Quite a lot of cars have a carbon front, and the big teams go for a full carbon monocoque, but they have considerably more money/support than us. Graz estimate the worth of their car as a few hundred thousand Euros, and we spend <£30k. Considering we beat them in 2009 (though neither of us finished last year) I don't think we're doing too bad.
Pretty sure the MRT5 in LFS is a spaceframe car, our car is an aluminium honeycomb monocoque at the front with a spaceframe rear end. Hopefully it'll drive a bit nicer than the MRT too!
We're trying to come up with a livery for our new Formula Student car, and we're having a bit of a colouring in competition here at uni.
For a bit of fun I wondered what's the best anyone here can do, I know how much some of you love skinning cars in LFS.
So head over to the link in my sig and grab one of the renders of our new car from the gallery, fire up Photoshop and post the results! Our colours are black/red/white, so please stick to that. I've attached a few of our quick ideas so far.
Never met a nicer "famous" person than Webber, so it has to be him. Always has the time of day for people and doesn't talk crap or make excuses when he messes up.
That "thing" you're talking about is at least a centimetre thick piece of carbon fibre/honeycomb. It also has a large aspect ratio. Even a few plies on either side would be enough to make it extremely stiff. You are never going to see that wobble in the wind. One reason it's there is to stop the cars from taking off when going sideways, it's got to support a huge amount of pressure.
It's not been so bad. I had a problem with the gearbox/clutch which I got ripped off on (I don't have the space to take a gearbox out at home) but otherwise it's fine... aside from a non-functioning passenger window and dash clock.
Gets about 30mpg on a motorway at 70-75, which is lower than it should have got new. Also it only has 75hp, but I honestly don't care as it's such a nice place to be.
The governing body of NASCAR has finally seen the light and announced a switch to fuel injection with McLaren ECUs in 2012. It's good to see them make at least a few changes to keep the cars relevant to current road technology.
I'm sure there will be a few jokes about the lack of technology in NASCAR, but before you make them: You're wrong. Carburettors may be old school, but the engines in NASCAR are operating at similar MEP values to those in F1. Yes, the cars may be completely detached from reality, and there are areas that could do with updating; but the level of engineering in aerodynamics and other areas is huge.
It gets bloody hot everywhere inside the engine cover of an F1 car, so they're used to dealing with heat. The only "cool" place is outside or in the cockpit, and even that can be 50+C.
One thing I noticed which bothers me more than it should: In real life the RB6 has a separate display from the steering wheel, but in the game it's integrated within the wheel.
A video of what you're showing us out of context. Webber is at the right of the track long before Massa comes along. Schuey waited for Barichello to get close then pushed him over.
