Quote from Papa :I do understand that there are more suitable cars for rallyecross and maybe also for oval racing, drifting or cruising than the given selection and I wouldn't mind if Scawen offered cars for every purpose, but for some close (tarmac) racing action between non-alien spare time drivers a RWD super touring car is missing the most.

I couldnt agree more.

Another point is, that I simply dont understand why it wasnt always part of the LFS package. Especially since Touring Car Racing has such a huge heritage in the UK and all over Europe.

Quote from McGherkin :What, more than a proper race prepared rally car for the rallycross tracks? To me, that's the most obvious. To someone else, it could be something else which is missing.

What would that be? A proper rallye cross car?

I did some more intensive googleing.

Suppose I will use any domain, like lfs.domain.de and set the DNS to my dedicated hosts IPv6. Would that work? Or would LFS not be able to resolve that DNS since its IPv6?

And, what would LFS report to the Master-Server? An IPv4 or could I let it report somehow the lfs.domain.de?

I feel like my thread is being hijacked

Arent there enough threads and discussions about Westhill update being "delayed"? Actually, nothing is delayed since there was no actual release date

Please lets keep this one thread positive and about what it was suppose to be about in the first place. Those great tracks we have.

Quote from [RCG]Boosted :got a slight problem as well.
the leds get connected, but the always blink...no matter if im in a menu or if im in a car...what could be the cause?

Are you sure you are editing the correct cfg.txt and that LFS can read the file? I had issues as well, because I wasnt used to setting up LFS under anything newer then Windows XP.
LFS dedicated host with ipv6?

Hello,

I tried since a couple of days to setup a dedicated host. Unfortunately I realized today that port forwarding is not working because my ISP uses DS Lite (Dual Stack Lite).

Basically I dont have an ipv4 IP in the web.

Is there any way I can setup the host with ipv6 or is it simply not possible?

Thanks,
Steffen

Quote from 5tag :That is another problem with this class, they don't necessarily have to be hatchbacks. UFR and XFR have rather high centers of gravity. The way tracks like Blackwood, Fern Bay or even Aston are designed force you to exploit curb cutting to be among the fastest, but that also means you will flick the car over in many occasions. I also think it's got something to do with the way suspensions and diff slip/lock are set up with FWD cars.

Lots of valid points from you 5tag, I could not have argued better: Low CoG, Slicks (not too wide), sedan dimensions. This would be perfect.

And again, we had looots of fun. First some LX6 crazyness on Westhill, then some XRT sliding on Kyoto National and last but not least some races in the XFR on Kyoto National.

Lots of fun. I realized again whats missing in LFS: https://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=86265

Regards, see you on the track guys!
RWD Touringcar (With not too much HP)

Hi there,

it has probably been suggested a million times but I still want to take the chance and make a case.

Probably the closes racing you see in real life are the likes of WTCC, BTCC etc. BMW 320is etc.

The closest you can get in LFS is the XFR and its so much fun. It also delivers probably the closest races you can get including some fun. In my point of view its because it has all the advantages of a touring car like slicks, supsension, track, sequential gearbox etc. Unfortunately its FWD. I would love, simply love if there would be RWD competitor for the XFR.

A very direct and responsive kind of car.

Alternatively there could be a new class, with up to 280-300HP. But not more, above that, things get too powerful and close racing gets harder/more dangerous.

LFS would profit so much by this. There never was and so far there is no great Toruing Car Simulation out there...

Please!

Quote from MoMo92i :I really missed an initiative made by genR few years ago. That was a daily race event and that was a lot of fun. That could be an initiative to fix a time daily to race and have fun together.

Yes, that definitely sounds interesting. Important is though, that the races are kept casual. 5-10 rounds, simple fun.

Quote from Vain :Good initiative, but I guess most people prefer driving on a schedule these days.

Back in ~2004 people who signed up were mostly students I suppose. So these days they'll likely have many more obligations than they used to. Personally I've arranged for tuesdays and thursdays to be LFS-days (even though that is going to fall flat tomorrow ). I guess that's just one of the realities an aging userbase brings with it.

I agree. Same situation here. But exactly because of that I sometimes find some hours here and there, like today. Not really plan-able

But this was huge fun today! Great racing on BL1 with XFR and UFR. Actually some of the best fights and chats I had in years with LFS.

Thanks guys. I will anounce here again, when we open up the host
Good old pick and race action

Hi there,

like others, I also noticed that there is almost no proper immediate pick and race action going on lately (besides demo world).

Therefore I opened this thread for people to be able to post their server, maybe one or another might start-up LFS and join the fun.

I am providing a host with some XFR fun today. I still feel XFR gives one of the best close and fun racing action.

Who is in?

I dont believe this. But like I said, LFS seemed to ignore my cfg.txt alltogether. Now I figured it out. It didnt just seem like that, it really ignored it. Because I edited the whole time the cfg.txt in the LFS directory.

In Windows 8.1 that file is completely unimportant though. The actual interesting file is located at:

C:\Users\(Username)\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\LFS

Guess I am an oldschool fella... who lived the last years on a mac

Thanks a lot for your help and the great tool. Works like a charm now

I am getting frustrated. Somehow it seems like LFS is simply ignoring/not reading my cfg.txt. No matter what I set there, it seems to be ignored.

I am on Windows 8.1, anybody has an idea?

Quote from Vain :Hello everyone.

With the recent announcements about the Westhill update my interest in LFS has picked up again. Last week, after 6 years of not playing LFS, I finally got my old G25 from the basement and plugged it in. If any of you readers are thinking about doing the same, here's my verdict:

It's awesome.

Somehow over the years I completely forgot that LFS is still 99% distilled fun. I got back into it within hours and am enjoying myself a lot. I signed up for the Torsdagsrace and had loads of fun at the event.

So again, if any of your are thinking about going back online, do it. It's the same fun it ever was.
Share your story if you decide(d) to come back, too.

Vain

Did the same 3 weeks ago. Its a blast. Unfortunately there was no G25 in the basement anymore so I had to get the G27

Quote from Bob Smith :Somebody should get Vic to post in this thread. All 3 devs talking in one thread must be a record, so then I have an excuse to eat copious amounts of cake.

Haha, Bob right! How can we get him?

Victor, how is life?

Ok that was probably to random.

Haleluja. So funny, I have to share this: I just sit here coming back to this thread after a day out and my wife asks me after a couple of minutes: Why you have that smile on your face? I had to explain her about the past ten years in regards of LFS, Scawen, Eric, Victor etc. We only know each other since 5 years, so basically the time off LFS. I had to make her understand that Eric is not the kind of forum guy So yes I am a little proud that 3 of Erics 7 posts on this forum are in this thread. That made me smile.

And then this. Really? You couldnt resist right? This little small comment (visceral tyre feel) just made be anxious about whats coming up in the next months like a littel kid before christmas.

Quote from Eric :
As a side note, I have no idea how the revised Westhill will drive with the old tyre physics that you guys are using. I’ve been testing with the new tyre physics for a few years now and I refuse to drive the old one, which has just doesn’t have that visceral tyre feel and response compared to the new tyre physics.

Therefore, again, thanks guys. I got reunited with some friends from university during the last days just because we decided to race LFS again like in the old days. And all this for 24 GBP I payed such a long time ago, one of the best investments ever.
