Thats's a hypnagogic hallucination, commonly experienced during sleep paralysis but also on its own without the paralysis when waking up/falling asleep. This is commonly experienced by all of us as hypnic jerks when falling asleep.
As for the octopus on the bookcase thing, I read it some "tales of the unexplained" encyclopedia thing years ago. Now I know it was a result of sleep paralysis.
Interestingly I was talking to a girl I know last night (when I was too scared to sleep, thank you guys and Wikipedia!) about this and she said she had experienced sleep paralysis and the hallucinations separately- the SP felt like someone had their hand round her neck and she couldn't move (typically it lasted a minute) and the hallucination was of a ghost girl which was gone when she looked again. It's more common than i thought. Fascinating stuff to read about but scares you when you get into bed!
There's plenty of ways to do it- what you were describing in the WILD method that involves sleep paralysis. There's less scary ways to do it than that, look on Wiki
I'm worried that would make me a 'regular poster' and therefore gain a place on the sadness ratings. I'm only posting more because it's study leave I swear!
False awakenings? Never had 'em, but read about it on my travels of Wikipedia since this topic! Sounds scary...
Hint: Check your watch twice when awake and it should stay the same. If you think you're dreaming, check your watch twice. If you're dreaming it'll change. You can also check a mirror but I can imagine seeing a swirling mirror would be FAR scarier than seeing your watch change!
I find this stuff absolutely fascinating for some reason! Maybe because the greatest mystery of life is ourselves?
I read about that some time ago. Apparently it's caused partially by sleeping on your back. It's never happened to me but it sounds bloody scary (grim reaper walking into your room, octopus on your bookcase, alien on your chest etc) so I always make sure I sleep on my side!
These crashes weren't pre-planned- they just happened on a normal day. I didn't know at the time that some of the RB4 drivers were going to do stupid things.
It's also the cheapest quote I could find. First year, 17 year old guy with a hatchback (even if it is just a 51-plate Fiesta Zetec 1.25) in my own name = insurance companies don't want to know.
I've already paid this year's unfortunately (Pass Plus didn't bring it down either!), but next year I've seen quotes for £1600 fully comp in my name. This year I'm just sore because I'm paying £2200 for insurance that DOESN'T ACTUALLY COVER MY DAMN CAR! Bloody third party.
Ah well, in a few years (after uni) I'll hopefully get that MX-5 I want. Insurance on that will be £700-ish at 21
I'm currently halfway through my A2 exams, a bit scared as they're a one shot thing (hence the music I'm listening to right now- This Is It by Kenny Loggins).
Angry Angel: Glad you liked the freeze-frame. The accident happened so quickly, it was the only way I could think of showing the deformed tyre, smoke and the damage to the RB4.
Just my luck that the one time I decide to slipstream a bit closer instead of diving out for the overtake earlier, the guy in front brakes...
It's a balmy 26deg in my room NOW with the media centre PC on. Old Pentium 4 3GHz, Geforce 4 thing in a normal size tower. With a Hi Fi as well. Oh, if I was in the car where I have air con...
Same. My SMS credit goes down quickly as I'm not the only one that can't sleep.
General Lee, can I be cheeky and ask what your car insurance costs? My first car is a 51 plate Fiesta Zetec 1.25 and the insurance (third party) is just over £2000 in my name (year 1). I can't imagine how much a BMW would be to insure!
Seems like Fernando's in one of those 'bear with a sore head' moods this week. Last week Hamilton thought McLaren favoured Alonso and this week it's the other way round:
Here's my first 100% from scratch personal BF1 skin. It's not meant to be any specific F1 team, rather a generic team that wouldn't look out of place on an F1 grid. The colour scheme is slightly inspired by McLaren
It is a personal skin but if someone else wants to use it or put their name on the rear wing, that's great too
Attached are a preview montage, a 2048 skinfile and a white version skinfile. Comments good and bad are welcome!
