LFS Pro Series - Season #1 2009

First of all a reminder for the people who are interested to take part in LFS Pro Series first season in 2009: The sign-up deadline is approaching and all the interested should have applied for their place by 24th January. To apply for a place in the series you can visit the LFS Pro Series website, log in (or register), and fill in a basic entry form to compete as an individual or as part of a team.

So far we have received 7 team entries including Renesis, XFusion Racing, Conquest Racing, Fluid Racing, Mercury #1 & #2 and Core Racing. Also several people have applied a place without a team.

The reason for sign-ups closing three weeks before first round is simple. We will spend couple of days going through the entries and pick up the drivers/teams that we consider capable of providing the level of commitment and racing required from the participants. The drivers and teams involved in test season 2008 will be placed on the top of this list. After the succesful applicants have been notified, they will have two weeks to submit their racing skins for each round containing the LFS Pro Series logos and race plates.

The important dates in coming weeks for LFS Pro Series:

1st January, Season 1 sign-ups open
24th January, Season 1 sign-up deadline
26th January, Succesful applicants will be notified
5th February, Booking-in for the first round opens, Deadline for submitting the skins for each round
12th February, Season 1 first round at 19.00UTC

For those who are unfamiliar with LFS Pro Series. The series is organized and run by Paulc2k and me(Sracer). However people can apply for an official/admin place if they want to get involved in helping and improving the series. We organized an private test season in 2008 where several drivers from teams like #low, F1rst(Vince was crowned as the winner of the season), Mercury, My3id, SK Gaming & Spdo took part. After the test season Paulc2k has spent hundreds of hours coding the features for the series to assure everything should work like we want when the season opening race kicks in. Also after the season post-feedback we received, we have come up with several improvements here and there, biggest of them being more effective communication between participants and the admins.

For more information head to www.lfsproseries.net, also some bits of information can be found from LFSPS section in Leagues&Events area.

Thank you, good work. I feel the decisions you came up with were the right ones

There were people who knew about this cheating before us, thanks to their research we also did find about it. As far as I know this was the case with a certain SK member hearing about it from some source and then directly confronting Scipy about it before the South City race. In the end its not relevant who knew first or before us, better to find out now than months later =)

Since we have discovered that one of our drivers(Scipy) in MoE has used an unfair advantage, we are left with no other option than ask admins to issue as a penalty, hopefully in form of points deduction from both races so far. I can only assure that we didnt know until the friday before South City race. We discussed about having a change in lineup and excluding the driver, but since we didn't have anyone to replace him we went into race with the original planned lineup. However we are quite sure he didn't use anything that could have brought him advantage in that race.

Whatever the admins decide as a penalty, we accept it. If the penalty is that we lose all our points which would be more than deserved we accept it. We certainly would like to continue on racing in the Masters of Endurance.

And lastly, we have to send out our apologizes to every team in MoE or any other series for what has happened. Sorry that it took this long to come out into public with the issue but we had so many other issues internally that we had to discuss first. Furthermore, the driver has been moved out of the Mercury team lineup and wont be racing anymore under the Mercury tag.

If admins have questions considering this issue, feel free to pm or contact me otherwise.

Quote :Tire heating is strongly limited to small, predictable movements, within that half a car frame. We will also increase the speed of the safety car on the straights to increase the tire temperature under braking.

Good luck reviewing all the complaints the teams supply against each other when they notice that the other one had more temp in their tires and whether he kept the heating in those restrictions you said (predictable/half car frame). This it is what youre basically asking for with rules like this. And tire temperatures dont really increase that much under the brakings unless you want us to flatspot them =)

Quote :On a second note we are also looking into a suggestion made, to include a warming up lap before the formation lap, but we are still examining that.

Thats just ridiculous. Nobody wants to do 2 slow laps in the tracks like ASGP(atleast I wouldnt), and actually it just increases the chance that somethin happens during those laps which you now try to prevent.

Quote from pearcy_2k7 :Ray, i didn't drive into any oncoming traffic if you watch the replay, in real racing your always told to keep your foot on the brake if you spin, then the people coming towards you can aviod you without playing guessing games.

Quote from pearcy_2k7 :There was no need for me to be on the brakes i was already at a standstill, what was i supposed to do? start reversing back and then someone that actually takes notice of a yellow flag and does aviod me gets hit?

How about the first thing you do is stay on the brakes and stand still as you already mentioned by yourself so nobody needs to play your "guessing games". You coming up with another excuse everytime someone points out youre wrong dont make you look any better a slightest bit.

When I first time saw what was after the corner, you were in the middle and the inside was open. But you were accelerating towards me which came to me as total surprise. I dont personally hold any grudge, I understand some people are prone to make mistakes under pressure like you did. And the impact to you wasnt the reason why our car got so seriously damaged, it was the lagbomber who hit me in the rear after that. However you played your role in the whole incident. You got penalty, we had to do an extra stop, and we now know what to be expected when we see you next time on the track.

Quote from traxxion :
We disagree, however, on the fact that this rule is applied with retroactive effect. One of the main reasons being that, during the race, drivers and teams were in the understanding that the results of the first part of the race would be taken into account in the final results. This has lead (and apparently now mislead) to strategical choices that are obviously irreversible now.

Agree, I was gonna say the same thing.

Anyhow, good you atleast try to come up with somekind of solution, but like some said already I also fail to see how this serves the best interest of everyone on the track. This is now 3rd different approach ive seen to solve this issue in MoE. Id have hoped you have had thought about this already before the season since it was obvious theres a chance server crashes happen. Instead you now decided to create totally new rule after the race while probably most of the grid thought you would handle it the way Traxx described.

Quote from Razvan :Well how fair would that be, to penalize a team, for a legit disconnect due to bad ISP. For example, my isp on the race day had a shitty line(my entire node was busy) which caused me to disconnect (or lag) several times, in the 1st sector... I wouldnt appreciate it if my team got penalized for my shitty ISP, because we still lost time, while i or a new driver reconected and drove out the pits.

How fair it is that a team even with a legit disconnect gets fresh engine, possibly repaired suspension damages, new tires and full fuel tank

Like I said, random disconnections happen and I dont really have good suggestions how to deal with it. For sure penalizing teams for a legit disconnect is bit harsh. But as far as i understood, admins were looking for a simple solution. Thats a time penalty based on something. Of course best option would be that the car with the damages stays on the server even the player drops out but thats something we dont have in LFS atm.

If shift-p/disconnects and rejoining were not allowed in qual you may aswell cut the qual session to 20-30mins. All the fastest time are done with fresh engines in the beginning of the session, unless of course you keep doing some major mistakes. After maybe 5 laps the gtrs start to lose their full potential and it makes the rest of the 1h qual pretty much useless imo. And like paulc2k said, what about then if people intentionally or not, crash or get stuck, its either shift-p or then what, qual over? The idea worked nicely in etm, but back then there was no engine damage or clutch heat, and the session was short(15mins or was it 20mins) anyway.

Maybe only way Id see it working would be to split the 1h qual into 3x20mins sessions or 2x30mins. Id prefer 3x20mins. That way drivers could shift-p after the 20mins is over and get fresh engines or the people who had to shift-p whatever the reason was during the 20min period could join the track again and have a new try.

About the disconnections in race, if the engine is damaged severly, you easily lose 2-3s a lap making it even upto 50s a stint on a track like asgp. No need to be a mastermind to see how big advantage it can give if its not penalized properly. For that however I dont really have any suggestions as the engine damage is not same for everyone and random disconnects still happen. And it can happen on the last sector which makes team lose alot of time. Maybe only penalize the disconnects that happen on the first sector or somehow count a time limit after you have passed the start finish line and then decide whether its worth of a penalty or not.

Just to clear up some stuff here, I talked to Arrow and just told my and teams view on the matter that the given times back then 20/21UTC isnt suitable for most of us in the team. The fact is that most of us in the team wants to keep the late evenings free.

And yes we are expecting competition and that is one of the reasons why we were ready to enter the league when being invited, but it dont make any sense to participate then if teams drop out just because the time doesnt suit them. To keep the motivation up there have to be the challenge there. We hope you can find suitable times for most of the teams, hopefully every each of them but as reading what been said here its hard and there gotta be compromises. The majority counts here and if the later start time is better, then just go with it. We will go with the decision whatever it will be made regarding the time or date and see what we can make out of it.

Cyber Racing would like to thank the MoE admins, Mika & Gamer-FM for live coverage, all the other teams&drivers we had a chance to race with. Personally I want to thank my team mates aswell for the effort they put down to change the course after the first two races. I can't say that we didnt do any mistakes or had any problems, but we were fortunate enough that those didnt cost us too much. It was nice experience to go through all this as a team.

It was indeed an amazing season and hopefully everybody enjoyed it. We surely did.

See you all next season

It was unfortunate what happened in 2nd lap which led me, Bawbag and someone from team XFR to retire. I suppose casper and chriskart didnt have clue that i was inside and tried to pass them since they went wide in first corner. Then I got hit in rear and for a moment I thought I survived it but then something happened and I just lost the rear and there was nuttin to do.

I'm especially sorry for Bawbag who didnt have any chance to avoid the collision but had to drive over me. If I could have done sumtin I would have.

Congratulations to prophet and other pool winners.

I experienced severe fps drop aswell in the first corners(<10) but then again my pc is not that good so I dont know which one it was.

Any ideas what caused the strange error message(out of stash space) and mass timing out after that in pool1 race2? Only 4 drivers out of 18 finished.
