I love the fact that all (Or at least most :P ) of us get along great even though we're thousands of miles away from each other.
If this board wasn't english I probably wouldn't have bought this game because buying an online game that has a community that speaks a language different to I would just be too hard. :/
Yea yea, typical American, I know.
Just FYI though, I respect all of you guys just as if I've known you all my life, I'm just that kind of warm hearted e-guy. :P
My LCD can only go to 1280x1024 so I'm not really complaining about anything, besides, anything smaller than that and I wouldn't be able to do my work properly (Well, that's probably not true, but.. whatever)
I use my computer mainly for yearbook (I'm in charge of the school band yearbook) video editing (Home movies and the like for my family) and lastly gaming... So I just wanted something that had a lot of horse power and would be able to keep up with RAW image editing and pretty advanced games.
Can you PM me how to flash my old x800GTO? I've always wondered how to open up those extra pixel piplines but I just gave up and switched over the NVidia. While I know the 8800GTX is leaps and bounds over the x800 I still loved that card but really wished it could push out a little more power for the money 2 years ago. That'd be great if I could flash my old card.
Honestly, I like STCC, even though it isn't all that fun getting rammed into over and over again I like the challenge of racing cars that are really slow. You have to really drive well and it's not all about the setup when you're dealing with cars that have so little HP. (At least that's my experience)
One of the things that I've noticed though, as SamH disregarded up above, was that my points seem to disappear. I used to have a 1% progression or something like that, but the next time I went back in I had gone back to 0%.. I know this must have been a glitch but it really made me not want to go back and race again if everything that I'd raced for was gone.
Another thing, directed towards SamH, I really think that the Copper license is a little too hard to get. When there are 13 people in the race and I placed 6th or something along the lines of that, I received no points at all. I don't know exactly how the points system works but having the fight for a 6th position is actually quite hard in the UF1. (Yes, laugh if you'd like but I just have a bit of a problem with that car for some reason)
I have a brand new computer (2 weeks old) so perhaps I shouldn't be talking about whether or not I'd be able to handle a graphics update.
I run LFS with the LOD at the new default #, 1280x1024, AA x16 (? or 8, whichever is highest) and never get below 90 FPS... I've got a E6300 1.83 GH/z C2D, 8800 GTX NVidia card and 2GB of DDR2 PC2 4200 RAM.. So.. I'm pretty much set on graphics for the next couple of years actually...
I think that a graphics setting would be great though, that would definitely help my poor old laptop that hardly runs LFS (Poor thing has a 900 mh/z Pentium 3 in it) run it a lot easier. I can't say this and back it up with facts but wouldn't allowing graphical settings to be changed take quite a chunk of code to do? Or could you just lower the pixel count/planes (Thats what I think they're called right? The triangles where colors are drawn) that are displayed on the screen... So confused.
For those people who can hardly run LFS, why don't you just lower the resolution that you run LFS at? If you lower your game all the way to 800x600 or even 640x480 I bet you could squeeze a couple more frames per second out of your machines, right?
Uhh, that's kinda morbid.. but I suppose that's what I agree too.
LFS is just too.. I dunno special to see it sell out and become like all of the other games that have sold their engines for some money. While I'm sure many developers would love to get their hands on the engine because it's so good as a customer/consumer I would like to see this game just be in the hands of the original LFS developers.
I currently reside in Pleasanton, CA... I'd be willing to show up to a meet... we should probably bring our computers and/or meet at someones house and have a LAN race.
No, I'm not 14, in fact I'm 18.. (I'm not saying that I'm any more mature than a 14 year old but I'm just putting it out there that I'm 'legal' )
IMO, contact is fine as long as it doesn't do any damage to the other person's wheels and affect their driving.
Even when there is contact it should be accidental and not purposely, think about it, if you had your car on a track, would you want people rubbing against your car?
At first I thought that you were being sarcastic and was just making a joke.. Then I read the edit.
Ohh man, how could you not get that bit of sarcasm from Victor? He was obviously (Well, not really if you didn't get it) talking about the LFS game/community.
Perhaps you're overclocking the video card or the CPU? If you're doing either of those perhaps you should try setting the clock back to 0% to see if you get any more system stability.
I used to run my X800 at 10% Overclock on bus speed and memory and then 20% on my P4 2.6 chip, but had to lower both because my system would often become unstable.
Woah woah woah! There's high res skins out there? Where can I sign up and put my new 8800GTX to the test?
I second that. Here in the US when I want to play there is usually no one online. That's why I'm glad I'm an insomniac so that way I can stay up until like 4AM when everyone comes back online.
I don't have the time (Or the computer for that matter, but that's a whole other story ) to watch the demo's but as soon as I get a computer that's running I'll be sure to check them out.
One tip I'd like to give is that you should just go out and shell the 24 pounds for the licensed game and then go get a steering wheel. I've found that my sliding with my sidewinder wheel is a lot of fun with the FF off (It's a little harder with FF on because the wheel is really... jerky? :P )
I really can't comment on your driving but I know that you'd have more precision with a mouse than with the keyboard for racing..
Also: What's with the people flaming drifters? This game was designed for RACING no matter what way anyone chooses to do it. Drifting is fun, and so is gripping they're just two different styles of racing. Although I do have to say that gripping is much quicker on courses that have any straights in them at all. Drifting is really only effective on courses that have constant and sharp turns.
I do have to agree with you though, the automatic driving aid is just fine.. My one armed friend can play LFS just great with the mouse and doesn't complain about the shifting at all.
(Yes, I really do have a friend with one arm, and yes, he is actually ok at LFS :P)
I just recently bought my copy and picked up a Microsoft Sidewinder wheel with FF and... well, I haven't used my computer for anything other than AIM since I bought it.
LFS sucked up all my free time and even managed me to choose racing the FOX over my Honda CRX sitting in my driveway.
I dunno, exchange rates are getting worse, so it'd probably be better if you did buy it now rather than later because they're not going to get any better...
