think i saw aquote somewhere that if they got the F1 conract they would be altering the published plans to turn the hairpin left onto the national straight into a sweeping bend

given they're moving the startline to before abbey it's a pity they cant smooth out that hairpin right which is the new T1 to give then a long fast run till the left onto the national straight and then the fast run down to brooklands. if there was a long run to the left then the hairpin design would be pretty good especially with another straight imediatley after. you could imagine someone making a pass into the hairpin and then the other can making a bid down the next straight

Quote from JCTK :but why they won't go to NZ...

seems like Kimi is now part of the ever growing Red Bull family, and will come back to F1 in 2011 in a Red Bull, and kick out Mark Webber in the process~

guess a lot will depend on how all three drivers get on this year, kimi does well in wrc then he may decide to stay there, if either webber or vettel dominate the other, there will be a vacancy, if they are very close over the season and the team feels they work well together then there won't be a vacancy

given that you can almost guarantee that one of the new teams will fold inside 2 years it's a pity they can't agree to 14 teams even if it means that 2 cars are eliminated in qualifying and don't make it into the race.

i haven't seen anything but if i had to guess i'd say it's williams who blocked it as their record towards any extra competition always seems at odds with their " we're racers first who love the sport" image that they try to project.

Quote from SilverArrows77 :Yep, and really the only way to get fastracked is to be very clean and safe.... so chances are even if they arent not a fast driver and they dont know cars/tracks well, they will be likely to keep out of everyones way and not cause chaos, thats how they got fastracked afterall... It surprises me that some people have an issue with fasttracking. ...And Celtic or English, us aussies wouldnt know... your all strange and foreign to us! :P lol

i think it's a modern equivilent of " we didn't have computer games when i was a lad, we managed quite well without them", because they had to race for 4 seasons they think everyone else should be made to.

re celtic or english, the celts include the guys who are playing you lot at rugby tomorrow and the ones that beat you last weekend, the english are the ones who've never shut up after beating you lot in the final

well today i came across my first fasttracked A licence holder. if this guy is an accurate example of fastrackers then all the doom sayers will be disappointed. he was obviously slow as he's only been an iracer for this season and had qualified as an A licence half an hour earlier so was attempting to learn watkins and the dallara from scratch. but he was safe and despite being an australian (just kidding) he was courteous, pleasent and polite. infact the only issue i had with him was him saying i was english despite celtic logos all over my wings and sidepods

Quote from Crommi :Something about Dallara Indycar seems to fit my driving style, grabbed another win! :woohoo:

well done (and you AlienT, can't leave a fellow celt out)

i really like the dallara and i'm finally getting my head round the setup, found 1.5 secs in just 5 laps yesterday after just 1 little change. i know i could (should ?) just find someone else's setup that suits me but i prefer to work the damm thing out for my self

Quote from mclarenmatt :When do the licences next upgrade?

not sure but i think fast track is now operative, if so then licences upgrade as soon as all requirements are met

right from the start i felt the ferrari engine / car business was a mistake purely on cost (both to purchase and because of the complexities to run). what really seemed obvious to me though was that A1 and superleague should have talked to each other, one is (was?) a winter series and one a shortish summer series, it doesn't take a genius to work out that they could have used the same cars for both to spread costs. add in the fact that by promoting the two together they could have offered tv companies an all year round race program comprising two series both of which concentrated on the teams rather than the drivers and they may just have been viable.

Quote from MR_B :Exactly, they're all magically forgotten his long term injury. Neck injuries don't magically heal fully a few weeks later!

The press/ Eddie Jordan has no memory.

of course it may be that when he anounced he was going to stand in for massa, the idea of the mercedes seat was put to him and it became convenient to have a reason not to be seen driving a ferrari F1 car or possibly there is a clause that he cannot drive for another team within so many years of last racing a ferrari to protect information etc so the neck was an "honourable" way of avoiding it, on the other hand his head may be about to fall off

i see it's not a very friendly seperation then with brawn / mercedes saying button can't do anything with mclaren till january 1st and how they had hoped for loyalty, that he's being paid less at mclaren than they offered and that he'll have to improve to match hamilton.

when you list the points, it starts to sound like a toys out of prams rant, no doubt button will give his side of it soon in reply. i'm not a button fan but if he was being offered more at brawn / mercedes then there has to be a bloody good reason why he felt more comfortable at mclaren alongside hamilton.

if i was being cynical i'd say it's because he no longer has barichello to help with development / setup but i suspect it's something more substantial than that.

i saw the other day that lotus announced that they have signed an experienced driver but won't release who yet as they'd like to anounce both drivers together. given that some of their senior personal are big trulli fans it looks like a safe bet it's him

not sure about the senna / prost thing, more likely the keke rosberg / prost scenario where as keke himself admitted he'd gone to mclaren believing he was the fastest driver in F1 and then prost beat him

Quote from JohnPenn :Got the impression from reading the forums that racing in rookie servers is frowned upon if you have a better 'license' which would be a shame if you really like the car/ track combo.

it's more a case that racing in rookie servers with a higher licence is frowned upon if you then spam the servers with complaints about how the rookies drive and how they've hurt your SR and how much easier it is for them to get it back than for a higher licence driver.

personally if you're a pro licence holder and want to race rookies then fine, just don't expect the whole field to be able to run the whole race without making a mistake, the name rookie should give people a clue

re dale, he appeared on pole for my first ever rookie race, never saw him after the first corner till he almost lapped me on last lap. he crops up fairly often in various practice sessions and he's always very pleasent and down to earth with a great sense of humour, i particuarly liked his suggestion to john henry that he should demote pat o'hara to a rookie with minus 100 SR after pat had taken out dale, john henry and tony george jnr in one accident in a mazda practice at milwakee

if you were to think about a watch manufacturer try breitling as they already are connected with aerobatic planes so it could give you a few more design hints to play with.

since this isn't a real world commision why not turn the whole project around and first design the car you want to design and then find a brand that fits it afterwards and tweak the design if needed.

on a less serious note how about LEGO

couldn't believe our local asda this morning, went there for 10 mins before opening and joined the line of people (ok it was a random standing about thing) doors open in we go, MOW2 are behind the cigs counter, they only had about 15 of each of the PS3 and Xbox versions !!!

i got the second to last xbox version for my son but it makes you wonder how serious they were about selling copies as opposed to just getting some publicity

tris you may find the default sets for the mazda are pants as with the new tyres and wings the cars feel has changed completely. trouble is with the season just starting there aren't a lot of new setups. i got my road america setup to feel better by following volker's sugestion on tyre preasures and was pleased to find im in the 2.06 - 07s with race fuel which isn't too bad considering i didn't run more than a few laps in it last season. check the mazda subforum for ideas etc. one advantage you have is that once you can get into a session with other drivers in same car they can send setups like in LFS now which is far better than the old way of either downloading them or reading them through on chat (can you imagine how long a dallara read through would take) also check out the english club and western europe forums, no idea what the english ones like (i'm a celt ) but the western one is helpfull though a bit quiet

also i never found that silverstone suited the car, feels kind of lost, try it on laguna or lime rock (just watch out for the bumps there ).

pity you hadn't joined before the season ended as you could have walked the MPR and got a class D after a couple of days, still fast track will sort that out for you when it's enabled. something else to look for is the participation bonus, compete for 8 weeks in an official series and you get $10 credit end of season.

going back to the forums, don't be surprised at the amount of bitching on the general forum, there's a hardcore of users who seem to think it's their right to have everything the way they want it and right now, no matter how it affects everyone else and that every problem they have with a car is down to the programers rather than their driving

a few years ago they were comparing shumachers telemetry to his team mates and the area where he gained time was the firs thalf of the bend, most F1 drivers seem to be able to find and drive to the limit on the corner exit but the real fast ones only slow to the limit on the corner entry consistently, most tend to miss the sweet spot and either slow a bit too much and then have to accelerate back to the limit or they carry a bit too much speed in and compramise their corner exit.

we have a similar effect here on anglesey, there's an action group called PAWB (People Against Wylfa B) who are against the building of a new nuclear power stationon the island, which is fair enough they've as much right to campaign against it as others have to try and get it built. what gets me is the strongest opponent of the new station locally, spent 25 years working in the old plant and was totally behind it until the moment he retired. i'm sure if they said his pension would be stopped if there was no nuclear plant on the island he'd soon be backing the calls to build a new one. also generally whenever there is the possibility of any new industry on the island there's always complaints about how it'll spoil the beauty of the place and inevitably most of the complaints are from people who are retired and / or moved to the island from big towns etc.

the next week the same people are complaining that the communities are dying and there are no local shops etc, could it have something to do with the fact that so many younger people have to move away to find work ?

i'm waiting now for the howls from the silverstone fans when they realise that silverstone is talking in autosport of having the track altered between club and brooklands with the removal of bridge and priory and abbey becoming a right hander instead of the current left - right. pretty similar to their proposed moto gp layout except for the changing of the arrow head into a long lefthander
