Andy, in theory that's an awesome idea! I haven't thought about using qualifying to time the cars... hmm. I won't be home this weekend, but as soon as I get back on Sunday night I'll root around and see how well it works.
I'm giving everyone plenty of advance notice this time.
When?
Saturday, Dec. 2nd @ 12:00pm EST (GMT -5)
Sunday, Dec. 3rd @ 12:00pm EST (GMT -5)
Where?
The offical SimRS server.
How?
I'll have the website up shortly (in the next few days I hope) for everyone to check out and get the skinny on what stage rallying on LFS will be like. In the mean time, you can check out this thread for some details.
Please send any advance entries to [email protected]or PM me here on the forums with the following information:
Real Name (Not required if your shy, but I'd prefer to have it for statistical purposes) Player Name Car you plan on competing with Team (if applicable)
I'd prefer to get advance entries as opposed to people showing up at the last minute, so I have a decent idea of whether I'll have a full (10 car) field or not.
The first event was a success! Congratulations to [HR] Craig IRL, the winner of the first ever SimRS stage rally!
Overall the event went smoother than I expected. We had a few issues that need ironing out, but nothing serious. The event took a lot longer than I was expecting (almost 3 hours), so I'll be shortening them up quite a bit from here on. SS7 was cancelled due to time constraints. Everyone had fun (as far as I know) and the rally was very competitive!
A huge thanks for those who showed up and took part, you guys were great!
Stages:
SS1 - Aston Historic Reversed
SS2 - South City Sprint Track 1 Reversed
SS3 - Westhill International Reversed
SS4 - Fern Bay Rallycross Reversed
SS5 - Blackwood Reversed
SS6 - Kyoto Ring GP Long
SS7 - (Cancelled) Aston North
SS8 - Blackwood Rallycross Reversed
My priceless moment was a 'payback' during my demo days. I had this guy who kept brake-checking me when I'd draft him on the long straight at Blackwood. Eventually I got around him in the first sector, and he proceeded to crawl up my ass. I stomped the brakes, he slammed into me and spun out. Sure it was dirty.. but he had it coming.
Where? The offical SimRS LFS server. "[SimRS] Rally Sport"
What is a stage rally? A stage rally is a contest of speed where drivers take on the clock instead of each other. Drivers compete in a series of "stages", which are timed, solo, point-to-point sprints. Drivers need to be quick on a variety of different courses to come out victorious! You win by completing every stage, and having the lowest overall time.
Please read the SimRS competition guide prior to taking part, as it details exactly how the event will be run and the rules that need to be followed.
Come be a part of Live for Speed history tommorrow by taking part in this truely unique event! This event is limited to 10 entries, so get them in quick! You can send in entries via email or by catching me on AIM (Xenovitalis).
Well, no luck getting the competitor guide finished. I ran out of time. I shouldn't have a problem getting it done before the event tommorrow night however. Off to work I go...
I wish I could make it sooner, but my personal schedule is just too hectic right now. I might be able to do an earlier event on Sunday, I'll let you know.
Well, the tentative schedule for the first event will be Saturday (11/18) at 9pm EST (GMT-5). If we have time I might do more than one rally, I'll be using this to gauge the competitiveness of each car and if everything 'flows' properly.
Hopefully I'll have the rulebook and server setup completely by tommorrow afternoon. Keep an eye on this thread for any updates.
I'm currently working on a website to detail the various aspects of the series. I'm going to most likely work on running a few 'sanctioned' events, and getting some fellow organizers before beginning a championship.
Do yourself a favor and avoid "Lock On: Modern Air Combat". It's crap imho. Back when I played flight sims I was a big MS Flight Sim fan. I also liked an obscure WW2-era game called "Warbirds". I can't imagine MS Combat Flight Sim being too bad, although I've never played it.
Cool, glad to see that there's some interest. I'll set up some rules this week and might have an exibition event next weekend to get things running smoothly.
Feel free to comment on any ideas/rules you'd like to see.
So far, I had in mind:
Pre-Event
- The event organizer determines a SECRET stage line-up. The stages used must be kept a secret to prevent competitors from obtaining a competitve advantage by practicing the stages prior to the event.
- For the same reason, event organizers are not permitted to participate in their own events (unless, of course, the event is just for fun..).
- Event organizer starts a game with these parameters: No Qualifying, 1 Lap Race, Auto Park (or other suitable place for a 'parc expose').
Event Start
- All drivers/cars meet @ Car Park (or other suitable location) for the 'parc expose'.
- The event organizer 'seeds' each competitor (determines their starting order). Event rules are also explained to new competitors.
- Competitors are given time to select their cars, change setup parameters, and make any other preparations.
First Stage
- The event organizer begins the event by changing the track to the first competitive stage.
- ALL COMPETITORS MUST SPECTATE! No competitors will be allowed to 'practice' or be on the track at the same time as other competitors.
- The first competitor joins the race.
- The event organizer resets the race, and the competitor runs his stage.
- The event organizer records the competitors' stage time, asks the competitor to spectate, and authorizes the next competitor to join.
- Repeat until all competitors have run the stage.
Between Stages
- After all competitors have run a stage, the event organizer will change the track to the next competitive stage.
- Competitors will be given time to tweak any setup they're using, change tires, etc between stages.
- The next stages operate in the same manner as the first. Remember that ALL DRIVERS MUST SPECTATE UNTIL THEY'RE AUTHORIZED TO JOIN BY THE EVENT ORGANIZER!
After Event
- Any penalties are announced by the event organizer, and competitors are given the opportunity to challenge any penalties assessed.
- All stage times (and penalties) are added up and the winner is formally announced.
- Celebrate, complain, make excuses for poor performance, etc!
Penalties
- Joining the track during another competitors' run.
- Not spectating in a timely manner at the stage start, or after completing a stage run.
DNFs
- If your car becomes immobile at any point in your stage run (flipped over, sand trapped, hit a barrier and went into orbit, etc) you will be listed as a DNF.
- You may participate in later stages, but will be listed as 'DNF' in the final standings.
I'd like to see comments for or against some of the rules listed... let me know what you think!
