Striker Saves Penalty Shot
Ok some of you may have seen this but its amazing. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=_dd4KKav6Qk&NR=1 Mladen Petric which is a striker for FC Basel has to save a penalty Shot as Basel's Goalie Costanzo is kicked out of the game. Its happend before to other teams but the only other one i know of the guy that had to play goalie new were the player was going to shoot and Petric here didn't know at all it was just pure luck and skill but mostly luck.

:clapclap:

Awesome

What language was that btw? It's not French, and didn't sound like German...
May very well be Spanish, Italian or Portuguese. Could even be Polish, Romanian, Estonian or Cheque-o-slovakia (not even going to attempt to spell that correctly..)

There are more countries in Europe than France and Germany.

(I guessed those cos FC Nancy is French and FC Basel is [German?] swiss :tilt

It's not spanish - I think it's polish judging by the video's author page.

EDIT: Czechoslovakia
Was a very flukey/amazing save tho.
How was it fluke? He went the right way, height, and saved it. It's not like he dived the wrong way and the ball hit off his feet.

It was more a bad penalty.
I'm not a football fan in the slightest (quite the opposite), but that was a damn good save by a non-goalie!

It happens alot. I don't even watch football and know that.
Good stuff!

yes that was against Nancy back in 2006, but the language isn't french in that clip, sounds more like croatian/russian/something.
Chances are he goes in goals for practice/fun games during training, also it was a piss poor penalty. Easy height, not far away from the makeshift goalie, even I in my bloated shaped would have got down in time to save it (I was a goalie and did have trials when young, so i would have been confident in going the correct way also)

Also it was a weak sending off by the goalie, if you going to get sent off do it in style. Who knows, you might avoid the red card

Mackie The Staggie does not recommend nailing opposition player in such a manner, doing so is against the ethos of FIFA's fair play campaign, and also you're likely to receive the same (if not worse) back.
And on another day the assistant ref says that it should be retaken because the goal keeper is about 2 yards off his line when the ball is kicked. Good save, though

A country that hasn´t existed for over 15 years...
On the subject of goalies : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v ... UqRpg&feature=related

I can't help noticing that modern footballing is about how many cars you have, and how many hours you spent modelling your hair than actually playing - They trip over their own shoe-laces and claim it foul play!

And it's one of the reasons why I hold little or no interest in the top leagues in England (I would say also Scotland.....but I think we don't need that debate also). For me true football is seen in the lower leagues were the players ain't earning £10,000+ a week and play because of the love of football.
Yup, many local team champsionships often provide some of the best actual football, if not the best stadium and news coverage.
Penalty should have been retaken as he clearly was at least a foot off the goal line.

Looking at the body shape of the player, the way he runs up is the best way to save a penalty.

The main reason he saved it though is that he didn't go either way until the ball was kicked, this is one thing that pisses me off when watching a goalie try to save a penalty - the amount of times players put the ball down the middle of just off centre when the goalie has dived the other way instead of waiting is unbelievable.

Yes if it's top corner or right in the bottom corner then you probably won't save it unless you guess correctly and dive before the ball is kicked, and if you dive the wrong way you definitely won't save it so it's always best to wait.

Says someone who hasnt played in goals for a couple of years :P

Show me a penalty when the goalie hasn't been at least a foot off the goal line!!
Quote from swisscosmo :Mladen Petric

I'm surprised that no English football fan has gone mad at seeing that name, because he was the Croatian striker who scored the goal that knocked England out of qualifying for Euro 2008.
Or maybe I'm taking it too far. I dunno.

Peter Shilton would wait until he saw were the ball was going before diving, he wasn't the best at penalty's and as such had a poor record in penalties (ask any England fan at Italy 90 )

As a goalie there was always a couple of things I could/would do to gain the upper advantage in penalty shootouts.
  1. Stand off center so leaving a bigger gap in one side for the player to aim at.
  2. Look at the eyes of the player, were he last looked is most likely the direction he is going (depending upon level of player, this may not work)
  3. Shout "I had you're mother last night" just before he hits it. note: only to be attempted if you feel you would win in a fight against said penalty taker.

Yep, it's the same guy, with Eduardo out, he was the starting striker for Croatia at the Eurocup. I remember this, it was a UEFA cup match. He plays for HSV now, not badly too, has 7 goals this season: http://www.bundesliga.de/en/liga/torjaeger/index.php

I also wonder about the language in the clip, it's not Russian, and most definitely not Croatian... But it is some Eastern European though.
