion of high frequency sounds.
CMSS - Tries to simulate either surround sound on stereo speakers (this is though, I admit, trickery of the mind; sometimes works, sometimes doesnt work, but it IS better when its on).
The better feature of CMSS is that it will upscale stereo games to 5.1 or 7.1. It only takes the faint/quiet/far back sounds on the left and right speakers and then sends them to the back, simulating this. Using this on 2/2.1 speakers and the SVM setting together on games that dont support surround does work very very well.
They arent marketing gimmicks, they work even if they do need improving.
On the X-230 note, the subwoofer is overpowering, but simply change the mixer on whatever soundcard to compensate, although I like my bass loud for music but luckily the soundcard comes with entertainment and game modes . The 2 med/high speakers produce very good, clear mid and high tones and dont break up on high volume. I guess some speakers that cost a mere £20-30, you wont be impressed till you hear them, all I can say is they are very gooood
Back onto topic though, thats a nice setup, looks too expensive for me but would love to have a triple screen load out. Just out of curiousity, do you think the extra money and effort was worth it?
Yes I get worried about the shifter, I have got used to it now and started using it like a PC controller.
When any of my friends come round though its a cringe to watch them smash it about like a real one, not that its thier fault, it should have been designed to be fairly stiff.
I am just wondering if anyone out there has done some simple self-modding to the gearbox to make if feel more real and endure more.
That really is the only dissapointment with the G25 for me, the lightness (not to say flimsy though) of the H-shifter.
Its a mixture of all the settings put together that you dont normally get; crystizer/svm/EAX/CMSS, also X-230 speakers sound amazing, forget the price these are some of the best speakers I have ever had and thats including hi-fi systems, I am just hoping someone can hold me to that statement
Also regarding the crystalizer, there is a difference but its not really that big and you cant really tell in games. Listen to some more instrumental pieces of music on entertainment mode with crystalizer on and there is a difference, it just depends if your listening to the bits it generally enhances, mainly the drums, you wont really tell the difference with electronic music.
And when you say, I have non-onboard sound....is your soundcard an X-fi?
Quite good, but tbh 2.1, a decent set is just as good and not to say 'decent' means expensive. Even better is some very good headphones I guess, like Sennheisers.
I have a Logitech 2.1 X-230 system running through an X-Fi Fatality Pro card, they sound f**king amazing tbh, I've had them for a few years now and the ONLY upgrade I have been thinking about is these speakers but from 2.1 to 5.1 setup.
The X-fi card too, as I am sure with some slightly older soundblasters have CMSS-3D, which ups 2.1 games to 5.1 with good results, and even ups sound quality through the Crystalizer option...which actually works
Basically though my point is, the sound from these speakers is only as good as what your computer outputs. You'd be surprised just how much difference there is from onboard sound (even high def) to a decent sound card such as x-fi. I was amazed
Each card is different as already said, even some of the same type cards...certain factors such as case ventilation/cooling, card fan, room temperature, power supply etc.
There is no real way for us to tell you some specific numbers or even rounded numbers for your card mate, its something you'll need to tweak yourself.
All you really need to know is, artifacts means your pushing it too far and if you smell burning silicon (very unlikely) just run away.
For sure the PS3 isnt actually expensive....price up a blue-ray player, a PC with the sameish potential in spec, a media centre etc....its a bargain....and I am not being sarcastic.
As already stated above though the PS3 doesnt have many good games, GTA IV....granted.....not worth the price of the console on its own, GT5....hmmm its good....LFS is better and I already have that, what else? COD4, already have that and it looks beautiful on my computer.
What exactly am I missing from the PS3 against the PC? Nothing, just GTA IV, which is good but not great, console games come to an end but I am still playing Quake III arena on my PC, a game I played back when I was still playing final fantasy back on my PS1.
This is the PC era of gaming, where they care about the gameplay and gamer needs (Except EA obviously), and I think LFS is a shining example
if its artifacting around 395 I would be safe and do like 380, you shouldnt melt the chip tbh, they can withstand quite a lot past the point it artifacts anyway.
Same here, I would prefer a better PC....so I will wait got GTA IV to come on the PC...I dont think atm though my PC could handle something like that having seen what its like on the consoles...buts its reyt.
GTA IV is by far the best console game I have played in years....its almost makes me want to buy one
The physics as already stated on here are almost perfected for GTA I think...within the surroundings of Liberty City, all the obstacles, all the crazy corners, all the stunts needed to be pulled to get away from the cops you cant have simulation, however they have added realism where they felt it added more depth to the game and added arcady physics...such as strong car traction to make the game playable.
The only problem I see if the FPS slowdown when going very quickly through busy areas....ecspecially when your on the full 1080p HD quality resolution, luckly though the blurring effect helps alot into smoothing out the gameplay in these situations.
Also.....have any of you tried to drive when he's drunk? I did actually make me feel sick
10/10 game, anyone with XB360 or PS3 should get it...one of the best games I have ever player and certainly the best game for either of these consoles...until timesplitters 4 ()
This idea is probably not new, its just too simple, but it takes the somewhat lacking use of the forums to advertise events, tournaments and leagues.
Why is it lacking you say?
Well in explanations on how to enter events, the forum allows the organiser to put exactly what he/she wants, which is good, people can read the specifics, however through all the sub-forums and all the random banter I cant help but notice this somewhere loses key organisation.
Now I am not stupid, I can read the forums and find out upcoming events but it could be so much easier....
What is your idea?
A simple management system accessable by all using LFSWorld.net. A table that gives, simple...clear and easy to find information on upcoming events/tournaments/leagues.
All posted and edited on by the event runners themselves.
This would allow say the LFSer looking for a race to go on, look for a certain date and find events matching. All the included information in a 'bite-size' form, such as start time, duration, car type, race type, laps etc...maybe even a reminder set with email notifications on tagged events...
Obviously all coded to work with timezones derived from personal LFSworld settings, maybe even sign up sheets if the event runner requires it...
But why?
Do you not think LFS could use a system like this? Giving YOU as someone looking for information like this, would you prefer it to be this simple?
I hate the browsing through all the league websites, realising I have to sign up to yet another forum etc, wouldnt it be better if it was all in one place?
In after effects all I can do is predict, but I can certainly say there will be at least 1 more participating in specific events
This isnt exactly true, some games...about half of them are cheaper and obviously when bought from steam are instantly available for download and it will autoupdate them for you. I picked up san andreas for real cheap off there a couple of months ago, and it still remains cheaper than even play.com atm.
You have de-railed abit here though onto a steam problem, and forgot about LFS only being available as an internet download anyway.
Now I see the problem with CSS players etc maybe downloading the demo and using it stupidly, but in my prediction your going to get this anyway when showing LFS to so many people who have instant access to its download without even looking which steam allows you to do...
Another point I would like to argue with yours is this....I have bought many games off steam on impulse...games I wouldnt normally buy, even if they are on special offer, right there, right then. I fancy playing a strategy game....woops, dont have one...lets see whats on steam...and an hour later I was playing Civilizations IV, steam had made a sale and I didnt have to wait for the disc to arive. I was drunk with my friends here, we wanted to do something, we bought Doom3 (well I bought :P) off steam, downloaded it within the hour, turned the lights off and had a right laugh and this is all true. You cant do this buying from an online store, you dont have so much accessability. Someone fancies a good racing game..."oh look, Live for Speed, is it really that realistic? Cool an unlimited time demo, well might as well try it"...and the rest follows on.
Providing LFS gets the credibility it deserves on Steam (via the use of metareviews to backup the claim of the one true simulator) I would like to predict a vast increase in sales.
